“Terrific place to relax - a hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2009

We stayed in Can Carbo for 3 nights for a long weekend away at the end of March. It was a wonderful and peaceful experience staying in this beautifully restored masia just outside Peralada. It is in the countryside but close to Peralada and other small villages for getting to restaurants and bars. The location, ambience and decoration are first rate. Our room was very comfortable with an enormous bed, a roomy shower, a cosy sitting area to chill out and a terrace to sit out in with long views towards Peralada. Can Carbo has been restored with great attention to detail and the room was tastefully decorated to show off the architectural detail. There was plenty of opportunity in the grounds to sit outside amongst well kept plants and shrubs adding to the overall experience. The host, Michael made us feel very welcome and there was plenty of choice for breakfast each day. It certainly lived up to its promise of being home from home.

A beautifully restored masia just a few minutes from Peralada. Spacious and tastefully decorated rooms. Michael was an excellent host with ready recommendations for dining nearby and places to visit. Would be more than happy to repeat the stay.

  • Liked — Friendly host, wifi, English satellite TV, spacious well-eqipped room, decor
  • Disliked — Nearby pig farm doesn't smell so nice sometimes.

This is a very relaxing and comfortable place to stay. It has an excellent ambience, high quality rooms and the service is above average. I wnet for a long weekend at the end of November and enjoyed every minute of my stay.
The hotel is situated in the countryside not far from the coast and is very peaceful. The owner is very welcoming and makes each guest feel personally welcome. The buildings have been tastefully restored with great attention to detail and are beautifully furnished. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to those seeking a restful and peaceful holiday in a very special place. The rooms are also exceptional value- go quickly before this place is discovered. It's a real gem.

We stayed in Can Carbo while we were exploring the Catalan coast above Barcelona. It was a really good deal considering the standard of the hotel and rooms - it's a very (very) tastefully restored traditional stone farmhouse with the guestrooms in converted outbuildings set around a couple of courtyards. The rooms have massive beds and walk-in showers; and the courtyards are beautifully planted and lovely for drinking cava in.
Michael the owner does a mean breakfast and made us feel very welcome.

We spent a weekend in the Alt Emporda discovering the new wines of the region. Can Carbo was very tranquil and a perfect place to stay. The hotel is a tastefully renovated stone farmhouse. The owner Michael was lovely, and the rooms very special, comfortable and well presented. The hotel is 2 minutes from the beautiful town of Perelada - and 15 mins from Figueres - where there is the Dali museum.
