“Charming hotel, but somewhat impractical”

Schlosshotel Kronberg

Stayed at the hotel recently while attending a conference.

Pluses
(1) Charming historical building set in beautiful grounds (golf course / parkland)
(2) Nearby village is similarly pretty and a nice contrast from modern downtown Frankfurt

Minuses
(1) Room and hotel public areas did not have air-conditioning. Not an issue during this stay, but may be a problem on a hot summer's day
(2) Single room was on the small side, but had nice views
(3) No gym or pool on-site
(4) Staff were nice and friendly but had some issues (e.g. understanding English; fax was not sent)
(5) Location would be a bit inconvenient for going to / from meetings in Frankfurt

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April as I was attending a conference in the same hotel. This hotel will make an excellent first impression on arrival as its turrets, tudor design and castellate features give it a fairytale feel. The lobby and corridors are lavishly furnished full of antiques and paintings adding to the atmosphere.

Staff on reception were very friendly and efficient (and there seems to be lots of staff always on hand) although the door staff were perhaps a little too eager to help you with your luggage - don't dare think you can park your car out front without having the lads descend on your vehicle!! Also I'd prefer if house-keeping staff didn't call to the rooms unnanounced in the afternoon - not everyone remembers to hang the 'do not disturb' sign on the door.

Food was fantastic throughout the stay with an excellent meal one evening and fabulous breakfasts each morning in the beautiful dining room overlooking the on-site golf course.

The rooms were large and appear to be different to each other given the shape of the building. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had nice views over the turrets and other features. While we could open windows on both sides to keep the room cool I'm not sure if the lack of airconditioning combined with a room on the top floor would be a bit too hot in high summer - perhaps the thick walls and window shutters would prevent this.

The hotel is a bit on the pricey side regarding food but the room rate itself was better than I expected and below what many city hotels would charge. The bar prices are also expensive even for a hotel but Jimmy's bar was very cosy and there was a pianist playing every night. I got the impression those frequenting this bar wouldn't be too concerned with prices.

As regards location, the hotel is within walking distance of the centre of Kronberg from which a train can be got (hourly) to Frankfurt. Its an easy run to the airport in a hire car via the ring road also.

All in all a charming experience.

We stayed at the Schlosshotel for Christmas and for the first night of our honeymoon. We were there for 2 nights and had a fantastic stay. Our room was very impressive, with antique furniture, a marble bathroom and its own sitting room with fireplace and sofas. The entrance hall to the hotel was equally stunning, with a huge Christmas tree smoothered in white fairy lights, next to an impressive roaring fire. All in all, as you've probably gathered, I couldn't recommend it more highly!

This was by far our favorite accomodation on our recent trip to Germany and Austria. The hotel is so beautiful! Our room was large and had amazing views of the property! The bathroom was also large and well equipped. The champagne breakfast in the morning is also something to not miss! Loved this hotel!!

After browsing through the internet for great hotels, I had stumbled across this beautiful Castle hotel's website. Couldn't believe that such a great Castle hotel was so accessible, merely 25 minutes from the Frankfurt airport (40 euros by taxi). Therefore, among all the European cities, I had specially chosen to stop over in Frankfurt, during a pre-Budapest 5 day trip.

I had booked a special Deluxe room (number 121) based on the website's pictures. Martin, the Reservations manager couldn't confirm by email if I could get that particular room on 21 June. So, I just kept my fingers crossed and hoped for the best during a long 16 hours flight.

Upon arrival, feeling tired and jet-lagged, Martin was at the reception while I was checking in. To my amazement, he had actually reserved that special room for me ... many thanks, Martin! Though it was only a one-night stay, I would say that the stay was a very memorable one indeed.

Room wise, it was really huge, other hotels could easily classify it as a Junior suite or something. It's grand, too, with stucco ceilings, fire place, tall windows, curtain with drapes, antique looking furnitures, unique China porcelain wares, oil paintings,
free minibar drinks, fruit platter etc etc.

About a leisurely 15 minutes walk away, you can find the little town of Kronberg, where you will see a medium sized supermarket, various shops and restaurants. But it seems that most shops close rather early, with the exception of restaurants which are open for dinners. As we were too tired to walk, we took a cab there but strolled back to the Castle Hotel, enjoying the houses and the Victoria Park along the way.

The next morning, we explored the Castle grounds with its golf courses (with green carpet grasses and slow flowing streams). Squirrels, cats, rabbits could be seen running all over the large private estate. Be sure to check out its Rose Garden with its wide variety of roses, planted in tiers. There is even a grape vine overhanging walkway! During the walk, we didn't see anyone else, and felt like we owned the whole estate! The feeling was truly magical, more so in the cooling morning air.

The only thing I dislike was, even at 380 euros for a weekday stay, breakfast was additional at 21 euros per person. Since we are not breakfast people, and are watching our weight, we did not dine at the Hotel. But, I took whatever limited time I had to explore almost all floors of the Castle Hotel - the corridors with its wide range of paintings and maps, cabinets with historical objects, antique furnitures, nice carpets, chandeliers of all kinds , lobby with a huge fire place etc etc.

I normally would not attach pictures of the hotels I had stayed in, but this one is an exception - I felt like I owe it to Martin and the Castle Hotel, to do something in return for letting me having that special room, number 121.

Many thanks again, Martin. I really appreciate that kind gesture!
