“A Little gem at the side of the road....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

We arrived at the Park Broom at about 2ish on Sunday to a warm welcome and were told we could get our room then rather than the booking.com advised time of 4pm. We were given directions to the villages we were looking for for some family history research and then went away for a couple of hrs. Dinner was at 7 and was absolutely fantastic. My partner ordered the whole trout which was cooked to perfection, the fish just fell off the bone and I had ordered the salmon, smoked salmon and king prawn salad. It was lovely. Don't be scared by the prices either, for the sizes of the portions the price is quite justified.
We were staying in a double room which, when we arrived was quite stunning. With old oak furniture and a solid oak bed, we were amazed at the quality for the price we paid. We slept like babies, even with the main road being right next to us, the noise was minimal.
Breakfast this morning was exquisite. A Full cooked breaskfast with oodles of toast, tea, coffee, fruit, yoghurt and cereal and my little surprise....smoked salmon eggs benedict. It was so nice, i wanted seconds but again, the portions are big so you probably couldnt eat much more.
We would definetly recommend it to anyone and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: book direct with them we were told, as if you have stayed previously they would be able to give you...

We could not be more impressed with this place. The room was very well appointed, included hot chocolate with the complimentary tea and coffee (as a non tea/coffee drinker this is such a treat for me!) and the ensuite not only had a large shower but also a bath tub. The staff and owners were very friendly and had our meals - which were sensational - ready at the drop of a hat. An extra special touch was the camera they had installed in a near by birds nest and we watched a mother bird caring for her nest while we ate.

Room Tip: We stayed in room #6.

This was our first trip to the North-West and were very impressed with the welcome, excellent food and very helpful service. Room was very comfortable and we would stay again should we visit Carlisle. Cannot recommend more highly especially the food, be careful and watch your waistline !!!!!!

Room Tip: Try and stay in Room 1.

Super overnight stay while on Hadrian's Wall walk. Attentive, friendly, welcome, comfortable, spacious rooms and a chef using quality ingredients that make the difference in a B&B - fresh loaves, great breakfasts and an inventive and well-executed menu for dinner. Dog-owners can't expect their dogs to be allowed to sit next to them in formal, public dining rooms, as if they were at home, so leaving them in your own room while you eat is both offered and seems very fair.

We found Park Broom Lodge to be one of the most welcoming places to stay with our dog.
She was allowed to sit with us in the comfortable lounge both before and after supper. Of course she stayed in our car whilst we ate as is normal in restaurants.
Kath and Brad were extreemely welcoming, we arrived early wanting to drop our luggage off before walking, they quickly got our room ready to accomodate us.
Our room was very good with an extreemely comfortable bed, lots of space and a beautiful large bathroom.
We had supper which was excellant, huge portions and really good home cooked food; breakfast was just as good.
We would certainly recommend Park broome Lodge as a welcoming, comfortable, good value, dog friendly place to stay.Thank you Kath and Brad.

We came down from Glasgow and were only able to get to Carlisle at 11pm, but the owner was kind enough to wait for us and check us in at this late hour. Breakfast was very tasty and we had a good night sleep.

We booked for a two night break ,with dinner, after checking they were dog friendly with the owner. On the first morning we were asked to leave the restaurant or lock the dog in the car at meal times, we chose to leave the hotel as we wouldn't leave the dog locked in the car. We had to go and find somewhere else to have breakfast, very disappointed as we had checked beforehand. Better places to stay in Carlisle than park broom lodge as it needs a total overhaul. No discount offered and no contact from the owner afterwards

I am very sorry you were unhappy with your short stay here.We have a great many visitors who bring their dogs with them, but we also have even more guests who don't .For the sake of the majority of these guests we have a rule that dogs are allowed anywhere on the premises except the dining room. This has never been a problem before and I did my best to try to suggest alternatives such as leaving your dog in the room or putting him in the car( not locking him in it) I even came up to offer you breakfast in your room if you would like.
On the condition of our building you expressed delight when I showed you into your room on arrival and said you were very happy when I asked if everything was alright for you.
Your choice was to leave without your breakfast I did my best to help but you were angry and were determined to leave ,you only paid for the night you stayed and were not charged for the very late cancellation ,why would you expect a further discount ?
I would urge any readers of this review to take a look at other reviews written by dog owners and make a balanced judgment. We love dogs and always make them welcome but not everyone wants them in an area where food is served so we have to respect the majority opinion.
