“Quality food almost guaranteed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Situated well back from the main road Restaurant Calagrana offers great views from its elevated position, in the summer months. With a large patio for eating al-fresco and a cosy indoor dining room the diners have a choice of atmosphere and ambiance. The menu is changed regularly and there is adequate choice to suit most tastes. We eat here quite often as the quality of the produce combined with Albi's cooking makes for an excellent meal. The staff are friendly and the service very good.

“Magical!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

I visited Calagrana on the word of many mouths from both Italian locals and many internationals in the area - I wouldn't ordinarily write reviews but feel it necessary to in response to some of the negative reviews about this establishment.
Calagrana is on an amazing location, one that takes your breath away, it has views that make just want to stay & never leave. The actual property is an old farmhouse which is full of rustic charm & a great ambiance. The evening we went, the place was fully booked and bustling with energy, we were lucky to have seats on the veranda. The owner and host Ely greeted us and immediately we felt her genuine warmth & we knew our party would be in good hands. In response to the negative comments about the unfriendly owners or staff - I can only say that I never experienced any such thing. It is very evident that the owners, Ely & chef Albi & daughter Sophia were above and beyond to make sure every customer were treated like old friends. Even on a busy night, we were taken care of without being rushed or forgotten.
There was an array of different nationalities that night and everyone was enjoying, exceptional food, exceptional service & an exceptional location. But i have to say it wouldn't have been a problem if everyone was British, I don't understand what the issue is. As an American with a French husband & dining with Spanish & Italian guests - it's safe to say we could be hard to please, but at Calagrana - it was faultless, it was magical & the warmth & hospitality of the owners will only make more special our memories of this wonderful place. I can only hope less people find it, so i can keep this treasure hidden!
If you do find it, I promise you won't be sorry!

“Top-notch food,but..p”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Difficult to find, so use Google Maps.
Filled with British expats, so English is the lingua franca.
Usually full, so reservations are a must.
Friendly service, but can be stretched when full.
Food quality is excellent but a bit on the pricy side. You're looking at about 45-50€ per head with wine.

“Delicious and stunning views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

What an amazing find, right up in the Umbrian hills! We wouldn't have found it but for the owner of our villa recommending it to us.
Such a beautiful setting; we saw the sun go down and the moon rise on the last night of our honeymoon in that area, before we moved down to Rome for a night.
The food was absolutely delicious and very local produce. The service was impeccable.
Only slightly strange and surreal thing was the amount of other British people who were there also eating. We hadn't spent much time in the company of other Brits, so it was a bit strange to see fellow countrymen, women and children! But it didn't detract from the experience.
Not a cheap restaurant, but you get what you pay for and this was definitely worth it!

“superb”

Cala Grana never ceases to delight. The cooking is superb - contemporary Italian with a twist. The food respects its traditional roots, but gives a fresh and delicious flavour . Staff are delightful. Chef Albi hugely talented.
