Went to Zoo Malacca last week during a short trip to malacca and was totally disappointed.
Upon arriving, there were no signs indicating the carpark zones and the carparks were In a dillibitating state. Pavements were broken, rusty railings, unkept vegetations and overgrown weeds and scrubs all over the place. The main buildings and shops outside the zoo were old and rundown and littered with litter and leaves. Fans and air con not working, the glass to view the animals are not wiped and full of dirt and fingerprints, mosses and scrubs overgrown everywhere. It was not a pleasant sight and very bad impression to malacca as a UNESCO heritage site.
The trails in the zoo were terrible, as mentioned before the pavements were broken, the animal enclosures were dirty and unclean. The railings, doors to smaller enclosure were dirty and rusty and old. It was really a huge disappointment as compared to other lesser well known zoo I had been to like indonesia, Thailand and china. Even though the variety of animals are many, the management have a lot of work to do to improve the environment, be it the surroundings, the pedestrian walkways, the beautification of the zoo and the upkeep of the animals and their enclosures. Everything is old and disorganized, unsafe for children's especially the railings and the pavements. It looked as if the people cannot be bothered with the upkeep and maintain a standard for the zoo.
This was the worst zoo I have ever been to and incomparable to Singapore zoo and many other zoo in other developing countries. As a Malaysian I was hugely disappointed and ashamed this is coming from Malaysia standard. I believe zoo Melaka can do better than that!
