We stayed here over Christmas for 2 weeks, myself and partner and arrived on Christmas day.
We stayed on the club side, which is where you will stay if you have chosen the all inclusive package. The hotel is a good 3/4 star, family, friendly relaxing hotel, with lovely staff.
Arrival - check in was quick and easy, drinks and refreshing towels on arrival. You will be offered a safe which is 100 schillings a day about 75p, which you do have to pay for up front and 100 schillings deposit which you get refunded at the end of your stay.
Bedrooms - yes the decor is a little dated but they are spotlessly clean, air con great, beds comfy with mosquito nets. Bathrooms fine, loads of hot water and a washing line over the bath. They have a small lounge area and a balcony. We don't go on holiday to watch TV so only put it on a couple of times to catch up with what was going on in the outside world, and they have BBC world news. You will also be given a couple of small bottles of water every day and there are tea & coffee making facilities in the room. There is a small dressing room area with hair dryer (which was good), and plenty of plug sockets.
Food & Drink - now we aren't the best at getting up in the morning so we only made it to breakfast once! which was OK - plenty of the usual selection with a pancake and egg station. Lunch and dinner in the restaurant were buffets, which considering we were there for 2 weeks, we didn't really get bored of - there was only 1 evening which we both thought was a bit poor (BBQ Evening) but apart from that great. They have different themed evenings, like Italian, Indonesian etc etc There is also a snack bar by the 'busy' pool which has snacks from 10:00 - 18:00 which serves freshly cooked food, so you do have to wait a little bit, but everything we had there was nice. They have a menu that you can select from on the all inclusive or they do have a main menu that you have to pay for. Snacks were like, sausage rolls, meat balls, samosas, salads, chips etc - what we had was all good. There is also a self service tea & coffee station there and at 16:30 they do cake, pancakes etc. The drinks on the all inclusive were all good, beer, wine, soft drinks local spirits and a small selection of cocktails. Water is served by the glass, so if you are a huge water drinker like we are we bought a couple of large bottles from the bar and just got them filled up for when we went to our room, or when the other half went to the gym.
Gym - is free to use if you are AI guest - but wasn't the best, 1 walker and very few weights - I don't do gym but the other half who trains a lot said it was poor but clean and managed to get a workout when combined with swimming. There are also squash courts, tennis courts and a beauty salon at an extra charge.
Entertainment - during the day there are loads of activities, water aerobics, volleyball etc great for adults and kids, there is a scuba dive school there which offers you a free go in the pool and there are pedalos etc The animation team were really nice and friendly but not OTT - there are also the gardens and a quiet pool if you want to keep well away from the activities. On the evenings there was quite a good selection of entertainment for a hotel, or you could go to the quiet bar and play pool or table football or take your drinks by the beach and look out over the beautiful water.
Negatives - just a couple, the beach & sea isn't the best here there is a lot of seaweed and beach boys and stalls! we have been to Africa a few times, so we know what to expect - but the beach boys are quite intense and we did go to walk along the beach a couple of times but we couldn't be bothered with the hassle which is a shame - but don't let them put you off if you want to go they do go away eventually!!! it was just a good excuse for us to be lazy and lounge by the pool! The other thing is that you have to check out of your room at 10:00 when you leave and your all inclusive stops then. We didn't leave until 4pm - so we asked if we could keep our room until later which was fine at a charge of 2500 schillings(£18) which was OK but said that we had to take our AI bands off and the charge was for just the room! Which we didn't think sounded right - anyway we spoke to our rep the next morning and he sorted it out for us. And if I was being really picky - the restaurant is very hot during meals when there is no breeze, and the pool does send you ad any light colour clothing a nice shade of green partner looked like the incredibly hulk by the end of the day! but it does wash out!!!
I would highly recommend Somak who we have now travelled with a couple times, the rep is at the hotel every day from 09:30 - 10:30 and would go to him first if you have any issue with the hotel rather than go direct to the hotel reception. We also booked our safari when we got there with the Somak rep - which was fantastic and our guide was superb! If you book your safari there please be careful who you book with - personally I think it is worth paying a bit more and go with a well known company.
All in all we had a great holiday - would I go back to this hotel yep, no probs but after being to that part of the coast now a couple of times I would perhaps try the south coast as I have been told the beaches are better.
I hope this helps - enjoy!
