After 5 days in Menaggio we were bored with the same old 'touristy' Italian restaurants so we decided to drive up into the hills behind Menaggio to try to find somewhere a bit more authentic and traditional. After about 15 minutes driving up narrow winding roads, feeling completely in the middle of nowhere, we came across this place. It seemed like some sort of nature reserve in the woods with loads of outdoor seating. We were greeted at the door by the owner who spoke brilliant English and who was so friendly. We were the only people in the retaurant and she seated us in a cosy corner inside which seated about 150 people. She told us she would serve us locally produced and home cooked traditonal food from her region. The dishes she served for starters were fantastic: local meats, salami, salad and then the first course was the homemade pasta dishes. The black truffle ravioli was amazing! She told us she would serve us a locally sourced meat dish for our main course but unfortunately we were so full already we decided to go straight to the desert which of course again was home made and wonderful. To end with we were given some of her Grandmothers home made Lemoncello - beautiful!
The owner told us that it gets busy on Sundays as all the locals go there to eat and she sometimes has tour groups go too.
After our meal she showed us around as it was also a B&B. The rooms were great and such a great price too, lovely for a cosy quiet retreat.
This place was a real find, a fantastic host and amazing food, the perfect end to our honeymoon in Italy. Highly recommended!
