“Great time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Just returned from Italy and had a wonderful time staying here. We stayed at their newer location, Sunflower Spring, and then took a cooking class at the Fontanaro location. Would love to bring a larger group next time and rent a bigger portion of Sunflower Spring. Very personal and friendly service by all! Look forward to a return trip sometime. Great location for exploring more of the hill country in Tuscany and Umbria too.

This has been the best holyday for me in the last 5 years.
It was like entering heaven, the atmosphere was amazingly warm welcoming. I felt at ease and immediately at home.
There are not many people like Alina and Lucia their kindness and smiles really come from the heart.
The place is cured to detail, is very very clean, and has so many different roses it looks like an exhibition. Surrounded by nature gives a very peaceful feeling, it was really relaxing.
The delicious homemade meals were served with excellent wines, presented by Alina who studied to be a sommelier.
They have installed an olive mill for their own olive oil which is really special.
The swimming pool is extraordinary. It has a filter with salt. The filter makes the water slightly salty, but when you get out of the water there is no salty feeling left on your skin.
I still often think about that holiday.
Hoping to go back very soon, I guard a wonderful memory of those days.

If you are looking for the true slow living Umbrian lifestyle you will never find a more enriching experience. Owners Lucia and Alina are true ambassadors of culture and love. Want to learn how to prepare and cook like Nonna used to? Want to take a personal tour of the olive groves, grape vines, honey lab? At Fontanaro you will find all of these things. The greatest pride is taken in every aspect of life. Organic, slow food processes are at the heart of their agricultural philosophies. Its not at all surprising that they take just as much care in the treatment of their guests. In my case my expectations were exceeded when my hosts made it their personal quest to see that I made it to the wonderful island destination of Ventotene. Leave your lonely planet guide home and let Lucia and Alina show you what the true meaning of the word hospitality is and see for yourself.

We had a wonderful time during our stay at Fontanaro and can hardly wait to return. Our trip was wonderful and the hospitality and graciousness from Lucia and Alina were very special. All of their recommendations were excellent. No better way to enjoy the culture, beauty, art, FOOD and WINE of slow living in central Italy. Eccellente!

We have visited Tartagli (one of 3 properties comprising Il Fontanaro) for the past 3 summers with our boys, and we can't wait to return! Lucia and Alina are incredible hosts -- they know everything going on in the region, make wonderful suggestions, book reservations, and even show you the sites. You can walk to their residence nearby, complete with vegetable garden and wine cellar (you can pick fresh veggies and visit their cellar - Alina is extremely knowledgeable about wines in the region). Paciano is beautiful, complete with all necessary amenities, an excellent pizzeria, and two other restaurants. The apartments comprising Il Fontanaro are on the outskirts of town tucked into the beautiful hills. They are fully equipped, making it great fun to explore any of the village markets nearby and cook up your own meals, open a bottle of wine, and enjoy the sunsets! That said, the restaurants in any of the towns nearby are well worth experiencing. The views from the properties are breath-taking, and the beautiful pools a welcome respite in the heat of the summer, especially for our boys, now 9 and 11. They were able to roam around and explore both properties at their leisure, another bonus. Location is excellent -- halfway between Florence and Rome, and within 20-45 minutes' drive from Cortona, Sienna, Perugia as well as numerous smaller towns. There is so much to see and do for artists, foodies, church and museum afficienados, and it is wonderful to relax and unwind at the end of the day by the pool. This is far more than a vacation rental -- Lucia and Alina go out of their way to ensure you a truly magnificent vacation, Italian style!

This is not the typical "agriturismo" you will find elsewhere ! The owners , Lucia and Alina , make the stay quite different than what we normally are used to. You basically come into there world and live for the time you are staying the Italian way of life, which means, great hospitality , friendliness , great wine, superb food (especially their home grown vegetables!!).
We stayed in the main residence and were enchanted by the atmosphere (so laid-back ).

A small point which Lucia obviously noted was the internet which is limited to certain areas. They will definitely ensure there is coverage, but at the end of the day , isn't not having WIFI also great ;-)

All in All a place to come back to be it summer or winter.

To be in the hills of Umbria with breathtaking views, an infinitity swimming pool, hot tub, organic vegetable garden that you can pick your food for breakfast, lunch or dinner, Italian cooking lessons, landscaping with an artist touch and best of all the proprietor's - Alina and Lucia, are the most friendly and helpful people you would ever want to meet, plus you would want them to be your very best friends. They even helped my daughter, a 19 year old girl, get set up in Rome in a very safe environment for a solo trip on her own. I have recommended all my friends to take their vacation in Italy here. You can't go wrong!!!! Believe me, I will be back.
