We reserved this hotel a couple days before we arrived in the Lac d'Annecy area of France. It was about 20 minutes outside of Annecy (or more with traffic which may be considerable). Unknown to us, it was the weekend for the Amateur Race of one of the Tour de France legs (the final leg which would happen later in the month). The location was very lovely and scenic for the hotel. The reception staff was great and helpful. But it was not what we had expected. We tend to stay in hotels where you are in and out in a few days. This hotel is a place where you would stay for a week or two, bring all you stuff, and settle in for a holiday with your family. It is more of a "vacation condo" that you rent in the States that is part of a resort package. There are some pluses for this hotel/resort.
It has a great location near to Annecy and to the mountains around. It is close to access to the Lac d'Annecy as well--there are numerous places to access the lake including in St. Jorioz. The hotel has a restaurant(s) and bar area. It has a very nice swimming pool(s)--the outside one is great in the summer and heated. They also have an inside one as well. The rooms we stayed in are fairly new buildings (Building C). We had a balcony with a view of the mountains and lake. The room was very clean and well equipped for a condo type rental. We had four adults and had a double bed and a queen size pull out couch (which was actually better than the bed). Everything was new. There was an underground parking lot for autos (probably better in the winter than the summer and very, very dusty and dark until the auto lights came on). There is also a charge for the parking, but we were not charged that fee. There are also other activities but we did not take advantage of them. The staff at the bar near the pool were friendly and we were excited, but cautious, when we saw we could order a bloody mary. You get tomato juice, vodka, a little ice, and then they give you celery salt and Tabasco to doctor it up yourself. Better than we have had at other Euro restaurants actually.
No internet/wifi except in the restaurant area. Because of the type of rental (one bedroom apartment), we did not have maid service during our stay. And we read that we had to take care of our own trash or there could be a 50 euro charge. The grounds were under construction and very discombobulating with little roads going here and there and stacks of debris and construction laying around. The restaurant had breakfast buffet (12 euros per person) and we were told we needed to reserve it the night prior (which we didn't). The first night the restaurant was hosting a special BBQ, so you had to have reservations for that too but we had arrived late afternoon and weren't ready to commit. The sauna area was ok but was not on, so it was not heated when we got there. The lights went off while we were in it and there was not way we could figure to turn them on (they were not motion sensitive). They also had a weight/work out area that looked fairly nice.
It was not a hotel like we expected and I'm sure we might have figured that out if we had done more research prior to our trip. If we had wanted a place where we could stay for a week or so with young kids and just relax by swimming, walking, horse back riding, etc., this might have been better. But that was not what I was looking for on this trip. All in all, it was an ok place. The room was clean and adequate and new. There are many buildings scattered among the grounds so I don't know what the other buildings look like although the four closest looked like our building.
I think it is more for families with kids. And maybe after all the construction is completed and the grounds are completed, it will be a much nicer place?
If you are going with your kids, fine. If not, pick another place especially if you want hotel serv...
