“Good Hotel, Great Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Attended a wedding here recently and stayed for 2 nights. The room was bright and airy with a beautiful decking area overlooking the Loch, a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a coffee. Nice sized wet room with good shower. We ate at the restaurant adjacent to the hotel and had a GREAT meal. Their menu is very big and covers everything you could possibly want. The portions are above average size, we found them to be very generous. Wine list good and fairly priced. Breakfast was excellent in the hotel, Thank you for looking after us so well Charlie, what a lovely Gentleman you are. Breakfast was freshly cooked and served at the table and very tasty. All in all couldn't fault this hotel and would recommend to visitors of this beautiful area. Good Value for money

Room Tip: Ask for a Loch View Room the views are fantastic.

We went to Duck Bay for lunch today after finding that Cameron House's Boat House was closed for a private function (our fault for not booking). It was a special occasion - my son's 21st birthday, and a rare lunch with his grandmother - so we wanted it to be special. Unfortunately, Duck Bay was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The restaurant was about one-third full when we arrived around 1.15pm. We asked if it was possible to get a table at the window (overlooking the loch) but brusquely told no, they could only give us a table in the centre of the restaurant. As we walked across to that, we could see several much better situated tables, including a round table at the window which would have been perfect. We asked if we could have that - answer 'no, it's laid out for 6'. We asked if that could be changed (after all, it is a very informal restaurant with no complicated table settings), but were sharply told no again. We then said that my son was 21 and we really wanted a special lunch, but again told no. We asked if the table by the window was already reserved but it wasn't. The small table for 4 in the middle of the room was the only table that they were prepared to give us. The situation was akin to a sitcom, given that we were in a mostly empty restaurant with several other tables for 6 lying empty.

What made the experience so frustrating was the totally uncaring, indifferent, arrogant attitude of the servers. Clearly no customer service training has ever been given, and we reckoned that the restaurant possibly didn't care given the large amount of passing tourist trade that they must get. However, I shudder to think that visitors to Loch Lomond might think this is an acceptable standard in Scotland.

So was the food any good? I've no idea as we didn't stay to find out. Even saying we would leave if we couldn't get a better table was met with an uninterested shrug from Damien, our server, and his colleagues. So we voted with our feet and drove to Helensburgh where we had a lovely lunch and truly excellent service in the Riverhill Courtyard restaurant.

Dear Carol C,

Thank you for your review. We do our very best to accommodate all requests however there are occasions when this is, unfortunately, not possible. I can assure that there is no malice or ill will involved, just an unfortunate circumstance of the environment that we work in.

I think that its grossly unfair to completely slate our customer service simply because you could not get the table that you wanted.

Regards

We only stayed there for one night as a stopover on our way up to inverness. ( We had visited there last year, but only for a drink whilst we were in the area, and we were well impressed.)
From the moment we arrived and went inside it was apparent that there is a high standard of housekeeping and maintenance. Our room overlooked the marina from a private patio. The room was very spacious and clean. There was a walk in wetroom, and clean fluffy towels. The breakfast dining room overlooked the marina. The main restaurant is fantastic! and there are two large fish tanks built into the wall . The choice of food is excellent too . Staff were very polite and helpful. one slight negative is that the wetroom floor can be very slippy, although rubber mats are placed on the floor in a couple of areas. You just need to be aware of risk.

Room Tip: The rooms with a patio are nice, as you can enjoy the views of the marina and beyond, in the privacy...

Had dinner here and I can only say it was excellent,
The exterior of this building doesn't look great but you must go inside, the whole place has a fantastic view of the loch from every single table as it fills up the side of the restaurant, the menu has loads of different things and all are well priced.
The service was great and friendly and the atmosphere was great and even the music is quite current, one if the most enjoyable meals I have had and coupled with a stunning view this place has got it all.

We were due to leave our other accommodation when one of our party became ill. He went to hospital, but we were unable to stay where we were. We had eaten at the Duck Bay marina most of the week, finding the food superb, and so decided to see if there were any rooms available, until our companion was released from hospital. We were dismayed to see that there was a wedding on when we got there, but when we told the manager Stuart our plight, he immediately arranged a room for us. We had a very nice meal in the evening after the hospital visit, and the next morning, we arranged to stay another night after the hospital said that Alan would have to stay in. At lunchtime, there was a sudden change of plan, and he would be released, provided we drove him straight to a hospital near home. Stuart was exceptionally helpful about our sudden departure. The room was very comfortable, and the meals were superb. All the staff were very friendly, and we will definitely be going back to stay, as well as eating there again. Once again, a big thank you to Stuart for all his help.

Amazing views right on Loch Lomond.
Staff friendly & food good if slightly pricy.
Handy as they serve food al day so if cycling or walking you can fill up when passing, drinking ok but you can't eat outside so please note if your bike with you.

We all had a great time at the Duck Bay Marina to celebrate our friend Gillian's 25 Year Service
with Chivas Brothers Ltd. Great laughs, good food and an excellent waiter in Damian.
