“Peaceful Relaxing Garden Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Leonie & Paul
This is the place to get away from it all !! yet be close enough to do all the things that Raratonga has to offer. Great villas, clean and comfortable with all facilities and the little bit extra. Especially our annivesary breakfast
Excellent beach with access to the lagoon for swimming and snorkelling (equipment supplied by Makayla)
Rachel and John have fantastic local knowledge and are extremely helpful and friendly and will go the little extra to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
They helped with all of our bookings, including island adventuires, restaurants and scooter.
The home baked goodies and the garden setting with fresh fruit and herbs to enjoy are just the icing on the cake!!!

Room Tip: All Villas are fantastic.

This was my dream honeymoon! Everything I wanted and more! Be prepared for your own piece of paradise!

These beautifully appointed villas are clean, modern, self contained and best of all, private. There was no sharing of the resort with a bunch of other couples and families, these 3 villas are on the best part of the beach in all of Rarotonga! I cannot describe how magical it is to have an entire beach to yourself 90% of the time. We felt like we were the only people on the planet! The snorkelling straight off the beach is fabulous - it's like swimming in a giant aquarium. You don't need to travel to any other part of the island for snorkelling - we went to Blackrock and Fruits of Rarotonga and in my personal opinion, it was the best in front of Makayla Palms.

John and Rachel's hospitality is 5 star! With personal touches such as home baking delivered throughout our stay, tips on where to eat and a truly caring nature, made this one of the best holidays I've had in my life.

In terms of location, Makayla Palms is on the most gorgeous beach in Rarotonga. You will need a car though - especially if like us, you're quite independent. A lot of restaurants offer free pick up from your accommodation but we like the independence of a car. The Saltwater Cafe is an easy walk as is Fruits of Rarotonga (I highly recommend the fish & chips). I didn't mind renting a car as we got to check out some awesome restaurants around the island - choosing a different one for both lunch and dinner everyday.

If you're on your honeymoon or want some quiet time away, hand on heart, this is the place to stay. A huge thank you to John & Rachel for making our time in Rarotonga truly special. It's 8 days of our life we'll never forget!

Room Tip: All villas are great. If like me, you are tossing up between Sea Change Villas and Makayla Palms, sa...

Where does one start? As seasoned travellers and workaholics this beautifully appointed group of three villas is less than 50 metres from Rarotonga's best beach and lagoon and surpasses all others of a similar calibre in which we have previously stayed. However what really sets Makayla Palms head and shoulders above the many other Rarotongan properties can be summarized in several words..hospitality, unbelievable hosting hospitality excellence. From the moment of booking we were in the hands of our experienced hosts. John & Rachel left no coconut to fall, ensuring our stay was one to remember. It wasn't only the fact that our accomodation was beautifully appointed - tastefully furnished and not wanting for any luxury- it was those little personal touches offered daily tailored to suit an exhausted couple wanting to relax and enjoy the island culture & cuisine in its quiet magnificance. Small touches that meant so much, included home baking delivered throughout our stay, deicious beautifully prepared continental breakfasts, a work of art as well as a morning tropical delight. The garden ripened pineapple that we were able to pick fresh from the Makayla Palms organic garden. The evening we spent with Fred, Loving and their girls, John and Rachel and the other guests with music, food, dance and warm conversation. In all of our extensive travels never have we experienced such personal luxury involving this degree of hospitality and friendship. Combine this with natural beauty on the doorstep, the quality and thought put into the presentation of Makayla Palms Resort - then John and Rachel you have a created an absolute winner. We have departed as friends that intend to return in the very near future. Arohanui, Kim & Tristan.

Room Tip: Any of the three villas would be wonderful.

14th April - 20th April - We travelled to Rarotonga to get married. We came across this accomodation through searching the web, I can honestly say that Trip advisor was absolutely correct about Makayla Palms. Not one bad review and I can understand why.The Owners of this property were absolutely fabulous to us.

We travelled to marry alone no family or friends, John and Rachel have become our Cook Islands Family. Their extremely helpful, kind and professional, went above and beyond to make our special day and stay with them one we will never forget. This place has more than we expected. Its Clean, crisp and fresh. The gardens are kept to prefection. All villas are private and very secure. Rachel and John have thought of everything, There's not one thing these villas dont have. All self contained, Tiare Villa has everything from beautiful decor, entertainment (board games, music, books) sporting equipment (Kayaks, snorkle equip). Laundry facilities, transport to toiletries lol. Note; Rachel can bake yummy food :-) Her pre order breakfasts very very tasty.

We feel honor to have stayed here. Our private candle light dinner was magical in the Tiare Villa. This premises is less than half a minute stroll to the beach. Which made it perfect for our ceremony, especially my beautiful grassed isle I got to be blessed with to walk down to meet my husband on such a pristine and amazing beach front. In my opion located on the best part of the island. Without a doubt we would do it all over and over again, our wedding was one word - PERFECT and so was our stay. We are already discussing planning to renew our vows back here - definately with Makayla Palms :-) This time with a few family and friends, which will all be staying at this wonderful estate, so look out we will be back!

Should anyone consider this as a wedding destination contact me for any info on my experience and I would be more than happy to share or contact Rachel and she can arrange absolutely anything. Prompt and efficient communicators I must mention which Rachel and John, My many emails kepted them amused at times lol. Highly Highly recommended this whether your after a Intimate or gathering with family and friends Wedding.

Last and most of all thank you again Makayla Palms you made our time in the Cooks a very pleasurable and memorable time we will cherish forever.
With All our Love Brian and Chantelle Tebbutt.
Pics will follow.

April 2013, Our stay was everything promised and more!
The Villa was beautiful and very relaxing. Only a short stroll to the best beach in Rarotonga with all tides swimming and snorkelling.
Rachael & John are very caring and wish you only to enjoy your holiday.
They do their very best to see this happens.
Rachael comes around with home baking every now and then (ginger crunch my favourite)
We would have no hesitation in recommending Makayla Palms for a holiday to anyone and have already done so.
This was our fourth visit to Rarotonga and we have stayed in a different location each time, this was by far our most enjoyable stay thanks to Rachael & John
We are planning our next stay with them at the end of the year

It has taken us a while to respond but we will never forget our wonderful stay at Makayla Palms. it was our first trip to Raro but won't be our last. The unit had all we wanted and more; comfortable bed, good bathroom, space, peace and quiet, fresh herbs in the garden, local fruit, a few essentials to use and replace, great location and wonderful hosts. We had good chats daily to Rachel and happy that we met John the day before we left to share more stories. We loved the beach a few steps away for our daily swim. kayak or snorkel and reckon it is the best one on the island. Look forward to our next trip.

This was our first time to Cook Islands and we couldn't be happier with our experience!! There were 5 of us that stayed in one of the villas. It is an amazing set up with even more amazing hosts! Rachael and John were so welcoming! A two second walk to a picture perfect beach, and fruit galore to choose from
We are currently planning our trip back and wouldn't stay anywhere else!
