“Island time !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was our first trip to Rarotonga, initially we had somewhere else in mind to stay but our travel agent put Little Poly on the table and strongly recommended we stay there. That was the pro tip of the year for us. What a beautiful place to spend 6 nights. No loud drunken groups at the bar or kids running beserk around the property. Just relaxing, peaceful bliss with a postcard outlook. All the staff on site were lovely and the ocean front villa was spectacular. Food and service A1 and if we ever get the chance to holiday in Cook Islands again Little Poly will definitely be our destination on Raro.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your review of Little Polynesian Resort.

We are delighted that your agent chose our piece of Paradise for 1st escape to Rarotonga. Our boutique size makes it the ideal getaway for much needed relaxation.

Should you return to our beautiful shores, we offer a great package for guests who return.

Once again, thank you for your review and hopefully we will be welcoming you back.

We have been long term annual visitors to the Little Poly.
Before writing this review I went back to look at other reviews to see what others had to say. I was pleased to see the number of things that others had said that I totally agreed with.
We always stay in a Beach bungalow and normally in the exact same unit each year, if we can get it. If you can't afford beach front go for the garden rooms. They are only another 60ft from the beach... Our length of stay is always the same every year - 12 nights.
- The little poly to me is a just an amazing spot. There is no other place on the island that has this perfect setting combined with the privacy, amazing snorkeling, the widest section of lagoon so the waves are crashing way, way out. Just writing this puts me into a total feeling of relaxation.
- We found the restaurant at The Little Poly to be excellent. They seemed to be offering more nightly specials as well as the standard menu. I think one of my observations in our previous trip was the menu was limited but they made each item well, it was nice to hear, taste, even more options with their multiple nightly specials. Given the length of time we stay we don't eat every meal at the café, but we did eat many. For other meals we took the opportunity to travel around and try different places. There are several good places to eat within a short distance. The breakfast we feel is really good. Breakfast there is a variety of several fresh fruits, 4 or so cereals, a couple of different baked goods, toast, some meat, cheese, yogurt, a few juices, tea and coffee. I think this is plenty for breakfast and we never got tired of it. The important thing to me was it was fresh. I do like in previous visits when the kitchen staff on occasion put out passion fruit, or dragon fruit etc. I didn't see that this time but I'm sure they would if I mentioned it. Hot breakfasts are available off the menu. Again one of the advantages of staying at the Little Poly is to relax, eat your breakfast and just enjoy the amazing setting and ocean view, remember you don't have to be anywhere quickly. Your Little Poly experience isn't just your room. During this visit we had lunch and drinks delivered to our deck 3 times during our stay. We just relaxed in the ocean breeze and enjoyed the scenery. It really is amazing. You are there to relax so just enjoy it.
The rooms are well appointed. I really enjoy the fresh flower arrangement placed on the living room coffee table. We have been to the resort so many times it is the little things like this that I really enjoy. The sprig of fresh flowers in the vase in the bathroom, the occasional fresh flower left on the bed. I love the tropical scents. The shampoo, this is the second year they have had it, a nice island scent. I also mentioned to the manager a little additional perk to add was while on the island I found some amazing hard soap at "the little red barn art gallery" in a frangipan scent that would be another little bonus if they could make a deal with the artist to make small hotel bars. I'm knit picking but I'm sure the manager will search it out and see what he can do. Someone please send me a note if this happens...
I do suggest getting a car although I think the bus is good also. It is really a nice relaxing drive around the island no matter where you go. We sometimes do the drive to town a couple of times of day... it is really quite enjoyable. You won't find a resort / beach combination like this anywhere else on the island.
The nice gentle ocean breezes, which I feel are lovely I noticed has some negative affects on the roof thatching causing some cosmetic minor attention. Sam, the manager told me there are plans to address this starting in Dec. Such a minor issue has never stopped us from booking. In fact we are already booking for 2015 and 12 days. If we ever had any issues we would not book this same resort for 12 days year after year, nor would we take friends and family.
This is an adults only resort, it is extremely peaceful, attracting a very good class of clientele, all of which we appreciate. The staff is very attentive... just soak in the infinity pool and enjoy a nice refreshing cocktail.
Tips
Try snorkeling just out from Bungalow 3. Really nice variety of fish, love all the clams. You won't spot the clams snorkeling elsewhere. We have never seen any clams at the Fruits of Rarotonga.
Pearl shopping- If you are spending a decent amount go to a reputable place. I can recommend Bergman's, The Beachcomber or several other reputable places. If you are looking for cheap pearls the market is fine.
There is lots to do on the island or just enjoy relaxing at the Little Poly.

Room Tip: I would advise renting a car in advance. Not that expensive. Island car and bike is about $36.00...

We had an amazing Honeymoon at Little Poly, Friendly and helpful staff. Our room was amazing. All we could ask for for our special post wedding holiday!! We had a dinner on the beach set up by the Staff with an amazing sunset. Snorkeling just our front was also a highlight!

We recently stayed at Little Poly with time split between a garden villa and a beachfront villa. Interestingly, we liked both of them for different reasons - so it's really a matter of what you like. After 4 nights beach front in Aitutaki, we had already just had plenty of ocean view. What we liked about the garden villa was that it felt very private. It was possible to have natural light but maintain privacy thanks to the wall surrounding the garden. Also, because the garden villa had average height ceilings and was not so large (just a bed area with separate bathroom), the air conditioning worked very easily.

In contrast, the beach villa is quite large (lounge area, bed area, and open bathroom) with beautiful vaulted ceilings. This is great during the day, but we found that at night the air conditioning was struggling. It happened that when we visited, it was a bit humid so we really needed the air conditioning to sleep and felt very guilty having to set it at 18 degrees to get the place cooled. Another point to note is that we're not a fan of morning light and the back area of the beach villa did not have any shades so we woke up earlier than we would have liked.

That said, the villa is beautifully designed and the beach view is spectacular. How can you beat seeing the ocean from your bed? The deck with private chairs and shaded day bed was great for relaxing. We liked the breakfast and lunch but the dinner menu was a bit rich for our taste. The snorkeling visibility wasn't the best, but considering it was so convenient, again, you can't beat it. We would usually snorkel in the afternoon and come back for a 25% off happy hour cocktail. A great combo! We loved that this part of the island was quiet and leafy and if you have a scooter, everything is a short ride away. We walked to and from Muri Beach a couple of times, which is not recommended as there are no foot paths, but it was not impossible either. Finally, I want to emphasize how much we appreciated the very helpful, competent, and professional staff - they were a huge part of what made our stay so easy, pleasant, and enjoyable.

A great resort for those wanting to rest, relax and escape!
We were celebraitng our 10th wedding anniversary (had parked the kids at home with their grandparents) and Little Poly ticked all the boxes (and gained me some definite brownie points being a surprise for my wife!)
A beautiful entry and instantly friendly staff on arrival, we were seated in front of the infinity pool overlooking the pristine beach, and given a cold fruit juice whilst they tended to our booking which was a nice touch, and taste of service throughout the trip.
Our room was absolute beachfront (room 8) and kicked off the week in style!
Well set out - was all about the outlook and view to the water for the lounge and raised bedroom area.
The dual sink bathroom situated behind the wall of the bedroom and accessible from either side was functional, and in opening the back door of the room - opened up to a fenced private spa bath outside. Wow!
The outdoor balcony couch was perfect for warm nights to chat over a wine/beer and just listen to the waves crashing on the reef in the background. Very romantic.

To step off the deck and straight onto the sand was a highlight - 20 paces and youre in the lagoon!
Snorkeling was ok even out in front of the room and the free to use kayaks and paddle boards were a fun way to explore the lagoon.
Little Poly is a little bit away from Muri Beach (but thats why people choose it) so recommend hiring a scooter to get around the island.
Breakfast was good - hot and cold.
Happy hour cocktails were enjoyable.
Dinner at night under the stars was cool - the pan fried marlin was amazing.
The staff are there to book and manage any request and happy to do so - special thanks to the staff for their friendliness, help and going out of their way to make sure our anniversary celebration was totally enjoyable!

Room Tip: single digit rooms are beach front

We stayed at little poly for 4 nights in a beach bure and also had our wedding at little poly.

We had the most amazing time, everything we could need was thought of and staff went beyond expectations to make our trip and wedding day special. A special thanks to Lydianne who coordinated our day perfectly.

The resort is beautiful and we hope to be back someday.

Room Tip: beach bure's are incredible

Enjoyed our time at the Little Poly. Staff were very friendly. on the other side of the island from the main town so transport is a necessity. Food was ok, cocktails are good. Wifi is a bit expensive but i understand thats just how it is on the island. We didint get any wifi service in our room though and that was a little annoying. kinda nice to be cut off for a few days though. Had one night in the garden villas and 4 in the beach villas. The beach ones are sooooooo much better than the garden ones. Feel like a different hotel in the beach ones. Especially good for a honeymoon, (which our trip wasn't) cause everyone in the whole country just assumes that's why you're there anyway. haha

Room Tip: Definitely the Beach Villas. Infinitely better than the garden ones

Kia Orana,

Greetings from Little Polynesian Resort and thank you for your review.

Delighted to read that you had enjoyed your time at Little Polynesian Resort. Also, having the opportunity to experience our 2 room types.

Unfortunately, WiFi or internet in general for the Cook Islands is quite expensive. Our Telecom Cook Islands is working on getting the country faster and cheaper internet in the next 12 months. Might available should you return to the Cook Islands. With no access to our WiFi network in the bungalow, this is something our team will be looking into to rectify for our next guests in that bungalow.

Thank you for your review and hopefully we will be welcoming you back to our piece of paradise.

Kia Manuia,

Ovaia Henderson Liew
