“Our favourite spot in Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

We visit Thailand every year and every year we spend some of the time at Sukorn and Sukorn Beach Bungalows, with Dick and Dee and their excellent staff. My husband and I have been coming here almost since they opened the place (when we had electricity from 6PM till 10PM up till now when there's 24 Hours electrisity), and seen them gradually build it up.
Every year there's something new, and I remember regretting them putting in aircon (strange how you get used to things). I always look forward to seeing what they have done this year.
Unneccessary to say we love the place. Every year we come back, it's like coming to our second home. I brought my sister and her husband and now they are love Sukorn as well.

Although I can see that the things that make some of us love the place, is what others don't like at all. If I wanted 5 star accomodation, there are plenty of them in Thailand. The same goes for party places with lot of loud music, white sand beaches and snorkelling from the beach.
Sukorn is a heaven for all of us who want to stay at a quiet place, no music, no cars, no speed boats trying to hit you if you head into the water, no nothing, but PEACE.
If people have difficulties entertaining themselves or is afraid of silence, this place is not for them and they may gladly leave it to those of us who do enjoy the peace.
The bungalows/cottages may be simple, but we have everything we need there, and we have never been treated with anything but courtesy, either by Dick and Dee or the staff.
The sand on the beach is not white, but you may swim in beautiful warm water on both high and low tide (unusual for many places in Thailand). You may walk on the beach, visit the village on bike or foot, take a snorkelling tour to Koh Takieng(?)/Laolieng or have a very reasonably priced massage. You may take a trip to Trang town or go for a few days to some other island. Or you may just relax, let down your shoulders, lie down in your beach chair and enjoy life. (From a Sukorn-fan :-)

This year (our third visit) we arrived on Ko Sukorn after a 2.5hr longtail boat transfer from Ko Muk on a perfect day with a flat calm sea. We were met on the beach by two members of staff (sorry guys, I apologise for having forgotten your names), and were checked in with the usual efficiency one has come to expect from Sukorn Beach Bungalows. We had emailed Dick & Dee a few days beforehand to ask could they find out if anti-rabies vaccine was available on the island (my husband had been bitten by a stray dog on Ko Lipe) and, if not, could they make the necessary travel arrangements for us. Within a few hours everything was organised......Even though Dick & Dee were away on business when we arrived on the island, their staff had been briefed as to what needed to be done and our transfers to the mainland and back again went without a hitch. The healthcare system in Thailand really does work...... we waited our turn alongside everyone else in the very busy A&E department of Yan Ta Khao Hospital on a Sunday morning, and the whole process still took less than 30min (try calculating the odds of that ever happening in the UK). Back on Ko Sukorn it was then time to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures that this island offers - a well maintained beach, plenty of deckchairs (towels provided), beautiful sunsets, spotless and comfortable accomodation, good food and cold beer. Nothing is too much bother for the staff and everything is done with a smile. That's why this place simply works. Thank you all.

We travelled by longtail boat from Koh Bulone, and arrived mid morning to be met by our host waiting for us on the beach, and from that moment on, nothing could too much trouble.
We had booked for five nights, but stayed an extra night. For the sixth night, we had to move to another bungalow (an upgrade) but at no extra cost. The food was good, always ev erything on the menu and most nights fresh fish was on offer, with a waiter to explain the different types of fish. The gardens were superb, a lot of attention to detail, the gardener was there every day, attending to the plants and also all the watering. The bungalows were spotless, with an offer of change of towels and bedding each day at no extra cost, and the bungalows were cleaned every day too. Staff always pleasant and friendly. The island itself is interesting, with a few roads, not a tourist island as such, but with three villages, and a lot of wildlife, and nature walks. Not a place to come if you want nightlife. The beach outside the resort is long and very clean with few people, plenty of chairs to sit under the shade. Bikes on offer for riding around island, as the island is very flat, this is a good option.. Views from the beach to other island are good and were the sunsets. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the beach are best option, but the rooms in set of four are good

We read about Koh Sukorn and were intrigued by the fact that it was not a real 'holiday' island as most of the other Thai islands. This was our 3rd and last island stop during a 3 week holiday and we have stayed 6 days on the island at Sukorn Beach Bungalows. We booked 2 nights in a Garden View room and 4 nights in a Garden View Aircon room.

Pro's: Great service, well organized, every day cleaning, nice food (note: lunch dishes were of lesser quality compared to dinner dishes, different cook?), massage available on the beach.

Con's: apparently a lot of returning guests dominating the place a bit, a lot of older guests (we would prefer a mix of young and old), Dutch manager is a great host but would like to have things happen his way.

Furthermore we can recommend the Koh Sukorn Island tour with Dee and walking yourself is also a very nice way to get around (ask for the island map at the reception). The people on Koh Sukorn are very friendly and you feel very welcome.

It has been mentioned before: As Koh Sukorn doesn't depend on tourism (yet) the atmosphere is so different from other Thai islands. It will not suit everyone, but when you are looking for a genuine Thai island, friendly people and no nightlife; this is the place to be!

Room Tip: If you have the money to spend select one of the Beach Front cottages for the most privacy. The Bea...

The place is stell nice, great garden, attentive staff but compared to the last visits the quality of the food is going down. Little portions, Red Curry not spicy (more like a tom ka), some dishes extreme salty, sometimes low quantities of meat.

This counteracts to the otherwise extrem well run place - dont know if something changed in the kitchen.

Check in 10/18/2011, Seven nights
We arrived by fishtail boat in the late afternoon of a calm peaceful day. Just getting to the dock to meet the boat was an event another trip to an unknown place; the driver hadn't been there before either! It was great fun.
Ko Sukorn Cabanas were wonderful. Please note, we were there at the cusp of off and high season, so as things go, it was pretty quiet. The beach is about 600 meters long, often we were the only people on the beach. The water was calm, almost flat, and just shy of bath temperature. I would lie in the water while my wife collected shells. There was beach after beach full of shells to be checked out. Because it was the end of low season, the weather was still exciting. Being from the San Francisco Bay area, we are not accustomed to dramatic weather. We saw rain, more rain in quantity than we had seen before: downpour does not describe the deluge. It did not last long, about an hour of exciting rain. We also experienced a couple of thunder storms and lightning storms. WOW, they were worth the trip. Loud and bright, for us it was unbelievable.
Dick and Dee were wonderful hosts. The room was clean, basic, nothing fancy, just right for being off the grid. The restaurant was where we ate all our meals, though not extensive, it met our needs. There was wifi, though strongest in the restaurant. Not a problem.
Ko Sukorn is a small island, maybe walkable in a day; what we found interesting about the island: if the tourists did not come, the island life would probably stay the same. There might have been on other inn open while we were there. At high times maybe there are eight, not more.
We enjoy traveling, the excitement of seeing new places, but this is a place we would return to when we return to Thailand.

Room Tip: Beach front seems ideal, closer to the front office the better the wifi.

We returned to Sukorn Beach Bunglows after 3 years and found the place even more charming than last time. Although the water is not snorkle clear, snorkeling is near by. And the atmosphere of this island makes up 100%. Great food, great rooms , everything thought through and really comfortable. Relaxing and welcoming vibe.
