My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 3 week tour round France. We stayed at about 6 or 7 Inter Hotels, and the others were just what we were expecting and good value for money. But not this one.
It was hard to find (no signposting at all - it is in the small village of Forques, about 3-4km away), and when we did we thought it looked just like in the Inter Guide (we hadn't pre-booked any hotels, so used the Inter guide book as we went along). Except when we tried to book for dinner (the food options listed in the Guide were one of the reasons we chose this hotel) we were simply told "Sorry, restuarant closed." No explanation, that was it. Our French isn't very good, and there was no fluent English speaker among the staff, but we thought there should be some explanation?? The hotel has a lovely bar and dining area (used for breakfast) but it was all shut up in the evenings. We were told there was a restaurant we could go to 3 mins walk away in the Industrial area of Forques round the back of the hotel, but this wasn't a very attractive setting and the prices were very expensive. Are the restaurant and the hotel sharing profits??! So we had to drive to Arles every night for dinner, which meant one of us could only have soft drinks. Disappointing in a country with so many fine wines...
My final point is that room 112 (I think) was not as well furnished as others - there was no balcony, the room was smaller and had no hairdryer (although that was advertised in the Inter Guide), which was an inconvenience over 3 days more than a huge problem. But the price was the same as all the other bigger rooms. And the staff, whilst friendly, didn't go out of their way to help or speak to you - and we couldn't work out who was in charge!! There was never more than 1 or 2 staff members to be found around the whole hotel during the day. Even at breakfast time there was hardly ever a staff member around - the food was just all laid out and you just went in and sat where you want and helped yourself.
The only exception being the older gentleman who did the night shift and would always ask if we were having breakfast in the morning, and opened up the (normally very closed!) bar for us to have a beer one night. He was lovely.
I think we were there just as the Management were changing hands, so it is possible that we just were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because the hotel buildings themselves are lovely. Yes, it's a little way outside of Arles but if, like us, you have a car/bike and are touring at your own leisure, it's a great base for both Arles and the Camargue.
