“OK place to spend the night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

I was in Holzkirchen for business, the hotel restaurant was open when everything else in this village was closed. The bathroom was new, nice and small. The room was small, but did the job (=overnight stay). The hotel is placed inside a big old building, some character of the old post still remains. Breakfast was awesome, just what I needed for a good start of the day. Wifi was free and worked ok. Rating 3.5/5

Arrived at 8.30 pm, person on reception rushed me in and made his irritation with having to work late evident. Hotel would not offer food or a drink from the bar despite diners in restaurant who had not yet been served their main course and most tables being empty. Had to eat at a dreadful pizza place over the road.

Bedroom was 30 years out of date, hot, noisy, worn out mattress, decor is old as in old, not old as in charming or quaint.

Minibar had not been refreshed and contained one bottle of beer and one of water.

Sorry to say I can't find anything positive to offer about this hotel other than the lovely old building itself. Possibly OK if you are going hiking in the nearby forest and on a budget.

This Hotel surprised with its inside and its focus on detail - the outside is more a look alike.
I liked the friendly staff at reception, well trained, and i liked the rooms, roomy, albeit small bathrooms, good solid beds.

The breakfast, as mentioned by others, was more of 5*, clearly, breakfast is important in this place where lots of Wanderlust Folks do stop before they hike the hills and mountains.

At 110 Euro incl breakfast, double for two, this was a good choice.

A quaint hotel in a lovely area. We had a warm welcome by the pleasant receptionists who’s English (and all the other staff/menus) was super. The rooms were large and adequately sized bathroom. Fresh, cozy, double bed that will accommodate a quite night’s sleep. The hotel's parking was at the back and was welcomed by the free price tag. The breakfast was copious with cheese, lots of cereal, fresh fruit juices, a delightful tea menu, German bread and fruit galore...this provided a wonderful start to our day (which was very wet) .
The dinner menu was typical Bavarian food and translated very well into English. The waitresses were courteous, diligent and the drinks came out in good time followed by the mains, the dessert took too long by which time I consumed 2 cups of green tea.

A very nice hotel in a very nice town - Holzkirchen. Hotel was quiet, clean and the breakfast was excellent (one of the best coffee a traveller can drink in Germany - take this as a personal opinion) and about 15 minutes walk to the train station (from here you can go directly to Munich in about 1 hour). Staff is friendly and helpful and wear the bavarian dress. Do not worry if it will be raining during your stay (as it happened to me); they have umbrellas, too.

Stayed here for 2 nights for work in August. Staff are friendly, and sometimes wear the bavarian dress. Breakfast was good, and rooms were good size with nice balcony (at least when you stay on the backside you have a nice balcony).
Free car parking for guests, and about a 10 minute walk to the trainstation, where you can get the S5 directly into Munich in about 50 mins, or a regional hourly in about 40 minutes.

Hotel was quite, clean, and for the price very good.

Holzkirchen itself is not a very exciting place, and I stayed there only because of work. However it is about 30 mins away from a large lake, and close to Munich.

  • Liked — Price and large balcony
  • Disliked — no air conditioning
