I stayed at the Hotel Gattopardo which is only a few metres from Paolo's. The menu is dominated by pizza - about 50 varieties are on offer, however there is also antipasti, pasta and secondi.
I started with bigoli with duck which was very good; the bigoli, cooked al dente, had a little bit of bite and the ragu was full of flavour. I followed this with a pizza fumé which was a typical Italian pizza with a very thin base so that the topping got prime billing.
Wine was excellent value with a half bottle of bardolino only €5.50. Mineral water was similarly well priced at €2.50 for 75cl.
Surroundings are the standard, somewhat basic, Italian country restaurant but perfectly adequate especially given the excellent value of the food.
Staff were very pleasant and efficient; they never stopped moving during my visit.
