“Decent airport hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2014

Whilst this hotel isn't as handy as those that are on-site at Heathrow, it is still handy enough. Its a pleasant hotel with a good level of cleanliness and good soundproofing (under the flightpath).

If travelling overland the day before you stay then rather than going to Heathrow itself before heading for the hotel, the easiest way to get here seems to be to get the tube to Hounslow West and then a local bus for 10 minutes down Bath Road.

I strongly recommend the VII Indian restaurant / bar (and apparently hotel too) across the road. It is neither pub nor restaurant, but a mix of the two, with locals enjoying a drink and a laugh, and with good quality North Indian food on offer. Its cheaper than eating at the hotel too.

The rooms were OK and convenient to the London Heathrow Airport. Take a bus as it's much cheaper from/to airport and it stops right in front of hotel. The front desk tried to overcharge us $70. when I pointed out that we had a confirmation from Hotels.com for a cheaper price. They agreed to reverse it and give us our price. Poor PR, I think.

Booked a family room for 2 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. On arrival, checked in and given keys, not even advised on which floor we were on and where lifts were located etc. had to wait for receptionist to finish taking call and had to ask which I feel is not a very nice welcome. We had booked a meet and greet hotel package which basically the hotel arranges for your car to be picked up at Heathrow airport and returned to you on return to the UK. I gave all the necessary information and filled in the form for the receptionist. I was advised that we would be given all the necessary pick up and drop off information the following morning.
On entrée to the room there was one bed and a sofa, at first I thought we had been given the wrong room. The room smelled of damp too. I unfolded the sofa to find that there was two very small not sturdy single narrow beds with a sheet thrown over the top and a quilt. The room was really only set up for 2 people. I rang down and asked for some pillows for the children as all that was on the sofa was two stained 'living room' type cushions, I also had to ask for extra towels, cups and glasses. I didn't bother to ask for another two tea bags and milk and we had brought our own, however you would think when you have booked a room for 5 people regardless of children the basic necessities would be ready in your room. They brought the extra items but it was again 'living room' cushions, which smelled damp, so I gave the children our pillows as were so tired after a lengthy journey. The bath was mouldy really not the standard that you would expect from a Hilton hotel. I do have to say the TV was large so the kids were happy!
The following day we ate breakfast which was plentiful and delicious. When checking out we asked about the location at Heathrow for the meet and greet, the receptionist did not have the map that we were indeed advised we would get detailing all the pick up and drop off points so we spent an hour circling in and out the airport at terminal 5 looking for the correct area. in the end I rang the company who were very helpful and advised us what level and where to go thank goodness. Not right though when the hotel package should have included all of this. I have to say though purple parking were very helpful and our car was ready for us when we got back in the UK.

One night stay convenient for next day early flight. Probably as good as any other chain hotel. Friendly front desk & clean room. Be aware of small parking lot with an 11 pound p.d fee. We had to park illegally while we checked in. Shuttle to the airport is not free - 5pound pp.

Ok the title is a bit dramatic but technically it could be true and here is why:

This morning (22nd August 2014) approx 01:30am we were awoken by a really loud noise, at first we thought it was the radio on full blast or one of our phones etc but it turned out to be the hotel alarm, I put on a T-Shirt to have a look in the corridor to see the odd one or two people wondering what was going on and they just went back into their rooms, I called reception but there was no answer. The room I am in overlooks the reception so I looked out and saw nothing however the noise was so bad we left the room along with some other guests.

Once downstairs there were a lots of guests all milling about reception with no idea what was going on, people were going out of both exits, sitting in the bar and standing about reception.

I saw only two staff one of which was standing behind the desk on his mobile and the other in the back room, about 10 minutes later one of the guys decided to put on a high viz jacket that had in marker on the back 'Fire Marshal' there was absolutely no communication from the two staff and they stayed behind the desk throughout until the fire brigade came.

Now had this been a real fire which thank God it was not there could have been the risk of injury and potential death as there was no room knock by any staff, they were letting us sit in the bar, no communication and after the fire service silenced the alarm we were not told if we could return to our rooms even though people just left and returned.

Luckily we all has an idea that this was a false alarm but had this been real this would have been a shambles, your staff need serious training on what to do. Oh we did get a letter under the door that is totally incorrect as to what actually happened meaning this was a pre drafted letter (attached).

Anyway enough of that and lets get to the review:

The hotel itself is very convenient to the airport and the rooms are really nice (HHonors rooms that is), nice bed, showers and the TV is massive compared to some hotels. The breakfast was nice and the bar was relatively good pricing.

We did have a few issues that drove us mad, the minute we checked in on the Saturday the keys failed on 2 occasions, the next day it happened again and every day until Thursday, the AC in the room is non existent, the toilets do not flush the toilet roll down and thus making it kind of embarrassing if you go for more than a wee.

Good Things:

Free WiFi
Decent TV and channel selection
Nice rooms & food

Things that need changing:

Firmer pillows as these ones are far too soft and 3 does not cut it
AC needs fixing
Toilets need fixing
Room keys defo need looking at

In all I liked this hotel and would return again for sure.

Oh you're giving away free cookies on check-in, only one girl ever says they contain peanuts and no one else does, this is a big issue as I have an allergy to peanuts and could have eaten them had I not heard the other girl tell the other guests.

Room Tip: Stay away from the *40 rooms as you have the staff rooms there where they keep the cleaning stuff so...

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor. We do take all comments on board and fully investigate the matter with an aim to resolve such concerns in order to improve our standards and the facilities we provide.
I am extremely disappointed to hear about your experience with regards to the fire alarm and the manner in which it was handled and this has been addressed to the team. On investigating the matter it was found that one of our smoke detectors in a bedroom was deliberatley removed in an attempt to smoke in the room which kept a staff member occupied in the room who tried to re-set the device. While at the time we were fully aware that it was a false alarm and it was safe for all our guests to remain in the lobby, I however appreciate the fact that this should have been communicated cleary to all our guests.
Thank you very much for your positive comments and I would also like to inform you that all of the in-room issues that you faced are being looked at as well.

My sincere apologies for all the inconvenience that you experienced andthank you once again for your feedback which is of a great value to us which helps us to strive for the excellent service standards that we aim for.

Kind Regards,

James Levick.

Condescending woman with Russian surname at the front desk. Being unfamiliar with LHR, I simply wanted a realistic estimate of the time from hotel to Lufthansa check-in She insisted that I needed to leave the hotel at 3:45AM for a 6:30AM departure from Terminal 1. I arrived at the departure gate 2+ hours before the flight boarded. She also was certain that I could charge the taxi fare but the driver would only take cash, meaning an ATM stop at 4:00A. A knowledgeable, experienced front desk staffer would have been a valuable resource. This person was the polar opposite -- condescending, flippant, rude, and sadly misinformed.

We arrived in Heathrow in the evening and had a connecting flight early the following morning. We needed a convenient but comfortable hotel for the night. The DoubleTree was perfect.
It is a £15 taxi ride from Term 3. Its also part of the airport bus service for airport hotels at about £4.50.
The rooms were modern, very comfortable, clean and quiet. We really appreciated the free WiFi and its nice to get a cookie when you check in.
Service was prompt, courteous and efficient.
After traveling most of the day from NYC, we only needed a light meal and the dinning room's selection of pannini's was perfect.
This is definitely an ideal hotel for an overnight airport layover.
