“Yummy scrummy afternoon tea!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Using my groupon vouchers I have visited the burnhouse manor hotel twice - on e in August and once in September. I was shocked to read an earlier review regarding the afternoon tea offered and the quantity of sandwiches/ cakes made available. On both occasions I have left with a doggy bag fun of tray bakes and cakes. On both occasions myself and my company have been totally impressed with the staffs attitude and quality of experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the glass of bubbly which was ice cold and not lacking in bubbles! Ill be back!

Quirky farmhouse hotel with beautiful gardens. It really is set in the beautiful countryside. I came here with a few friends after getting a voucher for afternoon tea with fizz. It was such a great day we so enjoyed all the cakes – all homemade we heard as well! In the end we stayed and ordered another couple of bottles of wine and really made a day of it. Highly recommend

We had the misfortune to visit Burnhouse manor earlier today for afternoon tea. OK, it was a Groupon deal and looked like a pretty good deal for what sounded like a lovely tea (The fullprice was £31 for 2 people). How wrong I was! When we arrived we went into the restaurant area and were ignored for about 5 minutes. We then tried the bar area and I've got to say the bar staff were not exactly welcoming. We were asked to wait again and about 10 mins later we were taken to our table. We were then ignored again for 15 mins when eventually a waiter arrived with 4 glasses of what was allegedly supposed to be prosseco and 1 glass was completely flat. Then a waitress arrived with 3 scones and 4 small pancakes (there were 4 adults and 1 child). We were then asked what sandwiches we would like and we asked for a selection. We didn't believe when 16 quarter sandwiches arrived at the table. We thought for sure there would be more! At this point I went to see the manageress who told me that I was the first to complain about the food and service. I do find this hard to believe as I rarely complain about anything unless its really bad! When I said that we would be leaving hungry she suggested that we order from the bar menu (at our own expense) which I politely declined. If you do have this deal then make sure you are not hungry when you get there because you will still be hungry when you leave, and make sure you have plenty of time because the service is terrible.

My husband and I celebrated our Silver Wedding at the Burnhouse on Saturday 17th August 2013. We had booked the conservatory area and were worried when we found out a few days before our event that there was also a wedding on the same day. However we were delighted with the way the room had been decorated and the meal was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed by all our guests. A special mention must go to Katy, the Manager who was absolutely excellent on the day and extremely professional. Claire, the Assistant Manager handled our booking and was also marvellous in ensuring that all our wishes were fulfilled on the day. Claire advised us in advance she wasn't going to be handling our event on the day but the communication between herself and Katy was clearly excellent when all our wishes and more were fulfilled on the day. All the waiters and waitresses were great too with Mark and Chelsea even helping us to gather all our belongings when we were leaving. We can't comment on the bedrooms as we were not staying overnight, however we would have no hesitation in recommending the Burnhouse Manor to celebrate a special occasion.

Just back from my sisters wedding here and found the interior to be extremely Dirty! Our was OK size but mirror was thick with dust and the windows didn't seem to have a safety catch on them!! Other people's rooms were dusty, mould on windows, shower screen rubber trim was torn and dirty, hairs on the floor and one bed that looked like it had faeces on the base of it. The. Bridal suite looked lovely but the TV was hard wired to the wall and you couldn't turn the audio off so It was on all night and then to top it off the jacuzzi bath burst a pipe and flooded the breakfast room!!! They did offer the bride another room to have a shower in but it hadn't been cleaned properly :-/ . when the caretaker was called about the flooding hr said 'well don't have a bath then!
When we brought these points up to staff and asked about reductions in the bill the staff said they wouldn't reduce the bill at all

The waiting staff were lovely and bent over backwards to help, especially caryn who seemed to be dealing with breakfast for everyone as well as running reception. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!!

We visited for lunch, midweek. Were surprised at how quiet it was which is always a bit ominous however how wrong we were. We had 3 courses all of which were excellent, home cooked food that was delicious and such good VFM. Although we were the only diners a number of tables were taken by groups enjoying a high tea. It looked delicious and our only regret was that we weren't staying close enough to return to have another meal or even high tea. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend a visit.
