My husband and I stayed at the Mount Lofty House for 3 nights in mid-March. Mount Lofty was our favorite hotel of our month-long trip and we're already planning our next trip back (and hope to stay longer this time!)

Here's what we liked:
* Location: beautiful scenery of Adelaide Hills yet very close to downtown Adelaide (15 min drive); closer to Barossa Valley; incredible views from hotel; close to Cleland Wildlife Park and the summit of Mount Lofty

* Restaurant: when we arrived they said we were the only guests not to have a reservation for Sat night dinner and did we want to make a reservation. We said yes, figuring that everyone else knew something we didn't -- what a great choice, we had an excellent dinner! Dinner was in the private dining room - we were one of two couples in the room and essentially had our own wait staff. Food was excellent, great wine selection. Plus, it was just a quick walk back to our room.

* Tennis courts on grounds - you can borrow tennis racquets and we enjoyed playing next to a vineyard

* Rooms themselves are nicely decorated. I thought the bed was a little hard, but my husband thinks I was being too picky. (We often stay in Marriotts, and I love their beds so I now have high standards!) We had a little balcony with a view of the pool and overlooking the hills.

(We had a king Garden View room.)

* Mount Lofty is charming ! General ambience of the property is, as someone else described, like being at a country estate. Very relaxing! There was a wedding that weekend, and it would really be a lovely spot for both the ceremony and reception.

In short, Mount Lofty would definitely be my pick for a visit to Adelaide!

We overnighted in Adelaide itself after flying in for a weekend away. We drove up into the Adelaide Hills and did a few touristy things before booking in at Mount Lofty in the mid afternoon. The staff were busying themselves for a wedding the next day, so we cosied up in a sitting room with a coffee and magazine and waited only a very short while for our room to be finished off.

Our room was an absolute delight. It overlooked the rose garden and winter vegitable plot with fantastic views of the valley and hills to the rear of the property. It was sumptiously appointed. I've never used that word before but it really was a great, comfortable, relaxing, well appointed, clean, tidy, quiet room with a fresh feel about it. The bed was comfortable, the shower hot and strong, the TV small enough so it becomes redundant.

And then there was dinner. Mount Lofty is well away from anything else. If you go there you really should have dinner there. And what a dinner. A decent menu with some cracking wines in the cellar. As we rolled out of the dining room, the waitstaff produced our desserts for us to eat in the comfort of our room. Breakfast was the usual Accor fare, but really well turned out, eggs as you like and lashings of everything to get you on the go for the rest of the day.

The staff were friendly and discrete, the grounds terrific and appointments all you could ask for.

It really was like staying at a rich uncle's place ... and he really liked you.

We stayed at Mt Lofty house for our wedding anniversary and had not stayed there before, so although the publicity was good (thankyou trip adviser for some info!) we were unsure quite what to expect. It was a wonderful experience. This is not the place for people who prefer post modern glass and austerity or glitz; instead it is more like an English country manor (which we happen to prefer). Our room was very large and comfortable and had a balcony which overlooked the hills and adjacent valley. The furniture was antique or 1920’s- 1930’s oak and cedar in beautiful condition, and our king size bed was made with high quality sheets and bedding. The bathroom was spacious, modern and well equipped with hairdryer, toiletries etc. We also had an ironing board and iron, television and tea and coffee making facilities with tea bags, coffee and sugar, milk and biscuits. The in-room refrigerator (containing the usual Australian and American mini bar goodies of wine, beer and juices etc) was cleverly shut away in an oak dresser (minimised any fridge noise). If we had thought about taking swimming costumes, we would have used the heated pool which is set in beautiful gardens.
The Piccadilly restaurant dining room had beautiful views over the surrounding hills and valleys. We had an excellent evening meal, starting with a properly made dry martini which we drank while seated on chesterfields by the open wood fire, followed by 4 courses, each of which we couldn’t fault(our mains were duck and loin of venison respectively) accompanied with local Australian wines. Breakfast was again in the restaurant, this time with morning views. To give an idea of the calibre of the meals, I had poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon on a bed of rocket. …Continental breakfast, juice, cereals etc were also all available. Staff were all helpful and courteous. The prices for the calibre of the rooms, the hotel in general and meals etc were all lower than our experiences of anything even vaguely similar in Europe and England. The area is excellent (we know it well as we live in nearly Adelaide city) but you will need a car if you want to drive around and tour the lovely hills area and visit the wineries, animal sanctuaries, national parks and gardens etc. It is also a good area for walking in general. Take note too, that we were there in Spring, an ideal time to visit; it can get hot in summer in Adelaide and the adjacent hills areas.

This is a fabulous property overlooking the city of Adelaide, in the Adelaide Hills. Pefect for that romantic getaway, or special occassion. Our room was huge with a balcony overlooking the hills, large en suite, king size bed, and seperate area for lounging (and we just got a normal room). Staff were very helpful about the surrounding area. We ate in the excellent resturant (once again with excellent views) and then retired to the billiard room. The afternoon was spent swimming in the pool and exploring the beautiful grounds. Only thing to note is that you need a car to get there ($40 Australian Dollars by Taxi from the centre of Adelaide)
