We overnighted in Adelaide itself after flying in for a weekend away. We drove up into the Adelaide Hills and did a few touristy things before booking in at Mount Lofty in the mid afternoon. The staff were busying themselves for a wedding the next day, so we cosied up in a sitting room with a coffee and magazine and waited only a very short while for our room to be finished off.
Our room was an absolute delight. It overlooked the rose garden and winter vegitable plot with fantastic views of the valley and hills to the rear of the property. It was sumptiously appointed. I've never used that word before but it really was a great, comfortable, relaxing, well appointed, clean, tidy, quiet room with a fresh feel about it. The bed was comfortable, the shower hot and strong, the TV small enough so it becomes redundant.
And then there was dinner. Mount Lofty is well away from anything else. If you go there you really should have dinner there. And what a dinner. A decent menu with some cracking wines in the cellar. As we rolled out of the dining room, the waitstaff produced our desserts for us to eat in the comfort of our room. Breakfast was the usual Accor fare, but really well turned out, eggs as you like and lashings of everything to get you on the go for the rest of the day.
The staff were friendly and discrete, the grounds terrific and appointments all you could ask for.
It really was like staying at a rich uncle's place ... and he really liked you.
