“Fantastic, Friendly accomodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

We recently return after a week's stay at the Thalassa Beach Resort, we found the staff very helpful. The accommodation was lovely and clean. Good choice at breakfast. Couldn't fault it.

Room Tip: I would thorough recommend paying the extra money to upgrade to the Junior Suite

My friend and I spent a wonderful week at this hotel. Friendly staff: eager to please, good English skills. Nice facilities outside (pool, pool bar, lounge chairs on the beach etc). Good breakfast. We had spa treatments and were very happy with the facial and body massage. The “rain forest shower” wasn’t much, though. The hotel interior is minimalistic. Very clean. The only drawback I can think of is the traffic noise you get if your room is not facing the beach. So if you make sure to get a sea view, you'd have it made.

Room Tip: With a sea view you'll avoid the traffic noise.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

we had a great time here. we were a bit scared because it is right along the tourist strip of town, but we had a car so were were able to get around the island. if you dont have a car, it is easy to walk into town and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. our room (#606) was wonderful. great view from the balcony and just lovely. very clean, great bathroom and a jacuzzi tub. my only problem with the bathroom, was that there was no place to hang wet towels. only one small hook. great shower and it even had a seat. the gym was great however, i wish it had longer hours. the room had a great tv and even a dvd player but they dont have any dvd's so you need to bring some. breakfast was very nice --plenty of food and it went until 10:30 which was great. the pool area was very nice but you cant really do any laps until it quiets down from the kids. the beach was lovely but it is hard to get into the water at the hotel--too rocky. you need to take a short walk down the beach. the staff was great. very nice and helpful. i had a problem with the internet in the lobby. i could not get it working. overall, i would recommend. this is probalby one of the only hotels that i have stayed in where the room actually matched the picture on the web.

Room Tip: 606 was a great room.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

We stayed at the hotel for a week in July 2011.

Our experience is that this hotel can be recommended to others, although it is maybe more expensive than other hotels around Chania.

The hotel is very beautiful, with a nice beach right outside. If you want to use hotel pool so it has pool bar that serves cold drinks, ice and food (huuge portions) - all reasonably priced.

The restaurant inside is very good with a varied and wide range of food, for both breakfast and dinner.

Unfortunately we ended up in a room that had a lot of mosquitoes. Did not help that much with mosquito spray, either. Anyway, when we complained to the reception you got a new room without question. This room was higher up and then we did not notice any mosquitoes anymore.

We are left with the impression that the staff is very service minded and want your customers to get the best possible stay.

The hotel is located at the end of Agia Marina (coming from Chania) only about 500 meters before Platanias. Bus stop is about 50 meters from the hotel and journey to Chania takes about 20 minutes. Also buses to Kastelli Kissamos (incl. one to the port)and Elafonissi stop here. On the opposite side of the street there is good supermarket, selling not only cheap water and wine but also fresh orange juice 500 ml bottle for 1,30 euro :-) The rooms with sea view are great but there are only 5 in the First Floor. I booked it and was upgraded to Junior Suite with sea view in the Second Floor. The view from my terrace was excellent not only to the sea but also to the island. Junior Suite was very spacious with living space down and bedroom up by the staircase. The only problem was that even when thanks to AC down was pleasantly cold, up (in the bedroom) was warmer. Daily housekeeping, everything clean. Safe deposit box costs 2 euro per day. I highly recommend to book a room with sea view, standard rooms are cheaper but have bad views, some of them are even under the level of pool, from others you would see opposite rooms and balconies. Very comfortable is elevator even in the 2-storeyed building. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free by the pool but on the beach cost 3 euro per person. Breakfast is adequate - also bacon, eggs, sausages, some cheese, salami but no fresh juice and very limited offer of fresh fruit. Restaurant and its terrace is very pleasant, buffet dinner costs 20 euro and it was OK - choice of very good fish steaks, chicken, lamb, pork, nice salads, delicious desserts. But I do not know how often the choice of meals is changed. I was only one evening here and other evenings visited other restaurants.

Service:
Reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff all fabulous. Friendly but unintrusive.
Waiters and their restaurant manager particularly fabulous and well trained - very professional.
Value:
Great price achieved off-peak. The room and restaurant were top-notch and we are still so pleased we chose this hotel!
Sleep Quality:
Biggest bed i've ever slept in! Mosquitos managed to sneak in which was the only downside.
Cleanliness:
Spotlessly clean; housekeeping made the room up beautifuly each day including full mop of floor. Poolside are very tidy and clean also.
Restaurant:
Fantastic food. Almost no need to eat anywhere else. Off-peak the restaurant was relaxed but smart. Nice choice of tables (some outside, some in). Beer was well priced. Service was ideal. Fabulous range of Greek/Cretian food; some simpler pasta dishes for fussy eaters. Poolside bar looked delicious too but didn't use.
Room service:
Did not use. Imagine it would have been great though! Did use washing service which was reliable and ok priced.
Spa:
Only used small indoor pool, which was lovely.
Swimming Pool:
Nice clean pool. Cute kids pool. Not space for many beds so unless you're up early you have to pay to use the hotels beds on the beach, which is just next to the pool. 6 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella. Beach quite pebbly, rocky. But shallow once you're in the sea and lovely, clean water. Bring your jelly shoes! Fabulous views too.
Free Parking:
Available under the hotel (very tight squeeze!) shoudl you hire a car. Would highly recommend you do and suggest going to the gorgeous Elifonsi, it's only a couple of hours easy drive and it is unbelievable.

As a young couple we absolutely loved this hotel and would like to return. Off-peak there were few children and few Brits (lots of Scandanavians) which was ideal. Aghia Marina is within easy reach of Chania town (1.6 euros single by bus) and there are restaurants and bars near the front of the hotel. 10 minutes down the road (turn right!) is the more lively Plantianas with lots of bars, restaurants and clubs - ideal for going out after dinner. Get this for a good price and you will be THRILLED! :)

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for a sea view. The garden view is lovely and is peaceful.

We stayed Thalassa Beach Resort end of april and it was suprise how good the hotel was. The staff was very helpfull when we needed them. Restaurant had several different types of food; chicken, fish, meat. And also there was food for the kids. Breakfast was also very good. Location of the hotel was good. Supermarkets are across the street. Bus stop is across the street, where you could take bus to Chania. Platanias and Old City are so near that you can walk to those places. For scandinavium tourists I can tell that nordic guide office is also across the street. If we ever come back to Agia Marina, we can go again to Thalassa Beach Resort. :)
