“Great owner, charming place tucked away from touristy Agia Marina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2010

Tip: don't do as we did - land in Heraklion (with Easyjet) at night! Make sure you either fly to Chania airport and take a 15 minute bus to Ag Marina, or if you must, land in Heraklion during the day so you can grab a 2-hour bus ride in.

Otherwise you face a 2+ hour ride trying to find this little town in the dark, and arrive at 3.30am!! Unbelievably the owner Giannis stuck around to wait for our arrival! Folia is not the easiest to find as it's some way off the main strip of Ag Marina. Definitely would not recommend for those with mobility issues.

BUT these were all the faults we could find. Giannis is absolutely charming and helpful, the prices for this time of year is affordable even for backpackers and what's more the room & facilities were fantastic! We booked for a garden view room but got upgraded to a sea view, and self-catered with their little kitchenette. There was a balcony too. Happy times. Pool is a bit small but beach is, like everyone else said, 5 mins away.

Come here. Hire a car too, Budget Rental gave us a good deal when Athens-cars (who we originally booked with) tried to palm us off with a car with a flat tire!

We’ve stayed at Folia hotel for 2 weeks… and enjoyed every minute of it.
It is a family owned and managed hotel… thus you can understand that everything is as it is supposed to be… clean, friendly joyful staff, quiet, green, full of flowers… honestly, I’m trying to find things I did not like… but can’t. I miss their greek coffee… I can’t make it like they do… although I was instructed on how to …
Folia hotel is the perfect location to set up your quarters and visit west Crete by car. Chania town is 10 min. by car… a town to remember… If you go there, don’t miss the Tamam restaurant!
2 weeks were not enough… we’ll be back.
Giannis and Nikos… please don’t ever change the way you are!
Thank you!

We visited Folia in September, 2009 during two enjoyable weeks. The personnel in Folia is glad and very friendly to whom guests’ well-being and feeling happy seems to be of great importance. We received a great deal of kindly service in the form of different arrangements, some already before our arrival. The hotel is clean, well maintained and an especially beautiful building with a picturesque view. The loacation is excellent: in a peaceful setting, however near to the beach, mountains, good tavernas of the old village of Agia Marina, shopping and the bus stop with handy access to different resorts. We can warmly recommend this hotel to everyone who appreciate this kind of things.

We stayed in hotel in September for 7 nights
It was a great choice !
Especcialy, that we ordered a room with garden view and was a great surprse that we saw sea--each morning to se fantastic sunrise from the sea and Hania's light house -something special (!)
Our daugher broked some things in the room, but owners told "never mind".
We felt like at home :)
(Ag Marina is for us is not nice tawn, but luckily, that hotel is on the hill and You don;t see shopping street from it. It's convenient place with the car to discover Western Crete)

I was visiting this place in 2001 with my friends, but we usually spend quality time in the swimming pool of Minerva Dore Hotel near by.
Folia is a nice place, quite, on the hill. 5 minutes walk from the beach. Rooms where big nd clean. We had a kitchen to prepare food (as we decided not to take BB or HB here)
It was a perfect leisure time...

Stayed at this charming family-run hotel in Agia Marina, Western Crete, in peak season. The hotel is owned and run by the Milonakis family- father, mother and two brothers and has been established 19 years, though looking at the decor and construction you would think it was brand new this year. The family are builders, and so the structure and decor are all kept immaculate. The hotel has a small pool (which is not busy), bar and terrace area. A wi-fi laptop is available for loan if you need to check email etc.
The rooms are clean if a little small, and have a balcony and simple kitchen area. Rooms have airconditioning which struggles a little in the high-season heat in the larger rooms, which in the end we didn't use- you are far better off opening the balcony door and windows, and relying on the breeze to cool the room. Night temperature is about 25 in August. The hotel is 'two roads up' from the beach level, an easy 5-minute walk (some older guests may find the climb taxing). It's possible to hear the music from one of the beach bars in the evening (though it's not over-loud). Thankfully it is turned off about 10pm.
Guests in the hotel during were mainly Greek, French, Italian or Scandinavian couples with a few families. There is no problem with noise or rowdiness, thanks to the lack of the drunken (mostly British) idiots who have blighted some previous holidays (They are mostly in Malia, near Herakllion- a place to avoid unless you like that kind of thing).
The Millonakis family are charming, and very helpful and knowledgeable about attractions on the island. Service is very efficient for drinks and advice etc. It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel, it was a fantastic find.

Stayed in this hotel for a week in the beginning of July this year (2009) together with my girlfriend, my brother and his girlfriend. It was a great stay from beginning until end!

The hotel is clean, they have a very nice secluded pool, great service by the two owners Nico and Giannis. All in all, almost no complaints at all regarding the hotel in itself! It is a little gem in fact!

I do however not recommend this hotel to anyone with a walking disability as it is a fair bit up the hill from the main road. Also, the beds are quite hard and I personally was missing a simple thing like a hook for the shower head.
