“Very impressive resort overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Most of the reviews are accurate. This is a high quality place to stay that I am not accustomed to be honest. The pool area was very relaxing and enjoyable for my wife and I.
It was great to walk in the courtyard each day and see 2ft. Long iguanas! Loved that aspect. There is other exotic wildlife on the property.
The downside to this resort is the fact that they will nickel and dime you to death. Do not stay here if you do not have your own transportation! Sure they only charge $4 p/p for the hourly shuttle but they make it sound like no other transportation will come out to the resort other than the ones they use. Their is a guy in the tours office who has a very condensing attitude towards the guests. When asking for them to call a red cab company to go into Jaco they make it difficult and pretty much refuse. It was so bad towards the end of our 4 day stay there that I needed my wife to go into the office for fear of me getting nasty with the bad attitude employee.
Another thing I didn't care regarding the staff was a local off site restaurant where the locals mingle. They flat out acted like no other establishments existed outside the gates of Los Suenos.
All of the other staff, mainly the front desk were very pleasant to deal with daily.
Maybe I was just out of my normal element with the whole trying to squeeze every penny out of each customer

My husband and I arrived in San Jose Nov. 23, 2012 late in the evening so decided to stay at the airport Courtyard with free shuttle. Leaving the airport is very confusing with everyone asking to help you find your way. Shuttle pickup area was not marked so we let someone lead us to the area and phone the hotel and we tipped him because this is what they're looking for. The courtyard was ok for the night.

The next morning we arranged ahead for Estalin from CostaRicaTourOffice.com to pick us up and drive Los Suenos. Estalin was prompt and we had a very nice conversation on the hour trip to the hotel. Estalin previously worked for Marriott Los Suenos so this is why we chose him plus the great reviews posted about him. We liked him so much that we asked hime to make arrangements for us to zipline, guide us thru Manuel Antonio Park, and arrange a fishing boat at a fraction!! of the cost for us to have the experience of catching the "big one".

Had a blast on the zipline and have Estalin arrange because it will cost less. Estalin also was our guide thru Manuel Antonio and had knowledge about all sorts of things in the park from vegetation to sloths. We did see 5 sloths, howler monkies, and whiteface monkies. Fishing was on the boat "Allin" and all though the weather wasn't the best the captain and mate showed us a great time. We even saw a whale shark. Caught 2 yellow tunas and 4 mahi mahi. We took a fillet to the chef and he prepaired an awesome dinner for us. The rest of the fish fillets were given to Henry (the captain) Carlos (first mate) and Estalin.

Marriott Los Suenos is a very nice property! My husband is a platinum member and we chose the all inclusive package which for us was nice. Franklin, the reservation manager helped us with some confusion about our package with a great smile and professional manner that we appreciated. Any problems, find Franklin. We found the food to be very good and the waiters to be extremely helpful and pleasant. Special thanks to Fabian and Marko. Loved the pool......the design is awsome because even if the property is crowded the pool could have a private feel. We were upgraded to a suite and this made our vacation soooooo comfortable! Thank you to the Marriott employees for their friendly service!

For our return we were picked up by Estalin. I wanted to take back coffee and t-shirts so Estalin stopped at a shop that had reasonable prices and choices of coffee that were not displayed at the resort. What a great one stop store. I highly reccomend CostaRicaTourOffice to help make your vacation experience memorable. I also loved the beauty of The Marriott Los Suenos.

Spent a week at this Marriott property and can't wait to come back again. I would encourage everyone to use the transportation service in the hotel Swiss Travel. When you arrive at the San Jose airport it is very confusing with alot of people and alot of yelling. Do pay the $3.00 or $4.00 extra to have the representative meet you inside!! From that point on others will leave you alone and you are guided directly for your driver. We had a comfortable drive in a mini van and he pointed out interests along the way! Nickolas at the front desk is wonderful making you feel very welcome and explaining the property. If possible get a room with a balcony (they all dont have) it is great for relaxing and watching the ocean and boats come in and out of the marina.

We played golf 4 of our 7 day visit, the course is fun and challenging not just a resort course. The staff there are so friendly and will assist you in any way. We saw monkeys, large raccoons, toucans and macaws. Bring a few extra balls. We rented clubs they aren't the latest but they will help you get what ever you need.

If you have stayed in any good American resort you will not be blown away with the food costs it is a resort after all. The food is Excellent!! We especially enjoyed the Latin restaurant on the lower level. We had breakfast room service each morning for half of the breakfast buffett cost and had more than enough! The resort is and rooms are spotless!

Do walk down to the Marina the food there is good and the small store Jimmy's is great for picking up odds and ends snacks. We took the van shuttle into Jaco one afternoon if you want to get a flavor for the area.

I can't say enough about the Costa Rican people they are so welcoming and friendly. We always felt safe but didn't leave the property after dark. Can't wait to plan another visit!

Room Tip: If possible get a suite ocean facing the two balconies with hammocks are great.

Had a wonderful stay. The hotel is right on the water and within walking distance of a Marina with other restaurants and amenities. Hotel was quite clean and everyone was very helpful. Food was a bit expensive. Expensive for Costa Rica, but not unexpected for a Marriott. Still, the food we had was good. Buffet breakfast, outdoors, by the pool, was a great start for the day.

At the end of the road (by route 34) is a nice shopping area. The market had wonderful items, so load up on sundries and bottled water there. Save your money for the nearby Zip lining and Canopy tours.

Closeby is Jaco - a 10 minute drive. Plenty of authentic shopping and eating there.

Ok. Most of the reviews on this resort are spot on. This hotel will nickel and dime you as much as you let it. Mind you, AS MUCH AS YOU LET IT. You don't have to and the resort doesn't seem to mind if you don't. This hotel is very, very nice and was worth the money. You just have to be smart, do your homework, don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't be afraid to leave the hotel grounds proper.

The grounds are very nice. The hotel is part of a larger resort. It is very clean, very safe, and you can easily walk from the hotel to the marina (more on that important subject). Further, you can easily walk out of the resort (south on the beach....wade (ankle or shoulder deep depending on the tide, or on the road to the main road) to the many "sodas" or local restaurants or markets around this hotel. Again, it is very, very safe.

Food, drinks, Marina: If you stay at the Marriott, the marina is a short ten minute walk across the bridge (by the "minature golf" course) and down the path (can be dark at night but don't worry) to the many nice restaurants and stores at the marina. "Hook Em Up" restaurant and bar has reasonable prices for breakfast, lunch, and a pub type dinner. $25 for two people? That's about it. Hotel costs $60 for the buffet breakfast for two. El Galeon is a nice place, a little more expensive, but cheaper than the hotel. Sushi and Italian places are good too. Excellent sushi. Easy walk from hotel, cheaper alternative than the hotel. There is a liquor store there...buy beer and wine there. Further, the "Auto Mercado" at the top of the main road to the highway is an American style supermarket with all you need. Load up on beer, wine, snacks, etc. there. You can ask your tour driver to stop. They always will. The hotel does not care if you purchase food and drinks off property. Ask for a refrigerator before you book.

Tours: Don't spend money on Swiss tours unless you have to. Piko Travel (Gerald and Piko) are on the beach (more on that later) and can give you a much better price. Trust them. We did a half dozen tours and loved each one. PURA VIDA, GERALD!!! See my review about Piko Travel.

Herradura: South of the hotel on the beach. Easy walk. You have to cross a little river that can be sort of high depending the tide. However, it was fun for me and my wife the time we misjudged the tide and had to wade across the small river (which was ankle deep when we crossed the first time) up to our waists. We laughed the whole time. Again, very safe. There are a few bars and restaurants on the beach in Herradura. See Gerald or Piko on the beach for a recommendation or reservation. Tip them though. All are good enough to enjoy. Juanita's is nice and the Pelican is nice too. Have a 'sunset' drink on the corner beach bar in Herradura. Also, try the sodas. Your mistake if you don't.

The beach: I don't know what all the complaining is about. It is not a white sandy beach. So what. If you are from the north east US, it's part and parcel of what you might get there. Certainly a good deal of rocks (small pebbly types) before you get to the water but there is plenty of sand and an easy surf to swim in. Go to Jaco (town south of the restort by Swiss Travel $8.00 round trip per person, don't call a cab...go to the travel office and get a voucher) for big waves and surfing. See Piko for that. Gustavo is a great teacher and he makes the day fun. You'll see.

All in all, VERY VERY GOOD. I did not encounter any of the negative things written in some of the other reviews. I would definitely go back. The pool is spectacular. Bring you own drinks and snacks....even more spectacular.

Room Tip: Fourth floor ocean view...not a great view. Nice though. GET A REFRIGERATOR!!!

The hotel is part of a newer development that includes a golf course, several gated residential complexes, another resort and a marina. It felt like I was staying in any US suburban development while I was at the Marriott. You will not get an authentic Costa Rican experience if you stay here.

That said, I did enjoy the pool which was absolutely stunning. We stayed just before high season and basically had the place to ourselves. I booked a surfing lesson through their on site tour company which was amazing. Our room was comfortable and included an oversized bathroom complete with the same products you find in a US Marriott.

While I would not return to this resort I did think those who are looking for a taste of home while abroad would enjoy their stay at this resort.

Room Tip: Rooms in the *46, *63 and *66 lines have corner window for a double exposure. Some rooms have ham...

We stayed here for 3 nights after driving down from the Arenal region. Beautiful hotel and grounds. We were informed that our quad occupancy room was actually meant for 2 adults and 2 children, not 4 adults, and we were told that we may have to pay $20 to change this. I informed them that as part of our package, no such differentiation was made, and we paid as adults for our package. They waived the fee, and the 4 of us stayed in a standard room. Buffet breakfast was divine!! Everything you could want, eggs, eggs benny with holondaise, waffles, pancakes, pastries, fruit. The pool was absolutely beautful, but were dissapointed that the hot tub was part of the spa, and required a charge to enter. Also a little dissapointing that wifi wasn't free. Considering this place was so luxurious, I thought it would have been prudent for the concierge (after we discussed our route for the evening) to inform us that there wouldn't be any restaurants open in Jaco by the time we arrived there. We thought the hotel gift shop, had the best deal for coffee, buy 10, get 14! about $7 a lb. The restaraunt had alright food, avoid the tortilla soup. Overall, beautiful hotel, very luxurious, very happy we could stay here for a reasonable price.
