We went to this show only because the Lonely Planet guide insisted a traditional dance show was a must do on the island and we really had no idea what to expect. What we got was an amazing hour of entertainment for $15. The music and dancing are delightful and engaging. The length of the show is just about right though more would be better than less.
As others have mentioned, crowd participation is part of the show but the performers are not at all pushy - if one declines an invitation to participate they quickly and politely move to another person.
The show starts at 9pm. We arrived at 8:30 and the seats were relatively empty but it filled up quickly. We sat in the slightly elevated stands in the back which I think provides the best view.
In sum, Lonely Planet got it right, a visit to Easter Island without taking in one of these shows would not be complete.
