“Amazing view, Very Good Food. Kitchen is on Island Time.”
We ate here twice. What pushes this restaurant from 4 stars to 5 stars is the view and romance. There are tables indoors, under a covered patio and also out on the lawn - take your pick to suit your style. You can watch both the evening surfers and sunset from the patio and lawn, which is a big plus. The food was very good - not excellent - but very good. We had the ceviche and the fish of the day. Portions are large and we found the fish decently seasoned, appropriately cooked and appropriately sauced. The first night we had a local fish and the second night, tuna. The tuna was better. The fish is usually served with a lovely side of vegetables. The mixed drinks are quite tasty, large and generally strong, but be prepared to pay island prices - $10 - $12 per drink.
There are some negatives however. The kitchen and bar are on island time - don't expect to get in and get out, dinner will take 2 hours minimum. After a few days on Easter Island though, we have realized that this is pretty normal (even in mainland Chile, kitchens are slow by USA or European standards). Even the island empanada stands at the beach take 30 minutes. Also, the 10% tip is mandatory - this can be frustrating if you don't care for the service (we thought it was fine).
This is definitely a special occasion place (for locals too). Many evenings, there is live island music which is very relaxing. The view, atmosphere and romance are very special.
