“The capitol of relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

If you want to relax and unwind, this is the place. You can hike if you want or raft or ride a horse or stroll into town or just sit in one of the rocking chairs on your private porch listening to the river and the wind in the trees and watch the hummingbirds.
The food is excellent, the service amazing, the rooms beautiful and the beds comfortable. And of course you have a jacuzzi on the side porch.
Fantastic place.

El Silencio is a bit hard to get to, but if you want to experience the rainforest, this is a great place to go.  The location is beautiful, the staff is great, interesting and fun, and the good is excellent. We did many activities there including a trip to a coffee plantation, a trip to a cocoa plantation, hikes in the rain forest, horseback riding in the rain forest, and more. They were well priced and well organized. The staff is fantastic and very personable! The food in the restaurant is excellent.

Saludos and many heartfelt thanks for your enthusiastic review of El Silencio Lodge & Spa. Both El Silencio and its sister beach property, Hotel Punta Islita aim to present a unique non-touristy region of Costa Rica that stands out for unspoiled natural beauty and impeccable attention to detail. Gracias!

Had a wonderful stay at El Silencio. Truly best in class service at a beautiful jungle resort. The staff was very helpful and did everything possible to ensure a perfect stay. Francisco, Carlos, and Andrea were world class professionals. Rooms were big, very comfortable beds, and the hot water bottle turn down service was a first for me. Great showers and a nice hot tub. The property has a self guided jungle walk along the river to 3 fantastic waterfalls. The hidden waterfall was the best!! Ask Andrea for a guided tour. They have their own green house with a large variety of fruits and veggies. Home grown trout, (Trout tartar on the dinner menu was great) and everything you can eat provided locally. A+ for sustainability. Would rank this resort with any. Great anniversary for my wife and I.

Very hard to get to (and to get around from), but sooooo nice when you are there... Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Beautiful and very private rooms. Magnificent property with its private hiking trails (well worth exploring). Very good food made from local ingredients (check out the greenhouse and trout ponds), although not especially creative or inspired (yes, we are being picky). All in all a superbly relaxing place, perfect to recover from jetlag and get ready to go explore.

Yes, this hotel is in the middle of nowhere - but thats it's appeal. However, you need to realize and accept that you are a far and difficult drive from most area parks and attractions (1.5 hours to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfalls, 2 hours to Arenal). The drive in is also very stressful (as others have mentioned), BUT when you finally get there - WOW! Totally worth the white knuckled drive up. You find yourself nestled in a private, pristine cloud forest in the mountains. The hotel itself and accommodations are amazing. First rate luxury, and very private. Only 15 rooms, and every gueat gets their own private bungalow, and hot tub surrounded by nature. Feels like a luxurious sleepaway camp for adults. We hiked through the property... Definitely do this. Great flora, fauna and 3 beautiful watefalls that you will not read about in any guide books (yet). We enjoyed this hike far more than La Paz waterfall gardens which is touristy, 1.5 hours away and almost $40 per person just to get in. Hiking with a guide on the property is free, beautiful, safe and completely unspoiled. Nothing touristy here. The staff is AMAZING. Such personalized attention. There are 45 in staff, yet only 15 rooms with mostly couples. They knew our names immediately, greeted us with a smile at every turn, helped us navigate our way around and made sure that we had a great time. Every morning they mingle with guests to hear about yesterdays adventures and help plan the next. This place is very laid back, and very upscale all at the same time. But very real. this is far away from anything touristy. The organic garden and trout pond is very cool... This supplies ingredients for the restaurant. The food is INCREDIBLE. Farm to table done better than i have ever seen anywhere in the world. Every morsel has so much flavor. The ingredients, and preparation, are superb. I have read reviews from people that think $35 per person for dinner is too high, but i disagree based on the fresh grown/raised organic ingredients, quality preparation and the fact that it is 3 courses. At home, this meal would easily be double that price, if not more. There's nowhere else to go (literally), but they do not price gauge and both the food and service are fantastic. I really fell in love with this place... it is a little slice of heaven in the cloud forest - and it's not yet on the map! I'm sure it will be one day. If this is the kind of experience you are looking for, then El Silencio is a real treat.
