“Good Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

Wonderful location for a chill out quiet holiday, staff very friendly and helpful. rooms comfortable and well furnished. Towels are like gold dust impossible to get one of decent quality.
Food good and plenty of it, hot food gets cold very quickly, Dining Room very institutional
no attempt to provide entertainment for guests

... unless they hide the good stuff away from those on half-board or B&B basis. Stayed from 4/1 - 11/1 2014 and have to say I took the comments about the cold and dodgy food with a large pinch of salt before I went, putting the moans down to the usual random moany suspects. But it's true. Breakfast opens at 8.00am. Arrive at 8.05am and there are large trays of cold beans, cold bacon and cold scrambled eggs. Did the kitchen staff do the trays before they went home the previous evening. Was lucky enough only to go down with a dodgy tum once, after having some lukewarm chicken, but thereafter took to finishing off every meal with copious quantities of natural yogurt to pre-empt any problems. Like I say I genuinely feel sorry for anyone booking up here on an all-inclusive basis. It's a shame really. Overall its a top-of-the-range 3 star hotel. Efficient welcoming reception, good clean bedrooms, lovely pool area. As a single traveller, the canteen-style eating arrangement suited me, even if the food didn't, and the hear-a-pin-drop central reception/lounge area offered free wi-fi. Which is good for a single traveller, but I found the sight of thirty people, including family groups of four or six people all sitting around engrossed in their personal electronic devices particularly dispiriting if not downright sad. Wouldn't really take very much to move the place up a star. But as there isn't any kind of feedback questionnaire provided at the end of your stay, don't expect things to improve anytime soon. So if you must stay there on your trip, I'd advise using it solely as a place to sleep and possibly have breakfast (avoiding the 'hot' food). The beach and lagoons are fantastic and the real star of the show and are highly recommended.

Room Tip: Don't spend extra on a sea view room, there's another building blocking much of the direct s...

We revisited El Cotillo in Sept 2012 for a 10 day chill out after a busy working summer for us.
Cotillo has changed since we first ventured up here from Costa Calma 11 years ago, but it remains quiet and still almost village like. We started staying here 3 years ago when the south just got too busy for us. If you want entertainment, clubs and lots of shopping dont bother coming to Cotillo. If you want a quiet relaxing time with some good restaurants and superb beaches then El Cotillo could be for you.
The Cotillo Beach Hotel is way above average for its type (and price) Dont expect 4 star opulence for 3 star pricing and you wont be disappointed.
Check in was easy, we arrived at 11.30 am due to an early flight and within 10 mins we were having a coffee from the bar, all the reception staff we encountered were great with a special call out to Mark who really went out of his way.
Our room was upstairs from reception overlooking the pool and was absolutely fine, everything worked and it was clean tidy and comfortable, again great service..extra pillows and an extra key please ? Delivered in 10 mins.
Pool area great with plenty of sunbeds with little sign of "reserving" Pools itself nice not cold at all.
The restaurant was buffet style usual Canaries offer, and this is where the 2 of us beg to differ with other reviews. The food was plentiful, not too cold and perfectly adequate. Its not gourmet its not flash but there was enough choice for us over a 10 night stay.
The new Bar terrace was ok, we had no problems geting drinks on our All Inclusive deal.
There was some rudimentary entertainment but you felt the guy doing it maybe was not the right person for the job as he seemed a bit unsure and lacked confidence ?
Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we are returning again in March with a All Inclusive deal again booked straight from the hotel who offer a discount to returning customers who book direct (this option has saved us £35 from the cheapest on line deal).

This hotel will be fab when the newish(2 years) owners get to grips with making sure the food is hotter. the place has it all but no entertainment etc was on while we were there...this is apparently because this is the first time they have been open during the winter. there is a good space for outside entertainment and a bar but as other reviewers said it would be nice to have somewhere to sit in evening where you could talk etc. there are games rooms etc there and a kids club which must be on in the high season. the area is very quiet..there is nowhere to go and nothing to do...once you've waled into the village thats it...this suited us but be aware there is only a handful of small bars in the village and a small cafe on the beach...thats it! we would not give it a bad review the place or the hotel..it is what it is...real,canarian,quiet and unspoilt. the owners were working all the time and it was obvious by the workmen dotted around they are making improvements. for the money if you want quiet and don't mind bunging your dinner in the micro...go for it..we don't regret it.

Room Tip: we overlooked the pool but you can get a room that opens straight onto the terrace if you ask.

We tried Cotillo sunset after coming here some time ago , however Sunset was soooo awful that we finished our holidays here. Happy to tell that the hotel has greatly improved since last time, and as we said, new bar is great place to have a drink and chill after dinner. food improved also from last time, and so did the staff, friendly and very very clean. A pleasure to stay, we will return for sure.

Room Tip: I love see views form this hotel

Seems to me this was a condo that went bankrupt and they opened it as "hotel" but believe me it is not . Really awful stay, will never in my mind go back, we wanted to try it after we stayed at Cotillo Beach last year, but we definetly will go back to the Cotillo Beach, by the way the have opened a new bar over there called terraza or something like that which is a nice play to spend the evening. Omar, you will never see us again.

Stayed here with my wife for 7 days in December for her birthday on an all inclusive basis.
The Good
Staff are great from check in to check out everyone had a smile and were more than happy to help. The hotel it's self is on two levels, ground and first and was cleaned daily from reception to our room which was cleaned every other day. Reception has free wifi which you can also pick up as I did by the pool which is a nice open area with plenty of sun beds and space so your not on top of other guests. The terrace bar is great to for catching up with people on an evening and a real plus point of the hotel. El Cortillo is quiet fishing port and that's exactly what we wanted a quiet chilled out holiday, if you want lots of bars shops etc choose another resort, it has several bars and numerous restaurants, see my other reviews for eating out (reasons for this coming up in the bad). The beaches are a very short walk from the hotel and are stunning, paid a visit to them daily, as expected there are a few nudists so no shocks there as this had been mentioned in previous reviews.
The bad
Food. It's been mentioned in previous reviews so I won't go on about it too much, it is look warm at best, when a chef brings out fresh food without the need to protect his hands from the heat of the tray it's been carried in you know your putting it in the microwave, hot plates and hot food are a must for this hotel, some investment in this area and your back on to a winner. Due to the poor food we ate out 5 times in the 7 days we spent here, which to be honest was a good thing as we got to try the various restaurants in town.
All in all if your going all inclusive here you will get your money's worth from the all inclusive drinks not the food so take a bit extra and try the great restaurants this little resort has to offer.
Would I go back, no. It's a shame a nice hotel let down by poor, cold food.
