“Nirvana in Valor in the Alpujarras”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2010

Forget the 'Costa's', this delightful area of Southern Spain (the Alpujarras) on the Southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada is the 'real Spain'. Real and friendly people, real and friendly shops and bars, with no hassle, mass tourism is just not recognised here!
Fabulous area for keen, and not so keen walkers, of all ages and abilities. We walked, accompanied by our excellent host and guide, David, in rain, (warm rain), and brilliant sunshine, over wide and varied landscapes. Thoroughly enjoyable, and we always looked forward to returning each day to 'Los Arcos', where Jill (and David) made sure we were 'well fed and watered'. I can add no further comments to the excellent hospitality of this couple, very well documented in previous reviews, suffice it to say, if there was a 'six star' category for B&B's in this area of Spain for food, drinks, and comfortable accommodation, in a wonderfully relaxed and friendly atmosphere, 'Los Arcos' would most definitely be pinning them to their front door!!
The roof terrace is an added bonus, and the complimentary mini (maxi?) bar on the way out to the roof, certainly makes the incredible views even more enjoyable!!
The local market even comes to your front door once a week, and sets up in the Church square opposite.
We were recommended to this 'home from home', and would unhesitatingly add our own recommendations to those looking for a peaceful, and relaxing stay, in a most beautiful and scenic area of Southern Spain.

We stayed for 5 days with friends. The accommodation is spacious and immaculate, the beds comfy and the atmosphere welcoming. The roof terrace is perfect for evenings and gives excellent views of the village square and the surrounding countryside. Jill's cooking is 5* standard, and we are fussy. David is a thoughtful and well informed walking guide who also shuttled us to and from the airport and to Alhambra. They are a kind and gracious couple who know their business and provide first class value.

We really enjoyed our 3 day stay at Los Arcos, a great way to finish a week long trip through Andalucia. Beautiful mountain scenery and a great roof terrace to relax on after a long days' walking. We were drawn to stay here by other tripadvisor reviews and were not at all disappointed. High expectations were met and exceeded, and Jill and David were perfect hosts. Really could not have been better - the absolute highlight of our trip.

If you are planning a walking holiday in Andalucia we cannot recommend this place highly enough. This is our fourth stay at Los Arcos in the picturesque village of Valor in the mountains of Andalucia. Jill and David Drummie run this small hotel/guest house and have made us feel very at home every time we have stayed there. David is very knowledgable on the area and took us out daily, sometimes walking from Valor, other times taking us out by car to a different area to walk. We began our walks after a fantastic breakfast and arrived back at Valor mid-afternoon to enjoy Jill's home-made cakes and tea on the roof terrace with fantastic views, where we relaxed with our books and soaked up the late afternoon sunshine. The evening meals are excellent and all very delicious. She has catered for a vegetarian friend in the past and nothing is too much trouble for her. The accommodation is spotlessly clean with large comfortable bedrooms with beautiful en-suites. We were lucky enough to have a private patio area adjoining our room. All in all a fantastic value-for-money holiday with wonderful walks and excellent food & drink. What more could you want on holiday! Jill and David are the perfect host and hostess.

Jill and David made us feel welcome at once at their wonderful bed & breakfast in La Alpujarras. They took care of us while giving us a sense of great privacy at the same time. We also had a very romantic dinner together where all of the sudden David changed into a sommelier and waiter and Jill did a superb job as the chef de la cuisine. We almost ate our fingers too.
The next time we will visit Andalucia (hopefully soon) Granada, Malaga, Cordoba or even Valor again, we will certainly stay with them again.

Once again we stayed with David and Jill who are the superb hosts of Los Arcos. Staying here is 5 star hospitality. we had to thake the long drive up from Malaga as there were no flights to Granada and Almeria this winter from northern airports but, on arrival after a 3hr. plus drive "mine hosts" D & J smoothed the faitigue away with there excellent company and attention to detail.
The food is superb and the baked orange is to die for.

We stayed at the Balcon De Europa in Nerja 2 nights later and although the hotel is 4 star, I'm afrain if I had to choose between Los Arcos or the Balcon then Los Arcos would win hands down. the Balcon Chef could do with a few lessons from Jill at Los Arcos

Hopefully will be back again next year

We were looked after so well - it felt more like a 5 star hotel. The evening meal was superb as was breakfast. Our room was immaculate and comfortable with hot water always available. It was also very cosy - a must in wet Spain in February. Jill and Dave were great hosts. Thank you
