“Fab place for a relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

We wanted a relaxing short break from the UK and La Casa Francesa was perfect. The village of Valor is pretty and tranquil with a fair number of bars and restaurants and a couple of small supermarkets but if you need to do a more substantial shop the local town of Ujigar is just a short drive away. The property is a house and on the ground floor there is a main bedroom and a shower room and then upstairs on the first floor there’s another room which has a sofa bed and can be used as a second bedroom so the house could quite comfortably sleep 4. There’s another living room with TV/DVD player and iPod dock and a compact and well-equipped kitchen - we quite happily managed to produce a 3 course meal for 4 on one of our evenings there. The main course was local fish bought from the fish man who visits the little village at lunchtime daily (other than Sundays and Mondays) – Des and Mary, the owners (and the people responsible for carrying out the restoration of the property), gave us the lowdown about this and provided plenty of other helpful info during our stay. On the second floor the property also has a lovely roof top terrace with plenty of space for eating and sunbathing. We had use of the swimming pool behind the other property belonging to the same owners which is just across the lane plus there is a big municipal pool just a few minutes stroll up the hill with the added highlight of a friendly poolside bar/café where they serve great tapas. Valor is about 1.5 hours from Almeria airport and well located as a base for exploring the whole area. During our week, as well as plenty of r’n’r in Valor, we made trips to the coast and also to Granada, the highlight of which was a visit to the amazing Alhambra palace. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, it was terrific value and give La Casa Francesa 5 stars all round!

Staying at the begining of January can turn up some Spanish surprises in the weather. This little place sheilds one from them all. It is beautifully renovated and very cosy when the wind is howling outside. However when the sun shone I was on the terrace with my glass of wine watching the almond blossom.
The views are uninterrupted towards the Med and the village offers a number of bars, most serving tapas. So the local market full of fresh veg etc and the well equipped kitchen probably won't see much action. Except perhaps for the fresh eggs for breakfast from the owners.

Tucked away in the quietest part of the prettiest village in the Alpujarras, La Casa Francesa and La Casita Galesa offer a great base to explore the surrounding area, there are some great walks, or you can chill out with a glass of local wine whilst enjoying the fantastic scenery and the Red Rumped Swallows and Bee-eaters circling overhead. Having stayed in both properties they offer all mod cons although most of your time will be spent on the terraces soaking up the silence and the views. A great place to unwind and dream of a permanent life in rural Spain.

La Casa Francesa is located in the most beautiful part of Vàlor, at the outskirts of the village, overlooking stunning scenery. We stayed in La Casita Galesa, a charming little house that offers all the comfort you need (washing machine, double fridge, comfortable beds, ...). The most spectacular about any house in the area is the roof terrace where you can enjoy the magnificent views of rural spanish life.
The village offers several bars were you can have dinner as well and two small grocery shops.
The hosts are very friendly and a they make you feel very welcome at their house.
We loved it !!
