“A long awaited great pub in the Village!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

What refreshing new-comers the latest (and hopefully long-lasting!) landlords are.
James and Tim provide a wonderful welcome at The Catherine Wheel - they put so much energy and enthusiam into running it that you just want to wish them success.
Not only are they charming but they also know about food - the chef is fantastic - tasty, unpretentious food at a great price. The staff and chef are so flexible and will really help with dietary needs etc - nothing is too much of a problem here. All the staff are efficient and friendly and seem genuinely happy to be working !
The menu has a varied selection that would appeal to all - the pub 'classics' - burgers, steak pie, fish pie are homemade and delicious.(highly rated by my teenagers!) Racks of lamb and pork chops are beautifully cooked and well presented. Desserts such as creme brulee are to die for. There are brilliant bar snacks - smaller pies, cauli cheese amoungst others - all so warming and actually just what you want! They even do a great mid-week roast at a very reasonable price (why bother cooking?!) Actually I'm saying no more - it will get SO busy ... there might not be room for me!!!

“What a great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Never visited before. Landlords exceptionally friendly and very attentive. Food was excellent. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon, Could not believe how busy it was and for how long ... as it was past 5pm before the lunchtime calmed down! Highly recoommend this charming pub and intend to visit again. Village and surrounding area is very pretty.

“If you are looking for a great welcome, atmosphere and fantastic food this is the pub for you.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We were a party of ten, surrounded by many other happy customers in groups, couples and families. Our group had a variety of allergy sufferers, but rather than the usual restaurant compromise, hosts James and Tim had already taken everyone into account on the menu with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options (all just as tempting and tasty as anything else available). Despite it being a packed Sunday afternoon (with many of the well healed locals which is always validating) we were quickly seated and served. A truly lovely experience and worth a drive if you aren't close. Beautiful village, worth a walk afterwards (dogs are also welcome in the pub so bring your furry family too). Five star!

“A real gem - highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Loved my visit to The Catherine Wheel just before Christmas. It was cozy with an open fire, offered really scrummy food, had a great atmosphere, and my friend and I received a warm and friendly welcome from the landlords. If I lived in Goring I think I'd be propping up the bar on a very regular basis! I'm really looking back to future visits, both for the cozy fireplace in the colder season, but also for the lovely garden in the summer.

“The scotch egg genuinely blew my socks off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Word spread that this place was worth a visit, so we headed out there for lunch with the family from Clapham and it was 100% worth it. I've never been a real train timetable enthusiast so factoring in a whole load of faffing about, we still got there in less than 90 minutes; it's but a stroll from the station at the far end. We were served quickly and efficiently by a charming couple who run the place and the home made scotch eggs genuinely blew my socks off. There was all the charm of a classic country pub, food, drink and secret door ways, and the festive decor (it was December) was a treat. Mum and Dad, both in their 60s enjoyed it and were made to feel welcome as were the rest of us in our 20s & 30s. Even the dog had a good time. Very rare to have a pub with such universal appeal. Will be sure to return soon.
