“The perfect escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We were in Queensland for a special function and stayed at Secrets on the Lake. Unfortunately we were only there for a night which is nowhere near enough time to enjoy the many, many delights of this place. We stayed in the Platypus suite, our room was spacious with the most amazing views over the lake, we were completely isolated from the other guests. We were provided with our choice of a complimentary bottle of wine or champagne, also a breakfast basket including fresh fruit, also a scones, jam and cream on arrival.

Everywhere you look in the suite you find different carvings or beautiful stained glass windows. It is truly unique.

I would love to go back and spend many hours just sitting on the deck in the amazing wooden swinging chair looking at the view.

We will definitely return one day.

Thanks again to George who couldn't do enough for our party.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

My husband and I stayed two nights in Two Frogs Treehouse. The location is beautiful and the set up of the treehouses is gorgeous - I felt like I was walking through a movie set! The grounds are immaculate - beautiful lake with canoes you could take out, and lots of seating to sit and enjoy the grounds.
Our check in was fine, we received our basket of breakfast goods which included a bottle of champagne. As non-drinkers, would've been nice to have something else available. I was a bit disappointed not to have some bacon, I had been looking forward to bacon and eggs!! We ended up going out for breakfast on the second morning.
The treehouse itself was lovely, lots of timber carvings and the outlook was stunning. The swing on the verandah was lovely.
On our second night we had a BBQ basket which was yummy - steak and sausages, salads, bread, potatoes and sticky date pudding. We felt this was good value but would've preferred if it could've been delivered rather than us going to pick it up.
The rest of this review I write based on the fact we paid $375 per night, which I think is fairly high. I've only paid that a few times in my life and expect a premium product for a premium price. Firstly, the old orange/brown towels in the bathroom really need replacing. There were pulled threads all over them and being the colour they were they disguise dirt well. Which was unfortunate when I went to use the face washer and there was a false eyelash stuck to it. On a white towel this more than likely would've been seen.
Also in the bathroom, the pump bottles of lotion and soap were very old. There is a note in the compendium that they reuse the bottles - this was very obvious. The labels were taped on with sticky tape and the pumps themselves looked dirty. The shampoo/conditioner and soap in the shower are in dispensers which felt a bit like a motel bathroom. I expect L'occitane or Molton Brown when I'm paying this price.
The shower screen was mouldy/soap scummy and could do with either a good clean or replacing.
There was a lot of noise from the treehouse next door to us who had the kids playing on their verandah, then being woken up at 5am by birds and the light coming in through various windows which didn't have blinds, we didn't really get the relaxing weekend we were thinking we would.
Compared to Spicers accommodations up the road for not much more money, Secrets didn't hit the mark for us.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We always aim to correct any problems as soon as possible but we need to know straight away so we can amend them for you.
We always have non-alcoholic options (as well as catering for vegetarians and gluten free, dairy free etc) but need to know before you check in or while you are checking in, just ask if you would like bacon. With the noise issue, this is unusual, if you would have mentioned it to a member of the Secrets team, we would have rectified it immediately.
We are glad you enjoyed the BBQ hamper and yes we are reviewing whether we should start delivering to the rooms as when you check in, it's nice not to have to move again (and special to get everything at your door.)
Our water contains some manganese which sometimes gives the appearance of a cloudy effect on glass. We can assure you that the glass is clean but we also replace the shower glass every 3 years. In the penthouse cabins, we have eliminated this problems by designing walk-in showers with no glass.
Two Frogs has many blinds on the windows and the skylight which could have been closed up so you could have a relaxing sleep-in.
Your feedback has been taken on board and helps us to improve our service to our guests.

We adored our stay at secrets in the whistle stop cottage! It was so warm and inviting and we loved the comfortable bed. Our daughter enjoyed the lovely lawn to run and play and we all loved dining in the forest gazebo with the spa and possums! We booked a package with meals and felt very spoiled when they arrived each day. The pumpkin soup was one of the best I have ever tasted and I emailed later for the recipe. The service was warm and friendly and we always felt welcome and like part of the family.

My only complain is that the 'secrets' is not so secret any more and we can never get a booking! lol, but that's hardly a bad thing! We hope to get the chance to visit again soon :)

Thank you for staying at the Whistlestop, a great alternative for a family as you don't have to worry about the kids making noise as you are all tucked away on your own.... the foot bridge from the carpark is so special and the lawn and gardens are unique to Whistlestop. The cottage is charming and snug, such a different experience to the treehouses.

Having planned a family holiday on the Sunshine Coast 3 nites in Montville at Secrets and 3 nites at Noosa with our two daughters(11 & 14 yrs) my wife and I were concerned as to how the girls would go at in Montville with things to do. Can I tell you that now we are home the girls were just raving about Secrets and how wonderful it was. George the owner, his wife and extended family just made our stay absolutely perfect from the picture perfect chalet "The Nest", the gorgeous gardens and boardwalks, kayaking on Lake Baroon, freshly baked croissants every morning, BBQ dinners on our balcony (complete with mischievous Kookaburra's), Wow what a slice of paradise.
The layout of the Nest was brilliant and huge with two doubles upstairs and a separate double downstairs. Whilst it wasn't that cold we couldn't resist lighting the wood fire every evening before relaxing in the heated spa on the balcony and listening to the native bird chatter. When we arrived George asked us to pick out a complimentary bottle of wine ( so nice to choose ) whilst the room was already stocked with fresh fruits, local cheeses and yoghurts, country style bread etc. The thing that blew me away was the amazing craftsmanship that has gone into the building of Secrets. Everywhere you turned be it the silver frog set in resin in the floor of our chalet, the incredible carved animals on the boardwalks or the "to die for" gardens and ponds there was another surprise around the corner. Very quickly we realised that this isn't a "business" in the clinical sense of the word. When you look at the love and care that has gone into this place and the genuine hospitality from all the staff you get the sense that this is more of a vocation that allowed us to have a truly memorable vacation.

Room Tip: The Nest has three double beds and sits up on the hill above the main reception lodge. Its easily ac...

Thank you for staying with us in the Nest. We built the Nest especially for guests like yourselves with a family who still want to experience staying at Secrets which was originally built as a couples escape. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I did not stay here but I had Afternoon Tea at the Cafe on the veranda amongst the tall gums overlooking Lake Baroon.

It was relaxing to escape the tourist crowds of Montville. They serve Devonshire Tea, Light Lunch 9am - 4pm or Breakfast on Sundays 8.30 - 11am It is wise to book.

There is ample parking and it is also worth wandering down to the lake.

The Gallery & Woodwork within Secrets on the Lake is AMAZING. Some people are so clever. The supremely crafted doors, shelves, tables, chairs reflect he environment of the Blackall Range. Thank you to the Artists.

Everything was perfect! From the Staff to the accommodation to the wonderful wildlife that came to visit. The decor was awe inspiring and the warm muffins delivered to our front door every morning was a delight, as was the unexpected Champagne Breakfast Hamper that was given to us on day one. This is the best place we have ever stayed, and we are recommending it to everyone.

Room Tip: Lizards Lair was brilliant. I don't know about the other cabins, but I have no doubt whatever ca...
