“Peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Basically we came in to Palau "back packing" style, no plans, apart from diving, and headed straight for Alona beach from the Tagbilaren ferry port (about 10km and PHP 200-300 on a trike, more by car), and Alona beach is ok, but not if you don't like being asked for massage / trip / souvenirs about 10 times every 100 metres. So I grabbed a motor bike hire and went searching for somewhere quieter, headed south - Danao beach. There are a number of more expensive places about (Linaw, Dive Stop, Blue Water) but for the money Tropical Villas is excellent. Very quiet in November, we had the place practically to ourselves, and right on the beach (unlike Blue Water).
Downsides are only that the staff seem a little out of practice (too few people ??) but always eager to help, and the blissful calm and quiet might come off as desolate and backwater to some - but we loved it. The beach is good, but the waters suffer from seaweed. These issues are not worthy to down grade below 5/5.

It almost felt cheeky, but you can stay here and walk the 50m further south to enjoy a stroll-up, table-on-the-beach romantic dinner setting at Linaw next door with the added feeling of tropical island explorers just happening upon the fantastic beach-setting dining room (and stay for after-dinner drinks at their bar too before sneaking off to your 1/3 price room next door).

Room Tip: room 6 is part of the group of "semi traditional" huts right next to the beach

I am currently writing this review while waiting for my breakfast. We, family of 2 couples are staying here for 3days 2 nights. We arrive yesterday afternoon and was picked up by George, the driver and Lisa greeted us at the reception. James is the bartender/chef, so it's takes a while for food to be prepared. Tips: Order your food half an hour before you plan to eat.

We are staying in the La Sophia.

First impression, when we walked from the reception towards our rooms, love the landscaping. As my dad and myself are nature lovers...we enjoy the flora surroundings. Pool and jacuzzi looks inviting.

Room is clean, basic with TV (satellite channels), King size bed and a decent toilet. Ok, sound serious issues, very low water pressure, no two rooms can shower at the same time. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner, as they only provide a soap and tiny sachet of shampoo. Enough for short hair. Air con is not very cool..... Perhaps underpowered for a decent medium/large room.
However the positive side is staffs are very friendly and accommodating. They try their very best to make your stay comfortable. Their pillows are too flat, time for some upgrade. Had a bit of backache from the hard mattress. Suitable for those who like it hard, but I like mine with more cushioning.

Jacuzzi is a bit cold and low pressure. I really think they need to sort out the water pressure issue. This villas are own by a family business.....most of the staffs are blood related.

As this is a low density boutique hotel (my classification), I guest it's a bit hard for them to renovate and upgrade. Good news to previous guest who have stayed here, Villa Kiam is on renovation now. I can see them making new furniture outside the balcony so there is improvement in the process.

Also there is free wifi now ;)

Overall, I would say, if you love nature and plan to spend more time outside, the hotel us very suitable especially those who needs a break from hectic city life. Not recommended for honeymoon though.

We stayed at Panglao Tropical Villas for 4 days and 3 nights in mid September. We booked the villa near the swimming pool "VILLA VIDAS". I have 2 boys ages 10 and 12 yrs old who love to swim. The Villa is very close to the pool, thats why our boys loved it.The staff are friendly and they are always there everytime we need something.we also did island hopping on our second day and we loved balicasag island and virgin island as well.on our 3 day we did a countryside tour.my family enjoyed it so much and our driver 'George" was a very good tour guide.we would like to visit Bohol again next year and we will definitely stay at Panglao Tropical Villas again.I highly recommend this place to my friends who would like to stay in a villa.

Room Tip: villas are excellent accomodation for family..we want to try villa kiam next time, its bigger.i highl...

We were a large group, taking the Kiam villa and 3 others spending a week in this wonderful island.

First the positives, and there were so many that I may forget some. The beach is next to the villas, with an amazing view from the bar/pool area. The pool and outdoor jacuzzi were really good specially for our group to spend time together. The bar is very reasonably priced and the food is ok - above average for the places we tried in the island.

There is a small shop with everything you may need just outside the villas complex, but there is a shop inside too. The staff seem to live in, so there is always people at hand when you need them.

The villas are large and all the rooms are air conditioned, althought the A/C did not work in the Living room of the Kiam villa.

We had a problem in one of the rooms - a bird had nested on the false ceiling and was quite active at night. The staff did not manage to get rid of it and the people on that room had trouble sleeping.

Overall the place was not the cleanest, but it was cleaned everyday, most of the utensiles were broken, not enough glassess, not enough cutlery, beds and linen not the most comfortable.

When you are staying in paradise, and this is it by all accounts, you can forgive that not everything is kept in good working order. Hospitality is amazing, not only in the villas, but in the whole Panglao island - every child, youngster and adult we saw smiled and said hello or waived to us.

It is worth doing the tours to Balicasag and Pungtud, Chocolate Hills (for the adrenaline junkies you can fit a zip line valley crossing on the way!) and as it is to enjoy Alona beach - the most touristic place of the island, with banks, shops and restaurant (only 30 minutes walk or PHP300 and 5 minutes away if you don't fancy the walk in the sun). If you go to Alona, enjoy the famous beach massage, either by the ladies in blue overalls or at the beach of the Hotel at the end of the beach, where you can rent loungers in the beach if you have lunch with them (which is recommended)

As I said, Panglao is paradise on Earth and it has not been discovered yet by the big boys, so you get the real local people looking after you - and happy to do so.

Good location, nice swimming pool, but but but the house (villas vidas) is very old. General renovation is very much needed (see pictures)... The rent is too expensive for the type of villas ( air conditioner are hold by tape, dirty bathrooms and old kitchen). Not to mention the beds... Too soft and cheap mattresses - the result : back pain!!!!

We enjoyed our week stay at Villa Vida.... the crew were all nice and accommodating, special mention to George, the van driver; the bartenders- james and the girls (i didnt got their names); Manong, the pool cleaner (who made sure the pool is clean from dawn to midnight); Manong, the housekeeper, our boatman (snorkling at Balicasag) and Liza of the front desk.
You all made our vacation unforgetable!
Few things for improvement:
1. Provide place for hang-ons (sampayan)
2. Mirror for each room
3. WiFi
4. Have the jacuzzi warmed

We stayed here as a big party of friends and family, so pretty much booked up the whole resort (4/5 villas). We were in Villa Sophia, and our room was clean and spacious with air con. Nice swimming pools, well tended 'gardens' and good beach spot, although the sea was too shallow to do much swimming - you would have to go quite far out, past the seaweed to get much past knee depth. The resort is on a peaceful section of the beach, away from the chaos of the main tourist drag.
The restaurant is the resort's biggest let down. Food took absolutely ages to arrive, although when it did, it was generally pretty good. They neglected to tell us that breakfast was included with Villa Sophia (the only villa I think to not have its own kitchen). There are other resorts along the sea front for food alternatives. Wi-fi only available near the front desk.
