“Elegance and value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2010

Originally we were booked into the Hotel Pollensa with a standard double room, next door but that was closing and we were upgraded to a sea view room at the Uyal. Immediately noticed the professionalism of both receptions at these Hotels and very impressed with first impressions of the architecture and style of the main building. We were given a third floor room in the main building (not annexe that was closed) with a massive balcony with stunning views of the sea and the hillside behind. Room was simple, however it was clean, plenty of cupboard space and ample size bathroom.
The dining area was impeccably kept and the staff were always on hand to assist. Great breakfast selection with cereals, many different bread types, cold meats and hot English style breakfast and lovely coffee. Evening meal also could not be faulted with a super selection starting with soups, salad, cold meats, numerous hot dishes and deserts. Great selection of wine and house wine came in at 8.95 euros, so not bad at all. Attention by the courteous and polite staff could not be faulted and Pepe, the head waiter always met you with a welcoming smile.
Bar facilities and seating area were very good. Good size swimming pool with a seperate kids section. Tennis court right next door as well.
Location wise, it was 15 minutes walk into Puerto Pollensa. Great bus service to almost anywhere. We loved Pollensa old town, just 10 minutes on the bus (2.10 euros return) and Palma was just over an hour away (10.10 euros return), we don't recommend Inca for shopping unless you go market day as there is pretty much nothing to do there. Both Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa have their own market days. Pollensa church for Sunday mass is absolutely stunning.
Just fall out the hotel front door and you are on the beach, perfect. Lovely soft golden sand, gently shelving into the sea and was crystal clear. Was cool, in late October.
So based on the price we paid and the service we received, the Uyal is perfect. Suitable for any age group unless you like loud music and then this resort is not for you. Would definitely return.

We stayed here for an early summer break and overall had a good time. Staff very friendly, especially the restaurant and food was good quality with plenty of variety. Particularly enjoyed the veranda bar and spent some very pleasant evenings there without needing to walk into town. the beach is near and we found a spot close by with shade under the trees, bar close by. The hotel rents cycles which was great, we rented for a couple of days, very good value and we managed to get around to some other beaches easily, such as Cala San Vincente. We spent a very pleasant time and the unpretentious nature of this hotel added to a very relaxing few days!
Recomend you book a room in the main hotel as the annex has less character and is a short walk away. Enjoy!

We arrived at the Uyal around lunch time. We were the only two people to get off our bus. We had seen some of the other hotels where we dropped other people off and ours definitely looked the nicest! We were very pleased when we were given our room key as our room was in the main building and not the annex. Our room was bigger than we expected with a fairly big bathroom. There was a big wardrobe and a chest of drawers, with a small table between the beds. We were in room 159 and could not have asked for a better room. Our balcony, which had a table and two chairs, was just above the bar and had a beautiful view of the beach. We also saw the sun rising one morning. The choice of food at breakfast was very good but a bit more limited in the evening as we are quite fussy eaters! But we always managed to find something. A bottle of water was 2.50 euros and if you didn’t finish it, the waiters saved it for the following evening. We found an Italian restaurant two minutes down the road where we ate at twice, which had lovely food. We were even given two free shots each on our second visit! The staff were all very friendly, in particular Miguel and Paco! The ice cream at the hotel was delicious. The pool wasn’t huge but as it was fairly quiet this was not a problem, however we spent most of our time on the beach right opposite the hotel. Two sun loungers and a parasol were 11 euros. The beach was lovely and never too crowded. We found a nice baguette shop along the walk towards the port which I think was called Pins. Very tasty and quite cheap. Much nicer than spar sandwiches! We only saw our Thomas Cook rep at our welcome talk and last day so could not book any trips with her, so we booked the Island Tour with No Frills Excursions which was fantastic. Our guide Juan was funny and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend. We also took the ferry to Formentor which was nice, although was very expensive to buy lunch and I was stung by a jelly fish! There is a market held every week in the town which is worth going to. It’s about a 10 – 15 minute walk to the port near where the market is held. There was entertainment in the hotel about three or four times, most of which we enjoyed. Although we were the only young people staying at the hotel, 19 and 22, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.

The brass plate in the entrance to the hotel, Hotel Uyal 1954, perfectly sums up the aura of the main building. But old photographs from that era in the public areas show that there has been some refurbishment over the years. It is certainly not one of those faceless and soul-less skyscraper monstrosities such as can be found in nearby Alcudia.

The hotel is ideally placed for a beach holiday being situated across the road from the sands. The road is not unduly busy and certainly presents no noise problems at night.

As noticed from another review we also stayed in room 162. It is simply furnished but adequate unless you intend to stay in it all day as well as all night. Two large cupboards form the wardrobes, there is a chest of drawers upon which sits a modern flat screen TV providing German, Spanish and a surprisingly large number of English channels for a continental hotel. A bedside cabinet between the twin beds completes the furniture. The bathroom is modern and the room overall was well serviced and kept very clean. The room’s large and spacious balcony is set in a corner but we were not bothered by overlooking neighbours..

Accommodation was half board with good breakfast menus ranging from Continental to a variety of Full English (if you enjoy Spanish bacon and Spanish sausages, etc!). The eggs were good and some interesting combinations of fried, hard-boiled or scrambled, with cold meats and a slice of cheese could be assembled, in contrast to my wife’s choice of croissants and fresh rolls, doughnuts and fruit. Cereals were also on offer.

The evening menus were varied and of a very high standard and in general the food could not be faulted.

The walk into town is flat and level and easily achievable by most holidaymakers, even those with moderate mobility problems as there are numerous seats available at intervals along the way.

The house staff were always polite and helpful and the restaurant staff attentive without being overly obtrusive.

All in all we enjoyed a good stay at the hotel. Unfortunately we can not praise Thomas Cook's cattle class flights similarly.

This hotel is geared specifically for older clients who return year on year, and although that's not a bad thing, for the ongoing finances of the hotel it also means that the hotel doesn't have to try to please too hard. The reception staff are excellent, helpful cheerful and ready to please, the overall cleanliness cannot be faulted and the location is ideal, just across the road from the beach, all be it right at the other end of town so walks to and up the Pine Walk may prove a tad too far. That's the good bit.. as customers come back year on year they are able to build up a relationship with the waiting staff, we however found the 2 elder waiters gruff and quite rude, not even a good morning while they clear your allocated table, and so quiet, everyone speaks in hushed tones.. .the breakfast is ok but we ate out evenings as the menu left a lot to be desired. Our room 162, was large enough but basic and being on the side of the building, the balcony, situated between 161 and 163 afforded no privacy at all, in fact when the occupants of 161 sat out they could see right into our room, and my husband lying on his bed so we were not able to open the shutters and doors unless they were out! The room was also very dark so we had to always have the light on and we could hear the toilet flushing and shower taking in the other rooms so not ideal. This is quite an old building so don't think anything can be done to improve, the interior, and if you are 60 plus you will be at home, I just don't think that UYAL offers value for money when there are 3 and 4* accomodation just up the road in Alcudia for the same price, offering a far better fresher menu, more comfortable rooms and staff that make you feel you belong there.

We had a tip to stay at the Hotel Uyal and was not disappointed. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the sea and a nice, spacious room. The location of the hotel was ideal, being a stones throw from the beach and a nice distance to walk to the harbour and town area. The staff were all lovely and couldnt do enough for you. The food was top notch and offered a good variety. The only negative i can think of is there was only one plug socket in the bedroom, which was also plugged into the tv, but that is a minor thing. Absolutely wonderful holiday and would definately stay there again!

Stayed at the Uyal 26th - 3rd October. We had a junior suite which was excellent - fabulous views over the bay. The hotel and staff were excellent, one of the best holidays we have had and therefore hope to return next year.
