This was my first time at the Illa D'or despite my family coming year after year. Upon arrival i was speedily taken to my room which was recently refurbished and in a wonderful condition. The bed was large with a rather grand wardrobe! I had a plasma screen, two sinks, a wonderful bathroom and lovely little towel robes to relax in after a shower. Breakfast was lovely with a vast amount to chose from and it catered for everyone. I ate in the hotel restaurant twice and found the food very nice but being a fussy eater did sometimes struggle but that is through my own personal food issues (you couldn't blame the hard working chef's!). The waiters will do anything and everything for you and are always on hand! Drinks are a little pricey but so is the hotel - you defiantly pay for the standard and this hotel should be 5*! You can hire bikes from the hotel and we did so and cycled all the way round to Alcudia and back. We also hired a boat (having three members of my party with boat licenses) and we spent a luxurious day on that. The town is a 5-10 minute walk and it consists of pedalo hire (very fun), many bars and restaurants and a local spar shop in which you can buy home-made baguettes and food which are delicious. Through the hotel you have your own private sun terrace in which sunbeds are released at 9am and you have a lovely, quiet and not too crowded view all day! The hotel also has a pool which isn't very big (mainly the reason it is rarely used) but is okay if you wanted to cool down when not in the sea. The sea water is lovely and warm and for a non-lover of sea water, I was always perfectly comfortable in it as it is extremely clear and not very deep for a while out! (Great for kids). The hotel also has a gym, indoor pool and jacuzzi, salon and beauty spa. I did not use these facilities but i'm sure they are up to the Illa D'or standard. Some restaurants and bars i suggest in town are: Dakota's tex mex (the food is delectable), The lemon bar (picturesque and a lovely atmosphere) Bony's bar (quirky and entertaining) The indian tucked away behind the back streets! (hidden but well worth the find, amazing food!!) and finally chiva's for the over 18's (an excellent nightclub!). The hotel is about a 45 minute taxi ride from Palma airport. This hotel is a wonderfully run and well looked after luxurious place to go. Great for all ages and those who like to relax and take things gently.
