“Lovely Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2010

We have recently returned from another visit to the Playa Mar (kids 12 and 9). Once again we had a great time, and like most people who visit P Pollensa, never tire of how lovely a place it is.

Would agree with the issues about the sunbeds, although not as bad as 4am! On average I would wander down about 7am when I woke and got beds OK, but would prefer it to have been later in the morning. Clearly some abuse it more than others.

Generally found the entertainment OK, some good evening shows although we did stay in town some nights rather than hurry back after eating in one of the many lovely restaurants in town (have never eaten in the restaurant in 4 visits, seems a pity to with so many good places to eat). Snack bare is good vale for lunches. Surprised when people refer to Butlins abroad as not quite sure what people expect from a Thomson Family hotel. If you expect peace and quiet all day I would suggest you go to a place without day time entertainment. Kids entertainers were very attentive and energetic.

The walk into town is wonderful, very relaxing, about 20 mins, although appreciate it is not so easy with younger kids (did this years ago with ours). Totally pedestrianised, right next to the sea and small beaches.

I know they are making a lot of changes for next year so (moving stage, extra pool, more space, spa etc I understand).

Recommend shopping in Eroski supermarket as MUCH cheaper than elsewhere. If you do not have a car can walk to the one in town, stock up and get a taxi back for 5 or 6 euros.

On arriving at this place we were told are room was not ready. When we did go it was an apartment block and there was no hotelat all .The room was not to our standard but we were refused a move. The dining room was o.k. and the food was of a reasonable standard. The sunbed situation was very poor and very over-crowded and to secure a bed you had to be up by 4 a.m. this did not make for a relaxing holiday and we were glad to leave.

This was our first holiday abroad with our children aged 1 and 3 and from reading reviews on here and netmums, we had high hopes. On arrival we were impressed with first impressions of the hotel and its surroundings (stunning mountain backdrop).
After reading on tripadvisor that night time entertainment can be loud, we requested a quiet room on booking. We were pleased to find we had a quiet room which was also on the ground floor. We were not pleased however on day 2 when we awoke to find swimwear had been stolen from our balcony. Thomson reps treated this incident as if it were an every day occurance...which we found out it was! During our holiday we heard many stories from people who had also had things stolen from their balcony or even their room and they were all from same block of rooms and overlooked the back road. There is NO security at this 4star hotel. In the end we wasted a whole day filling in forms and visiting the local police station. Thomson should surely be working with the hotel management on crime prevention not just dealing with it half heartedly when it does happen.
I have to agree with the ridiculous sunbed situation too. Absolutely no room inbetween sunbeds and not at all relaxing lying next to a near naked stranger!
Entertainment was, as someone has already said 'very Butlins'. The kids reps probably were very good but at the same time very loud and just scared my 3 year old.
We will definitely return to Puerto Pollensa as it really is beautiful and the pine walk was something we did every night; we don't live by the sea so our children loved seeing the boats, throwing stones in the water and soaking up the local atmosphere. We will however choose a different hotel and tour operator next time.

We have recently returned from the Playa Mar having spent two weeks there with our two young children, 4 and 5. On the plus side the hotel staff were lovely, very warm and friendly. The Thompson Reps were brilliant, especially the kids reps who worked incredibly hard and our children loved. Thankyou Sally, Kirsty, Amy, Ben, Rachel and Jess. The kids looked forward to the family clubzone every night, it was lovely to see the reps including everyone so well, they have so much patience and time for the little ones. We also enjoyed the tribute nights, the other evening quiz type things we avoided and walked the beautiful 25 minute walk into P Pollensa to eat...stunning! though our children loved Tots we didn't appreciate rushing back from the beach to sign them up for the next days session,e specially when some selfish people parked their chairs outside the kids club and queued daily an hour or so before sign up opened! Our children didn't get places a couple of times for things they really fancied like the princess themed morning. The sun bed situation was ridiculous, sad people sneaking down in the dead of night to lay their towels over sunbeds...we went down at 8.30 on our first morning only to find no sunbeds available because of reserving them and noone in the pool. The hotel needs to enforce the sunbed rule as it spoilt our holiday and the kids enjoyment of the (lovely) pools. We refused to join the competition and walked to the town beach everyday which was beautiful and the sunbeds weren't side by side like sardines as at the Playa Mar We found the restaurant ok, it had lots of fresh salads and fruit for the kids to choose from and there was always something to choose, good value too. Pollensa is beautiful, we will be back but sadly not to the Playa Mar. It wasn't relaxing, if you want to sleep before Midnight I would strongly advise you to book a room at the back of block one or two, this is where we were and the mountain views wwere stunning.

We booked this accomodation believing it to have hotel rooms as well as appartments, it is clearly appartments only with the add on of a resturant. Staffing seems to be minimal especially maid service, as it only took 5 mins to clean our room and bedding only changed twice during our two week stay. By the pool sunbeds are packed tight and have to be reserved as early as 4am, and stay on them as they will be hijacked if you do not leave the supervised. The resturant food was of good quality but very informal. Evening entertainment was limited with only two caberet nights per week and the rest of the time made up of quizz nights. This accomodation revolves around children day and night with little for adults.

We booked flights independently of Thomson. (As we couldn't get the required flights from our local airport with Thomson and because it saved us a fortune). We had an early morning flight and arrived at the Playa Mar late lunch time, only to be told, we were the last people booking in that day and our room wouldn't be available until 7pm! The people in our room, had booked it for a late checkout. The Thomson rep blamed the Hotel, but the Hotel told us that Thomson only informed them the day before of bookings and that the late room had been booked through Thomson. So our first day was ruined, sitting in the reception waiting around with a bored teenager and a young child was not what we had expected. We were only away for a week and infact lost a day by Thomson's incompetence. Once we got our room, we had a lovely week and did enjoy the hotel and facilities, Though it is quite a walk to Puerto Pollensa itself. Thomson definately need to consider the implications of accepting late checkout rooms in peak season!!
