“Hotel ok..... Port de Pollensa beautiful!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2008

Just got back from Playa Mar last monday. Overall this was a nice holiday, the resort is beautiful so really recommend the location but not so keen on the hotel. Unless of course you don't mind (Butlins style) music until 11.30pm every night??!!

The Hotel itself was ok. Would say it wasn't 4* though, maybe 3*. The pool was nice although VERY overcrowded and quite often no beds.

The room was average. It had a good sized bedroom, good sized lounge area but small kitchen although it had everything you needed. Plus CBeebies on tv for my 1yr old son!! My one concern was that it wasn't clean. We had new towels every other day and the bed made also every other but the floor wasn't cleaned once only swept and not swept properly. The kitchen area was also dirty. The bathroom looked tired, but it all worked with constant hot water. One thing I noticed which was a concern, when I showered I could smell sewage, when i mentioned it to another couple they had smelt this too.

Several people went down sick or with upset stomachs, not sure why this was, we did think maybe it was the pool water, as most of these people didn't eat at the hotel, they ate out??

Some staff lovely, reps lovely but some receptionists a bit unfriendly.

Made a few english friends which was nice!

Location lovely would definately go back there again one day. Pine walk is so nice and very pretty. Many restaurants too. My husband did have his wallet pinched one evening though and then two nights later his expensive sunglasses too which is a shame. Lovely holiday but Playa Mar needs some TLC!!!!

Like the previous review, think we slipped up with this holiday. Hotel is geared solely for families with children, mostly very young. Again, we had hoped that with school holidays over the hotel would be relatively quiet. How wrong we were! Kids everywhere from early in the morning, throughout the evening entertainment until 11 p.m. and then throughout the night with their crying etc.

Staff at the hotel, both the reps and the hotel staff, were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Food was good, with a wide choice - but could have been a bit hotter at times.

Rooms were fine, with most things working and if they weren't, they were very quickly fixed (if only with a bit of prodding!).

A major problem was the reservation of sunbeds around the pool which, according to the hotel management wasn't allowed. By 9 a.m. anything within 20 feet of the pool had been 'reserved', without exception on every single day. Beds, usually in groups of four or more, were 'reserved' but unused until the middle of the afternoon. So many people got so fed up with the situation at the hotel that they then did the same thing at the small beaches alon the Pine Walk into Pollensa itself.

A good holiday spoilt really - for couples it is a definite no-go area.

My wife, 2 year old daughter and I have just returned from a week at the Playa Mar having had a fantastic week in Puerto Pollensa, itself a beautiful resort.

Firstly let me say this... we choose Playa Mar because it is a Family Club Resort... no complaints from here; if you don't like being surrounded by kids or your children having lots of little friends to dance around with then choose a hotel more suitable... you wouldn't go for Chinese at an Indian restaurant.

Onto the essentials:

Room - Well sized, separate bedroom and lounge meant the little one could sleep very easily no matter what time... again if you want the Ritz, pay Ritz prices but the room was clean, well equipped and maids visited what felt like every day which left us very impressed.

Hotel Facilities - Excellent Pool, plenty of loungers when we went, plenty of pool space and lots for the kids and big kids alike; internet access, steam room, suana... if you can get away from the pool!

Staff and Entertainment Team - This is where I feel the Play Mar excelled, and everything is subjective, but the hotel staff were very professional and would go out of there way to help... the ENTERTAINMENT team were out of this world... they didn't stop from morning til dusk, but it is up to you to decide how much you can take in, and they were noticeably genuine in their love of the job... i really cannot speak highly enough of Sparkly Steve (as an early 30 something i never thought i'd say that), and the team... the ratings speak for their self on this... appartently the Playa Mar has been voted 2nd best Thomson Family Club for entertainment and i for one can see why... the Beijing Gymnasts and other professional shows would have been worth paying for anywhere.

Food - I'll start with the snack Bar - great... does what it says on the tin and reasonably priced... only one gripe, the evening buffet not cheap at 18 euros and not very good actually... i wouldn't have wanted to be hald board... but then there is the town and marina......................

Pine Walk.... 15 minutes walk or 5 euros in a taxi.... all i can say is 5 euros is as cheap as anywhere at home and takes 2 minutes.... the walk was done daily as you'd find it hard to tire of the stunning setting... even with a zig zagging 2 year old... what is there to rush for!

Town / Marina - at the end of the walk/taxi ride you are met by an endless choice of restaurants... Pascalino's at 8.5 euros for a starter, main chinese course, beer/wine/soft drink and coffee seemed more than cheap enough to me... and was great quality... having seen Alcudia, if its Burger King you want go there... if its burgers for the kids with a more wide and varied choice for the rest than you really cannot go wrong in Puerto Pollensa.

Beech - see Pine Walk and add in the fact that the beech runs alongside the full stretch with plenty of bars to stop off along the way... Formentora beech was highly recommended and the ferry ride from the harbour was great!

All in all as with any holiday, perceptions can greatly differ but as I say, if you want a Family Holiday, only 2 hours flight from Blighty, with great entertainment in a beautiful resort with warm sunshine and a beachfront location, then Playa Mar ticks all of the boxes for us!

Weve just returned from a 10 day stay at the Playamar. The facilities were excellent, fabulous pool complex, friendly and helpful staff, good sized accommodation but as a couple,I think we made a bit of a mistake because the hotel is totally geared towards families. We booked to go in September because we thought it would be quieter with kids going back to school but we forgot about the pre school kids and their seemed to be hundreds!
The claiming of sunbeds was rIdiculous-if you werent out by 9 am then you could forget it.We ended going to the beach most days but the sunbeds in the little coves on the way into town were often claimed by then too.The Playamar is some way from the town itself but we enjoyed the walk.
Our room was at the back of the complex and was really quiet apart from hearing little ones screaming and crying quite a lot. While we were out on the 12th,there was a flood and the toilet in the room next door exploded, causing raw sewerage and water to pour into our room-luckily for us only a suitcase was lost. The reps were very helpful and offered us to move to another hotel but we couldnt move our belongings that night as we had no suitcase to put them in and we couldnt risk any cross infection by using it-we were told to leave it outside to be collecyed but it was still there when we checked out 4 days later!
Puerto Pollensa was lovely,we ate at some great restaurants,Tribeca being our favourite I think-and its not cheap anymore but then, neither is anywhere else and I think its still good value compared to the UK.
The weather was a bit mixed but it meant we explored a fair bit and theres so much to see.
Its the first time we've travelled with Thomson but we weren't impressed-no rep on the mini bus either to or from the resort which isnt a problem for us as we tend to do our own thing anyway but I would imagine it would be a bit daunting for first time travellers and then we were dropped off at the airport 2 hours before the check in desk was open only to find that the plane was late-4 hours late by the time we took off.
We'll definitely go back at some time but we'd leave the Playamar to the kids.

My family enjoyed the holiday overall but the appartments were not in our opinion a 4 star property. We felt that the appartments could have been much cleaner............ three out of four of us got sick along with many other gests. We had clean towels most days and clean sheets too but the bathroom and kitchen were not cleaned at all, the appartment was not dusted and the floors were only washed once during our stay. On the bright side though we had a lovely time exploring the resort, loved the Pine Walk, it really was no hardship to walk along the sea shore in the evening and the taxi fare back is about 5 euro. Nice places to eat too, Nico's and La Piazza are well worth a visit. They are both located around the square - a great setting, with kids playing football and candelit resturants. But this is deffinately a quiet family place, lots of families with young kids and couples. The pool area of the hotel is nice and you will get a sunbed no problem, there are lots, the noise level at the pool is fine too, if you know what to expect....music and fun with many families joining in, its good. Breakfast in the hotel is of a good standard as is dinner but again we did'nt feel that it was 4 star standard. The entertainment at night is good fun and Steve nad Laura did a brilliant job, we have an 8 year old who is an early bedder but still managed to put her to bed and enjoy the show from our balcony, she could sleep through the noise, its not that bad at all and when the entertainment is over the hotel is very quiet. The kids club and kids reps also did a wonderful job, our daughter loved it. All in all we had a really nice time, but don't book the Playa Mar if you are looking for something a little special accomodation wise.

we have just returned from a weeks stay at the Playa Mar from 5th sept to the 12th sept with 2 adults and i child aged 3.
The apartments from the reception look lovely, when we arrived in the room they are ok, basic but it has a non existant kitchen and some areas of the apartments could have been cleaned better. The air con was a god send with the hot days we had.
We booked this hotel as it was a Thomson family hotel for my little boy, we found the entertainment over the top! the pool area was cramped and very noisy through the day so we avoided it.
The worst thing about the apartments was the noise level especially on a night time when they had some form of entertainment on from 9.30p.m. until 11.30p.m which is not so good when you have a very tired toddler trying to sleep and when you just want some peace and quiet yourself. If you are wanting a relaxing quiet holiday then dont book this hotel!!!!!!!!!
The resort is lovely and i would go back there like a shot but to a very different hotel.

We have just returned from the Playa Mar and thought that it was a fantastic hotel. It was very clean and tidy, the entertainment by the Thomson entertainers was great and the facilities for small children were fantastic. Our 1 year old particularly enjoyed the soft play area and the outdoor toys behind the kids club block.
Unfortunately our one year old daughter was very unwell whilst there and had to be hospitalised, the hotel staff were fantastic particularly at reception helping us to contact doctors and translating medication leaflets. The same could not be said for the reps!!!
The hotel shop was small and in my opiniion overpriced best option is the spar approx. 5minute wallk or Vera Mar supermarket near square. You cannot take buggies inside so if alone with baby is dificult.
Would definately recomend the hotel to families with young children although the walk along Pine walk is long and bumpy so take a good pushchair!
