“Brilliant Choice!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

My partner and I have just returned from a week at Playa Mar and have had one of the best holidays ever!! We stayed here last year on a self catering basis, but decided to upgrade to half board for a change. what a great decision! Food was excellent with a wide choice of meals to suit everyone. One night they had a chocolate fountain with so many types of fresh fruit and marshmallows for the kids. Another evening it was dessert night with at least 12 different types of gateaux, not to mention the ice cream and fresh fruit. i tried all sorts of different fish from the dinner menu and have to say it was delicious.Breakfast was extensive with cereals, crusty bread of all kinds, full English if you felt like it,not to mention the lovely fresh melon, kiwi fruit and pineapple

The pool area was very good and we had no problem finding a nice sunny spot to laze the morning away. There is plenty to keep the kids amused as well and although we are a pair of senior citizens, the kids were never a problem. It might be a different story during the height of season but it is a family resort,so I guess you would know that when you book.

A 30 minute stroll along the Pine walk takes you to the centre of town and it is a lovely walk with plenty of seats along the way to rest after all that delicious food!

I must commend the staff who were all extremely friendly and made sure our tables were kept clear at all times. They were wonderful with the children also and made them feel part of the dining experience.tolo and Donna do an excellent job in dining room as do all the staff.

I have always made a practice of making my own bed while on holiday, but on the first morning we returned to find the beds made up for us, and I must admit it so nice I let the cleaner make it up every morning!! So lazy I know!!

We had an issue with ants which I eventually reported and the problem was dealt with, although the morning we were leaving there were hundreds once again marching across the room! I think it may have had something to do with being on ground floor,as we never had any food in apartment or spills of any kind.

I would certainly recommend these apartments to anyone- young or old as it is so friendly, clean and food is second to none.

The Spa is absolutely luxurious and deserves a 5 star rating. So restful and immacculately clean.
Apartments have been upgraded with very nice sitting room furniture and curtains, a large flat screen Tv showing BBc and ItV.

Room Tip: Block 1 with room to the back will ensure that you get it nice and quiet, but if you want to avoid th...

This is our second visit to this friendly, welcoming hotel with high standards. The hotel has had a number of subtle improvements like updated curtains, bedding, flat screen digital TV, first clas luxurious spa that is very understated. Staff are friendly, helpful and willing to help. The let down is the army of useless, lazy and seemingly bored Thomsons staff who must rank as the worst we have come across in 20 years of using this company.

We returned to Playamar in August, like last year we upgraded to All Inc on arrival. Apartments have been refreshed and looked good, we were delighted to find Tolo and Donna still running the restaurant, they are Fabulous at what they do. The food was even better than last year! Another stand out member of staff is Sebastian on reception, very kind and helpful.

Sadly we found the Thomson entertainment VERY disappointing, the worst I've seen in all my years of holidaying with Thomson, also the reps on the desk were lacking in knowledge and we ended up booking the 'no frills trips' on our own, which were really great with superb local tour guides!

The reason I give full marks is purely for the HOTEL STAFF and in spite of Thomson staff! Fingers crossed Thomson put in a better 'team' for next year.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

I stayed at the Playa Mar with my wife and 10 month old son in October 2012. The hotel is located at the north end of Port de Pollensa, and is about a 20 minute walk to the marina in the centre of the town. As has been noted by other reviewers the pine walk into town is beautiful but it can be a little hard going on the crazy paving if you have a child in a stroller with you. It is however possible to walk into the town along the main road, which is less scenic but much easier on the joints!

On arrival at the hotel we were checked in efficiently and courteously. We were staying in a one bedroom apartment on a self-catering basis. The apartment was fine, with a couple of reservations. We found the air conditioning to be pretty anaemic and we endured a couple of uncomfortable nights (the temperature was in the mid-late 20s during our stay). I think if we’d been staying during high summer it could have been unbearable . Second, the kitchenette is very small. While it does come with microwave, fridge, two cooker rings and a kettle, there was very little room for food storage. This is a nuisance and we ended up keeping a lot of our food under the television and on the table. The maid service was excellent, our room was made up every day with fresh towels and the room was generally spotless. We did suffer from a few ants but I wouldn’t blame the hotel for that!

Apart from these relatively minor gripes about the room, there were plenty of positives about the hotel. The pool area is fantastic, boasting three pools as well as small water slides and lots of inflatable toys for kids. There were lots of sunbeds around the pool and we never had any trouble getting two together or getting an umbrella for shade. The caveat to that is that we went in October – I’ve no idea what the sunbed situation is like in August! Our son was too young to get involved in any activities but there were lots on offer and any of the reps we encountered were friendly and helpful. There is a crèche facility for very young kids and a soft play area where parents can bring infants to crawl around in a safe environment.

There is a new indoor spa facility which my wife used and was highly impressed by. It contains a large indoor pool (swimming cap required!) as well as plunge pools and treatments. She said there was only one other guest there when she visited it.

We were a little worried about the evening entertainment, but it never disturbed our sleep. Our bedroom faced into the area where the stage is located but once we closed the window we could barely hear the singing.

There is the option to upgrade your board basis at reception or to pay for individual meals. We paid for dinner one night in the buffet restaurant for €15 each and were very impressed by the range and quality of food available. The majority restaurants in Port de Pollensa are at least 15 minutes walk away so having a good buffet option is a real boon.

There is a small mini-market on the hotel premises but it is very limited in its range, especially if you are on a self-catering basis. There is a larger grocery type shop about a 5 minute walk away and there is a large Eroski supermarket in the town centre, again about 20-25 mins walk away.

One thing that intrigued me about the Playa Mar was the number of older holiday makers who were staying there. While many of them were grandparents accompanying their children and grandchildren, several appeared to be there in couples. I would class the Playa Mar as an ideal resort for people with young children but fail to see much appeal for older people without their grandkids. It is a loud, colourful and chaotic hotel (in a good way!) and time by the pool there is anything but quiet and relaxing!

In summary we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Playa Mar, notwithstanding our minor quibbles. It is an excellent spot for people with young kids and a great base to enjoy the beautiful Port de Pollensa.

We have stayed at this hotel and resort thirteen times now. We just love it. We were there again in August for two weeks and just love it. Our fourteen and ten year old daughters just adore the place and say it is like their second home. The actual hotel is wonderful. The staff are amazing and have got to know alot of them over the years and consider them as friends. There have been a few changes over the past couple of years such as a new health spa and stage area. There is a cute little shop on site for all your basic needs. There is a poolside restaurant which is lovely and we ate there most days. There is an indoor restaurant which we ate at a few times but did go out to eat alot too. The food is first class but the only criticism we have is you cannot eat al fresco. This hotel caters for all ages. We have been bringing our children here since they were babies and they love it just as much now.
Hopefully we will be back next year. Thank you Playa Mar. x x

My wife and I spent a week here ( 1st week in October) - we found it excellent . Perhaps not ideal for teenagers but great for younger children and couples (young , middle aged , and upwards ! ) with a great pool area and lots of day/evening entertainment. We felt the condition of our apartment was very fresh and comfortable with the kitchenette area being adequate . A little remote from the town centre but a beautiful walk there via the Pinewalk and taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced .The most impressive aspect was the friendliness and helpfulness of all staff from reception, room service , Thomas Cook reps and particularly all members oin the dinning area where two folks , Tolla and Donna were outstanding. We upgraded from self-catering to half board for a very reasonable charge and suffered the penalty of the first rate buffet style meals by adding 8 lbs in the week - The sweet "trolley " was " to die for " and overall choice very good !!
If we possibly can , we certainly plan to return next year

Stayed here for a week in early September and I was appalled at the cleaning service and all round hygiene in our room.

1 - Bed sheets were not changed after 4 days. We had to request clean sheets at reception who advised us they should be regularly changed.

2 - Filthy floors daily. With 2 small children (one who is crawling on the floor) this was a real concern for me. Again we had to request our floors be cleaned properly but this fell on deaf ears. When they were half heartedly cleaned we were left with clumps of the cleaners black hair.

3 - A kettle so filthy we had to scrub it twice. We needed boiling water for baby milk but the inside of the kettle was disgusting.

4 - A warm tap that didn't work in the kitchen. How are you meant to wash up?

If it wasn't for the total lack of effort to keep the room to an acceptable standard I would give this place a great review. Excellent pool which my daughter loved. Very attentive reps who worked tirelessly all day and night. A soft room which was perfect for my 8 month old son and a wonderful indoor spa.

But I cannot get away from the complete lack of cleanliness.
