“Excellent sea adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

This is an excellent option for those who are not renting a car but still would like to see all the beauty of Crete. We had a hotel transfer which brought us directly to the Kissamos port and handed out the tickets. Boat is filling up pretty quickly (we were there 1 hour before and it was quite full already) with people wondering around for better seats. The overall experience on the boat was pleasant, prices in the bar affordable. However, you go there not for the boat but for the views which were spectacular. The first stop at Gramvousa island is for 2 hours. If you want to see the castle which offers some amazing views on the surroundings you basically don't have time for beach in there. Still, it is totally worth it. After that boat takes another 15 minutes to arrive to Balos lagoon where you have around 3 hours to spend. Honestly, it is not enough. While all the people get down the boat, walk towards the beach etc etc the precious time is sliding through your fingers. I highly recommend this trip, because you have the chance to go to the 'corners' of Crete, combine nice travel in the sea with climbing up the castle and views of the sea all around you as long as you can reach and some relaxing time on beautiful beach with very pink sand.

“Choose the smaller boat for better experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We fortunately asked an important question when buying the tickets at the counter. For the same 22EUR price, you can be on either the huge boat or a medium one leaving 15min later or so in the morning.
1/ too many people in the big one, massive migration of people to the visited sites... we avoided this.
2/ the second (medium) boat goes to Balos lagoon first (while the big boat goes to the Gramvousa island) i.e. you can be in the lagoon without the crowds.
The boats stops near the shore and you can swim from the boat.
It was really nice, could take photos of us without nobody around. I shot some photos when 2H later the big boat arrived with the hundreds of ppl walking in our directions. Scary!!!
Nice lagoon but not much to see underwater. I noticed quite a lot of trash in the sea, left by tourist, and a lot of cigaret butts in the sand. Shame on them, you must respect this fragile environment!
The visit of Gramvousa was OK. Really needs tennis shoes at least, sandals are not appropriate for climbing up to the fort. You can then swim and snorkel around. Then the boats brings you back to the harbour at 6pm.

Note about the cruise:
- the sea was said to be nice that day, but we had a strong wind and a pretty heavy swell (seasick ppl, beware)
- at least 80% of the customers were chain-smoking on the upper deck (open space). Unbelievable, although we were outdoor we had to change seats to be facing the wind in order to get rid of the smell. Aren't we supposed to breathe fresh air in such a beautiful place?
- although smoky, the upper deck is better for enjoying the sceneries.
- staff was nice and helpful.
- onboard food is not too expensive
- there are 2 small showers at the back (stern) very useful :P
- don't forget to bring your towels

Recommendation:
if you drive a car, go to Falasarna for the sunset; it's on the right hand side when leaving the harbour and you need to drive 15min. It faces West and offers nice sunsets.
We ate at a family restaurant in the mountain (before going down to Falasarna) with a great terasse. good local food and wonderful sunset.

“Simply amazing !! Not to be missed !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

I come from Crete but I live abroad and never had visited this small paradise before! It is definitely worthy to visit! Crystal clear water where you could stay for days not only hours !! When go to Gramvousa don't miss the opportunity to step up to the castle for a breathtaking view of an endless deep blue sea and balos lagoon at the opposite site !! Just a unique experience !! I want to go there again and again !! If you stay somewhere in the Chania municipality, DO NOT miss this experience !!

“Incredible unique Greek scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

I live in the region where Gramvousa is located, but this place is virtually inaccessible except in summer by mini-cruise ship. There is nothing like this palce in all of Greece. The area is of great environmental and historical significance. The boat crew did an incredible job and helped people to make the best of a once-in-a-lifetime (form most, as mainly toruists were on board) experience to visit an isolated part of Greece
