“It really worths the visiting!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

Excellent views, crystal clear waters, a really amazing place to go. We went there with the boat in order to avoid the bad road, which was on the one hand good. Although, on the other hand the time we could spend there it was restricted.I wish i could stay a whole day.
The good thing is that even if it was too crowed there was space to stay and also a beach bar to get some water drinks and something to eat.

If you go to Crete do not miss it!!

“Worth the trip, but make sure your tires can handle it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

This was a place of indescribable beauty, but the last 7km of the road was hair raising and we almost turned back. We went in late november so it was too cold to swim, not the water but the outside air temp was cool and windy. Plus we were afraid of getting caught on that road in the dark with a flat tire. There are car killing rocks on the road, sharp, too big to avoid, and going slow is essential. More than 10km/hr is too fast. On the way back two of us decided to get out and walk/jog so as to lighten the load on the car. We have a rental car and the tires are small, and balding...if we had better tires, we would have been ok. Just beware of the risks and you will be fine. We saw shepherds whizzing by in their 4x4 toyota trucks, so obviously if you have a 4x4 you will be fine and can do this drive in 15 minutes. It took us 45.

This is totally worth the trek, and the hike down to the beach at the end was too much for my husband who has bad knees, but there is steps most of the way so most normal able bodied people (non athletes) will have no problem. I'm an asthmatic, and the hike back up was tough but I went slow and took breaks. Don't miss Balos beach if you are in Chania. Hire a driver, take a boat or drive yourself, but make sure you see it.

“This is a MUST-SEE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

Words and my pictures cannot do justice to this spectacular, absolutely stunning lagoon/beach. I don't quite know how to describe this place - it is a beauty of nature. The warm, super crystalline waters that range in color from turquoise to blue to white against the mountains in the distance is a sight for sore and the only word that comes to mind is paradise! If you go to Crete, PLEASE do yourself a favor and visit Balos!

“Gorgeous beach area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Balos is a bit of a trek to reach, the road is rough but passable in an ordinary car so long as you take it slowly. The walk across from carpark is quite steep down at the end, the beach nice and divided up into a number of smaller areas which in the Autumn meant you could be on your own. Very picturesque

“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Must visit place. Clearer than clear water, amazing colors, warm sand.
Rent a car and stay there as much as you wish.
Don't go by ferry, otherwise you won't enjoy the place because you'll stay there ~1.5-2 hours
