Perched on a hill, a stones through from 90 mile beach rests this unpretentious motel.

We had booked 2 units. Both were substantial, and had views to die for. You could sit on the deck all day, and do nothing but look out over the beautiful vista. Each had everything you'd need in a motel - nothing flash, or over the top - just a good, honest motel, blessed with the most amazing positioning.

Big bonus is the restaurant, which we found provided an excellent meal, especially as we had both meat eaters and vegetarians, and that can be challenging, but no worries here. The menu catered for both and we all went away satisfied. The pepper sauce I had on my stone grill steak was the best I've ever had, but the recipe wasn't forthcoming!! Mind you, I wouldn't have given it away either!

The staff and management were really friendly and in the restaurant/bar were as interactive as you wanted them to be. They clearly love running their establishment, and enjoy the company of their guests.

This was our second stay here, and we wouldn't look at staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: You must have one of the rooms at the front of the property - the view is incredible! Make sure you...

A great space for our family. The space of the unit was great.Bedrooms apart so we could all get some sleep :) . Then the view..absolutely amazing. To sit out on the deck and take in the view with a cold drink - amazing.
Checking in was amazingly easy. Just take the key and chill out in the room.
Sure the decor may not be to everyone's taste, but it was more then adequate for our stay. Great water pressure in the shower. Great space to be able to cook ourselves a little breakfast before heading off on our day. (Shop in at Kaitaia before heading out the Ahipara). Only a short walk down to the beach for a play in the surf (didn't see any lifesavers etc so take care)
And did I mention the view? Sit back and take a breath and chill out. Would recommend Ahipara Bay Motel for a family wanting space for a Northland holiday, close to a beach.

Room Tip: They all look out to the ocean. We asked for a 2 bedroom so were right in the middle. Maybe ask for...

We were recommended the restaurant here while we were staying at a nearby hostel. Even though we arrived quite late (just after they had closed the restaurant) the couple that run the motel were really welcoming and served us a delicious hot stone meal and invited us to join them for a drink after our meal. They were both extremely hospitable and the food was delicious and innovative. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Lovely motel,in a beautiful and peaceful area of New Zealand. Clean, quiet and comfortable rooms with incredible views. Steak on a hot rock was a good idea as well for the restaurant. Very good base for exploring the north.

Room Tip: The two bedroom rooms are great with two TV's

I recently stayed at the Ahipara bay motel during a twin coast highway road trip from Auckland to the Northland - what a wonderful experience. The motel offers good value for money with spacious, neat accommodation offering excellent views of the ocean and 90 mile beach. My hosts were extremely friendly making me feel right at home, and I can highly recommend a visit to the motel's bar and restaurant facility. I ate there every night and was blown away by the quality of the food and the extremely prompt service. Neil (my host) even arranged for me to be picked up straight from the hotel for a day tour up 90 mile beach to Cape Reinga - which is a must if you are in the area. All in all great stay in a beautiful part of the world.

Ahipara Bay Motel was a perfect choice for our two day night stay near Ninety Mile Beach. Clean and modern, our large comfy room and bath with simple cooking accessories more than met our needs for a home base to explore and hike the beaches. What a beautiful view! We so enjoyed sitting on our deck overlooking the ocean. Our hosts were super accommodating going as far as driving us to a trail head in the morning so we could have one long all day tromp. The bottle of milk each day was a nice touch. Having the restaurant and bar on site was bonus.

My husband and I visited Ahipara on our road trip of Northland in October 2013. We found an ad for Ahipara Bay Motel in the AA Touring Guide and stopped in for a two-night visit. We were wowed by the view when Neil opened the door of our oceanside room. It was a sweeping view of the ocean and 90-Mile Beach. The room was modern and clean with a little kitchen and very nice bathroom with great shower. But one of the best features was the balcony overlooking the ocean. We had wine and cheese, enjoying the sunset both nights we were there. We also ate in the motel's restaurant both nights. Raywyn's fresh seafood dishes were unpretentious and delicious. We even talked her into cooking a hot breakfast for us the second morning so we could catch a bus tour to Cape Reinga. The tour was suggested by Neil and was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. We recommend Ahipara Bay Motel, especially the oceanfront rooms.

Room Tip: We were in Room #11 on the end of the building. It was quiet and had a fabulous view.
