As a regular business traveller from Brisbane to the region, my friends decided to join me for an extended long weekend from Anzac Day eve for five nights and spotted Blackwattle Luxury Retreat two bedroom accommodation.
We had a ball! We worked our way through their entire music selection as we cooked, drank (the Blackwattle produced Leg Over), sang, danced, laughed, ate and were merry in front of the delightful combustion stove. The swans visited the dam daily to observe our shenanigans, as we observed theirs. We both critiqued and took inspiration from recipes and recommendations made in the various magazines and shared excerpts from the books.
As others have commented, Amanda and Scott really have thought of everything. The full kitchen had us whipping up all sorts of culinary delights which prevented us from sampling local restaurants, while ensuring that every one of us was able to amply sample the local vino. And it was the perfect setup to do just that. We shopped everywhere from the Lovedale Smokehouse (albeit that our welcome wasn't great there, their produce was excellent) to Cessnock Woolies for staples.
During the mornings we slept late, lazed through breakfast while watching the resident 'roos, before heading off to a few selected wineries and/or sights before repairing to the 'homestead' for our late afternoon drinks in the vineyard and evenings of consuming our daily finds. A couple of us hit it out at The Vintage which we highly recommend - go to iseekgolf.com for discounted rates.
The layout of the two retreats and main home on the site are very cleverly thought through ensuring sufficient distance from each other to minimise disturbances as well as maximising the various scenic vantage points. Additionally, the landscaping around all buildings is well planned providing natural points of separation and beautiful outlooks.
Amanda and Scott were more than happy to assist with extra wood or a change of linen if requested, and otherwise were equally delighted to leave us to our own devices.
Could we imagine a better place to stay in the Hunter Valley? Not easily. Well priced, fabulous accommodation. We will return and we recommend that you check it out.
