Fortunate to have been a couple of times. Fishing is sensational and how good is it to come back to dry land, air con comfortable huts, a cool ale or two and great meal on the verandah. I am 75 and Clearwater has been the best fishing experiences of my life. Enough said!

Having fished most of the high dollar value Lodges on Melville and Bathurst it was strange that we ventured to Clearwater as the Lodge we hadn't been to, even though we had been to others multiple times. Our group was comprised of 4 pax and 2 per boat + 1 guide. That's how we do it, so it translates into expensive fishing, so be it. We fished 2 days. One day was very poor, no barra just a couple of blue salmon and a few Jacks, the next day was very good (different guide) with a whopping 108cm Threadfin, plenty of Barra, Blues, Jacks, Skinny's and a massive cod (not boated). It's a great setting, fairly good quarters and bathrooms and reasonably good fishing equipment. Where it can improve (and there's plenty of room) is the food, sorry guys but for the buck$ better quality food is essential. Still had a good time, but mighn't bust my cods to go back, unless the food has improved somewhat. Nice people running the place and the beer is cold, so plenty to work with.

Thank you for reviewing us at Clearwater Island Lodge we appreciate your feedback.
We also would of hoped that in your short stay with us that you might have caught a few more fish on day one than you did but unfortunately with any location and fishing in general it is and can be very unpredictable at times and may not always go the way we would want it too. We always highly recommend a minimum of 3 days fishing to truly get to experience what is on offer here at Clearwater Island Lodge.
Congratulations on your 108cm Threadfin and the massive cod pity it didn't get boated.
We where a bit surprised about your feedback about the food as we always get great feedback about what we offer and generally get told we offer to much food from all our returning guests however we have taken this on board and really appreciate the feedback and we have already reviewed and changed what we offer as this is a very important part of our service. We hope that you will give us the opportunity sometime in the future to show case the changes we have made.

Thank you again and we wish you all the best for 2013.

If you are a fisherman and want a very special experience where you want to relax a bit by just turning up, fishing fantastic areas and waters without the hassle of worrying about gear, and the best, not having to clean boats and fish afterwards. You fish you relax! My second time and was as fantastic as the first. Wonderful location, lodge, food, fishing and people. And one of the least expensive remote fishing packages in the country, what more can one ask for!

Only five stars? It doesnt seem enough to accurately reflect how great this place is.

Due to work comitments we could only visit the lodge in February which is before they normally start their season. But of course this was no problem. They opened early for us and even on a skeleton staff they still produced an amazing experience for us. Apparently this is the worst time of year for fishing, too much fresh water. Someone forgot to tell the fish that! Even out of season the fishing was fantastic. Glenn our guide worked hard putting us on the fish day after day. Heaps of the favourites like Barra and Threadies and scores of other species.

Hospitallity, food, service, guiding, fishing all come second to none. Dave and Glen, you will be seeing us again.

Glenn, Luke and Jeremy.

I have been fortunate to fish many exotic and bountiful fishing locations over the years however in my opinion Clearwater Lodge offers anglers the best all round package I have yet experienced in Australia. The sheer variety of species and fishing options which are available to the angler is hard to surpass and in a recent trip with my brother and father we caught over 15 species in 3 days. The location of the lodge not only affords beautiful views of this stunning landscape but also allows anglers to cut down wasted travel time on the water with creek, estuarine and Bluewater fishing grounds all within 20min to 1hr. The cost while steep should be viewed in the context of the remoteness of the location, lack of fishing pressure and the 'all inclusive' nature of the fishing packages with clean and comfortable accommodation, a well stocked bar, laundry service, personal fishing guide and truly outstanding food. Michael and Kerry worked hard throughout our three day stay to ensure we were afforded the 'exclusive' experience one expects at these kinds of lodges. Their friendly and contentious natures made the trip all the more enjoyable and one which I very much look forward to doing all again. While on the water, we were placed under the experienced hands of Clinton and David who were very friendly, approachable and worked hard showing initiative in constantly moving locations throughout the day to both ensure we caught fish and that we had the type of fishing experience 'we wanted'. I have no reservations in recommending the resort to any perspective angler however would suggest that you pack a couple of disposable ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as the air-conditioning unit is a little noisy.

had the absolute pleasure f using the Lodge as a base for the Civil Construction training I conducted on the islands from August until December 6th. I cannot say enough about the hospitality and the graciousness of Kerry, Michael and the staff of the Lodge. On many occasions during my week long stays I was fortunate to meet and converse with many of the groups that came to fish and almost to a person they had nothing but praise for their fishing trips. I of course reaped the benefit of all this fishing with an endless supply of fresh seafood and mud crab each evening for dinner. Brett, who unfortunately has now embarked on his great overseas adventure and Dave always excelled in delivering first class meals that would be the envy of any seafood restaurant in Sydney or Melbourne.

Melville Island is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a haven that is second to none. I have lived and worked overseas for many years and been lucky to travel to many wonderful places, but throughout the world and Australia, I rate the Lodge as one of my favorite places. Not just because of location, but because of the people who take a moment to make you feel special and ensure that the memories you take away are special to.

This is the third time I have been to Clearwater Lodge but it won't be the last. Having read some of the previous reports I agree with some of the issues; yes the rooms are smaller, the airconditioning is noisy, they don't have ensuites etc. but this is not what this Lodge is about. Clearwater is about the fishing and the natural and rugged beauty of the Tiwi Islands. The rooms are clean, comfortable and fine for the little time you tend to spend in them. The lodge itself is warm and inviting and creates more a 'family holiday house' feeling than a resort. If you want more just ask, Kerrie and Michael never seem to say "no" to any request despite the remoteness.

The fishing is fantastic. This visit we encountered two quieter days but even these were enjoyable with a number of different species caught. On the final day we were lucky enough to catch a number of fish, including 19 Barra. Not bad for an average fisherman and his 11 and 9 year old sons. The fishing guides are all fantastic and work hard to make the experience enjoyable for all, no matter your ability. As well as fishing, my wife and 2 boys loved netting live bait with Clinton and chasing mud crabs across sand banks with Dave; thanks guys the memories will live with them for ever.

Each night we enjoyed our catch which was, as always, cooked and presented beautifully. Whilst much of the fishing is catch and release, their is always more food on the table than you could eat, no matter how hungry you may be. A good selection of wines and drinks from the bar help to wash it all down as you share your stories with fellow guests.

If the fishing is quiet, which is rare, the sheer beauty of this area never ceases to amaze me. The inland waterways that snake through the islands are different at every bend and team with crocs and bird life, whilst the open waters show off the islands white beaches and contrasting red cliffs, also with crocs and birds.

In summary, a fantastic place to go as a group of friends or as a family. It is not a five star resort with day spas and shops, thankfully the remoteness ensures it never will be. Saying this, I've been with mates, did a father and son trip and now with my wife and two boys and have no doubt I will be back, in fact I cannot wait.

Scott
