Table Mountain is a glorious place to be with magnificent views and spectacular flora and fauna however - the facilities are not! We arrived at 10.00 on a lovely sunny morning, mid-week and not during school holidays. There was just no-where to park within about half a mile (we needed somewhere fairly close as we had an elderly lady with us) and in the end I had to drop the rest of the group off and park. By the time we left a few hours later the line of parked cars was well out of sight and of course it took quite a while to travel to and from the car as my mobility is not at it's best at the moment. Surprisingly, by the time I was back with my group it only took about 20 minutes before we entered the cable car as the queues were not overly long, and as there were not a lot of people on the top of the mountain, I don't know where all the cars came from. Although clean the food in the restaurant was poor and we were surprised at lunch-time (early lunch to avoid the crowds that really were turning up) that the food was cold except a vegetarian dish. Salads looked fresh but we all wanted hot food. When I commented about it to a waitress all she said was to write to the management as there was no-one there to accept a complaint. Couldn't believe it but as my mother was getting very tired by this time, didn't persue it. I also felt that the restaurant was extremely expensive by South African standards. Only other thing to mention was that although there are three walks offered, they all start at the same point along a well concreted section that is fairly easy to walk along, but we chose to do the 45 minute walk (minus my mother) and, although there was nowhere saying that it was unsuitable for anyone except the most sure-footed, we had a lot of difficulty with most of it. If there had been some sort of sign to explain the various difficulties then we would have chosen another one. The signage for the route was also difficult to find and we wandered off the track several times. In all, what should have taken 45 minutes actually took 90, allowing for photographs!
