“Memorable trip, perfect lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2011

We´ll never forget this trip to Mendoza, and Francisco and his Tikaykilla are the responsible for that!

First of all, because we chose Tikaykilla to spend New Year´s eve. We trully felt like home and the celebration became a great feast between us and Francisco´s family, who were up there.

Tikaykilla has the perfect and adequate enviroment for Maipú. Although the City of Mendoza is quite charming, there´s no better choice than staying among the bodegas of Maipú, where you can easily ride bikes, visit beautiful places with a great view of the Andes. And the strategic position Tikaykilla is located helped a lot.

And the best way for us to start and finish a day surely was with all the kindness of Francisco. We were so suprised how kind a man could be! From the booking to the farewell at the bus station, he was just so attentious!

The rooms are great, the common areas are very cozy and he´s got a very nice backyard where we could rest from the bike-rides of the day!

If you want an informal place to stay with great service in an strategic region, don´t think twice: just get in touch with Francisco and go to Tikaykilla!

Francisco: we´ll be back soon! Thanks for all!

Gustavo

While the proprietor, Francisco, was extremely welcoming and helpful, his hotel was pretty mediocre. The rooms are basic and the place lacks decoration. The bathrooms were spacious. Nearly everything you want to see or do in Maipu is a taxi ride away, so this is not a good location if you don't have a rental car. The wi-fi wasn't working for the entirety of our stay.

Dear Steph,
We really sorry that you didn't like our place because it was not at the level you expected. Unfortunately looks like you are not the profile of the visitors that enjoy our Lodge, and the ones we target to... the visitors to our lodge enjoy the quiet bike rides, that's why don't need a car, due to main wineries are only 2000m from here. I hope any of the 10 hotels you called for free from our mobile and the payments you made with a very considerate exchange rate we gave you are better than our beloved lodge. Regarding WIFI that didn't work during your whole stay, allow me to remind you that you were only here for 20hs.

We loved our two nights here in December, and would have stayed longer if we could have.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. They're a little on the cosy side, but with Francisco as host and the myriad wineries just around the corner - you won't (or shouldn't) be in the room for much at all.

The rooms don't have air-conditioning (which would be nice), but we were there through some hot weather (34/35 degrees) and with the fan provided by Francisco, it was comfortable enough. Especially if you leave the door and window open, as we did (which you can do without thinking twice, it's that kind of safe and friendly place).

What made the place (and our stay), without a doubt, was Francisco (oh, and Suki – such a beautiful dog). Francisco was the most wonderful host: easy-going, super helpful, and a genuinely nice guy.

We did the bike tour of the wineries, and followed his recommendations almost to the letter. They were great. Would definitely recommend you cycle the wineries in this area - ride and imbibe. It's a beautiful day out. Francisco can arrange for you to get dropped off at the far end of the route, so you can then cycle back to TikayKilla.

His wine recommendations were good. And we also enjoyed an amazingly simple fettuccine at a local restaurant (on his recommendation). It was the freshest homemade pasta with the sweetest, simplest sugo - and one of the best meals we’ve had in South America. So pick his brains for recommendations.

Lastly, we spent two great evenings sharing stories and wine with the other guests and Francisco. There is a fabulous atmosphere of fun and friendship at TikayKilla - thanks to Francisco. We're very glad to have stayed at his place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tikay Killa after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, and it was excellent. The rooms were adequate and clean, with a lovely breakfast each morning. Francisco as a host was amazing, super friendly relaxed and sorted all adventures out around Maupi. The best thing was the Lodge is right at the start of the Maipu Wine Ride.

My wife, nine-month old daughter and I stayed at TikayKilla between December 17th and 21st and would easily say that it was one of the best memories from our six-week trip to Argentina and Uruguay.

Francisco is an amazing, kind and helpful host who bent over backwards to ensure that we were all happy and comfortable during our stay. If not for his assistance in making reservations for bodega tours and meals, our stay could have been an entirely different experience.

Since we had our daughter with us, Francisco set us up with a portable crib in the room for sleeping. We also really appreciated the fact that we were free to use the common kitchen area to store and prepare a few meals and drinks.

Breakfast was also great. After several weeks of a strict continental-style breakfast, it was fantastic to have some scrambled eggs again! In addition, Francisco would have delicious orange juice and fresh baked pastries from a local bakery to eat.

I would easily recommend that anyone looking to visit the Maipu area goes to stay at TikayKilla for their trip, they will be very thrilled that they did so!

Thank you once again for a fantastic experience Francisco, Kaitlyn says hello!

We found Tikay Killa from the other comments on Trip Advisor and found the location to be great, right in the middle of the bicycle-friendly Maipu wine district. The rooms are clean, and the breakfast is all fresh and to your order, but Fancisco turned out to be as good or better than the previous comments, and made our stay in Maipu extend from 2 days to 4!

He has a great sense for what you might like and has friendships with the better wineries and restaurants. After a 6 hour bus trip from Chile, he set us up with a great restaurant (Casa de Campo) for a late lunch then picked us up and took us to the lodge.

He needs to expand beyond the 4 or 5 guest rooms he currently has, so he can accommodate more guests who will be knocking on his door, but I know he will expand soon. Thanks for the great memories Francisco - we will return soon!

Great place to stay. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfasts one of the best we had in argentina. Location is ideal if you plan on doing bike (or car) tours of the vineyards, distilleries, and chocolate factories nearby.
The owner, Francisco (and Soci the dog and Canela the cat), from the very moment we first made contact over the web, couldn't have been more helpful. This was one place we were really looking forward to staying and it did not disappoint.
With great knowledge of the wines of Argentina (he used to work in the wine export industry), great ideas for things to do locally and superb advice regarding travel in Argentina, it really was like going to stay with a friend you hadn't seen for a while. I can't recommend it enough, and wish we could have our time on honeymoon there all over again (and for longer!)
