A good place to stay for families. The beach area was small but very nice. The bar staff and wait staff very pleasant and accommodating. It's located right next to the local hang-out 'Store Bay' and that's a great place to get some local food and souveniers. The hotel room is a little dated, but has a lot of carribbean charm. The grounds are well kept and clean. Breakfast had the same items on buffet everyday, but it was enough so that you had a bit of variety if you wanted to. Wifi was only available in the lobby unless you paid for it.
Not a lot in terms of night life in the hotel, but plenty to do around the Crown Point area that is walking distance from the hotel
I would recommend Coco Reef as it is convienient. The Airport is less than 2 minutes away. You can choose a quiet evening at the resort lobby or you can walk a short distance and enjoy the night life with some friendly locals.

The feather in the cap of this charming award-winning hotel is its wonderful staff, well lead by the ever-present Manager - Mr Eric Feniet. Always smiling, always willing to help and very friendly, the Coco Reef staff epitomise all that is good about Tobago. The food in the hotel is very good, but for a change of scene and menu, dinner in Café Coco (part of the hotel but situated a few hundred yards away) should not be missed. We found the hotel housekeeping staff to be excellent and when we needed something to be repaired in our room, the maintenance staff were promptly on the scene. The lagoon is very child friendly (being shallow at one end) and fish can be seen and enjoyed without the need for snorkel gear. However, if you do snorkel around the lagoon retaining wall you will be rewarded with a fantastic array of various tropical fish. There are plenty of sun loungers on the beach and clean beach towels are available from reception daily. The beach bar waiting staff are generally attentive and the offering of free iced fruit cocktails and fresh fruit on a stick whilst lounging in the sun was appreciated. We really enjoyed watching the sunsets from our balcony and would recommend upgrading to a sea view room for this reason alone. We were disappointed by the standard of the evening entertainment at the hotel (which was non-existent on some evenings) but to be fair, most residents retired to the comfort of their rooms after dinner so the audiences were small. This was not the first time we have enjoyed the Coco Reef Hotel and despite the lack of evening entertainment, it will not be the last. Well done Eric!

Room Tip: Request a sea view room to enjoy the sunsets from your own balcony

The appeal of Coco Reef is the private beach for me at least. The maintenance of the hotel seems to have slipped a bit in recent years though. The beach area isn't cleaned as diligently as I recall. The lobby area would be sandy at several points during the day and wouldn't be swept as quickly.
The buffet breakfast is definitely not as lavish as it used to be. Egg station chef takes quite a long time and on busier days you could be in line for almost 15 minutes. The variety of muffins, yogurts, local dishes has certainly been diminished. Staff is more than willing to serve always with a smile.
We stayed at a villa and it was so dated and almost battered looking. The guttering above our villa had a very bad leak and was a pain to dash through during heavy showers. The decor has no seen the turn of the century for sure.
The bathroom faucet was leaky but was repaired within an hour of my report. However, the shower stall and bathroom area was a huge turn off. The grout was stained and mildewy; faucet rusty and the too-small shower curtain made it impossible to take a bath without getting water everywhere, spraying the toilet, ground and sink area. To make matters worse on the second day of our stay, cleaning staff took away most of our towels and floor bath mats and never replaced them nor did they leave any shampoo, soap etc. Needless to say it was quite inconvenient to have to call down and wait for these things to be brought to me which crossing fingers that I would make my business dinner in time. The water situation from the shower spray was plain frustrating.
Gym facilities are impeccably clean but 2 of the 4 machines available for cardio were out of service. Not a deal breaker but still annoying for a luxury hotel.
Would I recommend? I don't think so based on the price. Some upgrades and updates are needed to warrant charging those prices.

I have to recognize that I didn't expect so much about this Hotel. Mostly because in Trinbago they don't care/need tourism (they have plenty of oil/natural gas) so the tourist services in general are very poor. So I went with low expectations, but the service was really good. The hotel is old but very good maintained. The service is really nice and all the staff is very kind. I arrived early and my tour was cancelled so I was in the Hotel much earlier than my check in time (3 pm). When I ask if I could check in earlier, the ground manager that happen to be there searched for a room that was ready and let us check-in in an early time. Great detail. The breakfast is very good, and the bar services at the beach is great (the private beach is gorgeous). It's true that the Hotel is overpriced for the things that you can pay for the same amount in other places of the world (like Miami) but in Tobago there's not much offer. Finally the location is one of the best things, walking distance from the airport and near to all the restaurants and bars in Crown Point. They charge you for the WiFi but if you need to check in they have free internet in the computers room. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms in the second floor have better ocean view.

Enjoyable, brief stay in Tobago at the Coco Reef Hotel. Had a hard time finding a hotel with great reviews anywhere on the island, but were satisfied with our choice after checking out a few others during our stay. Hotel was once pristine and perfect, now dated but still extremely charming. Service was either fantastic or terrible, depending on the person. Servers tend to give you strange looks when you make typical requests, and either return immediately, an hour later or not at all. Housekeeping was always nearby checking on our room, but seemed reluctant to offer new towels, even after removing the perfectly fine existing towels from our room. Beach towels were often "in the washer" when requested at the front desk and had to ask several times until we finally received them, only for housekeeping to immediately remove from our room. Most of our light bulbs were burnt out in our room so it was challenging to find our things, although didn't mind the dim ambiance. Attached patio was a peaceful way to start and end the day and loved the kitten that slept on our patio furniture throughout the afternoons. We enjoyed walking to Crown Point to visit local restaurants and bars. The lagoon makes swimming really peaceful with the tropical fish and kayaks available for free rental. Sunset from the pier was remarkable and loved watching the various tour boats, jet skis, and sailboats pass by. Would stay again if we ever returned; might BYO lightbulbs and towels for the next trip.

This is a great place to stay if you want clean rooms, great service and be living close to resturants. The hotel has its own beach, without waves but with a lot of different fishes swiming around. For us, not use to snorkling or diving it was just perfect and enough to explore. The breakfast was mixed and quite delicious, the fuit tastes fantastic but skip the coffiee. We had lunch at their beachresturant a few days, the burgers were the most juicy ever but some of the other food quite average.
According to what we hard about hotels in Caribbean this hotel was perfect, even though we have had more luxurious hotel in other parts of the World. The only minus might be that the walls are quite thin.

Room Tip: We had a room fronted to the beach wich was much nice than rooms fronted to the garden that we also...

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel many times before but this time was different. We stayed for one week as a well deserved vacation but felt a like the staff imposed on our privacy. There was a particular member of staff (female) who claimed to remember us and became a bit too familiar! We ordered room service one day and when my boyfriend answered the door and took the tray from her, she followed him inside where I was in my pajamas. This to us was an invasion of our privacy since my boyfriend told her it was not necessary for her to come in.

On another day we were having breakfast when this same member of staff shouted over at our table in an attempt to have a conversation with me. This was in poor taste since it drew attention from neighbouring tables.

Furthermore, when the made service came to clean our room, we were still in it and she kept on knocking at the door at least three times consecutively giving little wait time for us to compose ourselves to answer the door.

For a hotel which claims to be the 'best in the Caribbean', they need to pay attention to professionalism rather than seemingly nosey to certain guests. We will definitely have to consider if we will return or even recommend this hotel to our family and friends.
