“Chilled out!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

We went for a lunch here and it was a really chilled out laid back vibe.. Staff really friendly..
Food was slow but we was warned when ordering so didn't mind..and was worth the wait..
Cocktail are nice in here compared other places and not bad prices..

Didn't make it for dinner here but set menu is meant to be nice

“UP ITSELF”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Have you ever been to a restaurant where the staff give the impression you are so lucky to be served by us.........well this is one of those.
Went for lunch prior to flying home and had reserved table.
Only two members of staff.
Service slow and condescending.
Cocktails reasonable
Choice of main course limited,we had a satisfactory fish course.
Dessert very limited again and even then some unavailable.
Had to go in a rush,we were not the only table treated like this.
A real shame to end a brilliant holiday in this fashion.

“Lovely place to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

Had two evening meals here (one buffet) during our recent stay and both were very good. Food was fresh with homemade dressings and flavored with fresh herbs from their garden. Some variety & choice but menu a little confining. There wasn't enough choice to bring me back a 3rd night ! enjoyed the salads & fried shrimp the best. Atmosphere was nice, staff very attentive and greeted us warmly on our return visit. Owner Cynthia and her daughter very hands-on, and attention to detail evident. Dining area very clean. Fresh linen & candles a lovely touch. A little pricey but worth the experience. Live music on the buffet night wasn't to my taste, but I'm sure some people liked it.

“What is going wrong with this place?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

I've been to Kariwak three times over the past 2 years. On each occasion the service gets steadily worse. The last visit was just that, the last ever. The food may be lovely, but I can't be bothered paying over the odds to be treated as a nuisance.

On this last visit, we arrived, a group of six, and were promptly greeted and shown to a table, all was smiles. A good start. We ordered some drinks. Things were a little slow, but this is Tobago: slightly slow service is fine. Glacial and frosty is something else.

After 45 minutes there was no sign of the drinks. After conferring (becuase you don't want to make a fuss) we agreed that my wife would gently approach the bar and see how things were going. Well, they weren't going anywhere. Somehow the drinks order had been forgotten, even though it was a fairly quiet afternoon and the staff didn't seem to be overworked. No matter, the drinks order was reiterated and we awaited those interesting fruit concoctions that are a feature of the Kariwak. When a few minutes later half the order arrived with the wrong drinks, we kept our cool and patiently clarified what we wanted. Another attempt, another fail. At this point my little 6-year old daughter is wondering why she isn't allowed anything to drink. She took it very well, but it was strange, to say the least.

After a cool hour, the food came out. Except of course for my daughter's order. Maybe they just didn't like the look of her. So they rush out a bit later with the wrong item for the little girl. At this point the key is just to get her fed and get out of there. So we wolf our orders and ask for a bill. At first, I can't quite understand the sums. You see, I had a salad with a bit of goat'ls cheese on it. Pretty tasty and a mere snip at US$13. For what, exactly? A nice touch was that the 10% service charge was added on so you didn't have to think about it.

Such a shame to see one of the last decent places in Tobago go the same way as all the others...

Thank you for your review. I note with disappointment, the issue of slow service, which is not our acceptable mode of operation and I do apologise. This issue has been addressed with our wait and bar staff to ensure the promptness in service standards is not compromised in the future. At Kariwak, we strive to maintain the highest standards and I assure that customer satisfaction is maintained.
