We have just returned from the mermaid hotel in Tobago. The owners, and staff were friendly and polite at all times and couldnt do enough for you. The all inclusive food and drinks were first class. The beaches are also excellent.. You must get yourself down to pidgeon point beach and do the boat trip. This beach is about a 20 minute slow stroll away or about £3 in a taxi.
So if you are going to tobago and want the best ,forget the tropokist or turtle beach and get yourself to the Mermaid hotel.

Keith & Gill.

The Mermaid is a smallish hotel about 5 minutes walk from the airport and 5 minutes from Store bay Beach. However just because its not sea front don't let it put you off, the walk is lovely and you can not hear the airport at all. We also managed to walk to Pigeon Point in about 15 minutes, again a lovely walk, but there are cabs and from Pigeon point to the Hotel its about £3.00 for a cab.
The hotel is spacious , rooms are large and clean and kept at a very high standard. The staff are friendly and go beyond the call of duty to make your stay enjoyable. Stacy the manager and her girls are always available and nothing is too much trouble.
The owners Penny and Gerald although not always there are amazing, so friendly and funny and again are very willing to accommodate you in anyway they can.
If you were wondering whether or not to go all inclusive, the food there is out of this world and worth every penny, always fresh and the flying fish is to die for.
In fact we could find no fault with this hotel at all, we had the holiday of a lifetime in Tobago and part of that wonderful experience was down to the Mermaid.
Even if you decide not to stay here then you must go to the restaurant for the food!
I saw many other hotels on the Island during my stay and i have to say this was by far the cleanest and nicest one there, and i would recommend it to everyone.
I hope to go back to Tobago and will be booking in here straight away.
If you want a friendly, clean, spacious, quite hotel then the Mermaid is for you.

This is a basic 2 star hotel. It is clean and well maintained. The property is about 1 year old. The bathrooms were clean and towels were changed daily. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, though the menu is limited. The staff is friendly and will make recommendations for tours, restaurants, etc. Tobago is small and easy to navigate around, but be mindful that the roads are narrow and there are many blind turns. We rented a car while we were there which made getting around much easier. Our only gripe is that when we were checking out, we found out that the local calls that we were making from our room were not free after we specifically asked about the cost and were told there was no charge. This was never disclosed. Overall, a very basic hotel that is well maintained.

My partner and I stayed at the Mermaid Hotel in Tobago and were delighted with our stay. The hotel has 19 rooms, a swimming pool and is in a very quiet area albeit near the airport (very few flights a day, don't compare to Heathrow !). The rooms were clean and the staff extremely friendly. The hotel is a 15 minutes walk from a beach and half an hour walk from Pigeon point which is a great beach with all facilities. The hotel has a restaurant and is very near a hotel called the Toucan Inn & Bonkers which has a great bar and a very welcoming Manager. Several restaurants are walking distance. We both loved it and have returned enchanted by the island and its people (Mr B is based in the Toucan Inn and takes you wherever you want to go, his motto -Don't worry is still with us). We have returned completely chilled. No 5 star accommodation on this island but very genuine, lovely and welcoming people. We hired a jeep and found a little beach in Castara where the food was delicious. But having a nice, quiet and clean place to return to in the evening made the holiday very enjoyable.

The weather was good, temperatures in the high 70’s, the staff at the Mermaid were brilliant, especially Ramsey and Stacey, and Store Bay beach is beautiful – safe and good for swimming and snorkelling. There are places to eat and drink by the beach. There’s nothing quite like a Carib beer and a plate of crab n dumpling at lunchtime to get you into the chilled out Caribbean spirit. We wish we had booked two weeks!

The Mermaid is a very well run hotel, the rooms are bright and comfortable and the staff really make you feel at home. We booked with Next Escape who offered us half board but we chose bed and breakfast. But as we ate at the hotel’s own restaurant most nights, perhaps half board would have been better. Ziggy’s Kitchen seems to be popular with both the visitors and locals in the area (a good sign) and is on the roof with an open terrace and views over the floodlit swimming pool. Fantastic home cooked food.

This was our first trip to the Caribbean. We would definitely go back to Tobago and the Mermaid, and Ramsey has promised to take us on a fishing trip. But now we have the bug, we’d quite like to try another island next year, maybe Grenada.
