“The view saves it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Has no soul. Grubby, unkept and unloved. Unhelpful and unfriendly staff. Ordered flowers did not arrive...just a peak into our experience, but waking to the varying view of the skyline and the Clyde saw us forgetting all of this. In a nut shell, a prestigious golf club with rooms.

Didnt actually get to stay as we checked out due to the strong stench of sewage in our room ! Having now looked at some other reviews here I see that we are not the first guests to have had this experience in their room! Hotel was full so couldnt be moved to another room , we were given a refund but no help was offered to find us another hotel. The one star here is for fulfilling my request for a king size bed. Spa area very run down and could do with a clean, dont expect a relaxing atmosphere as pool was full of kids some left unsupervised by parents to use the pool like a fun park. Cant comment on food as glad we never got to eat as reception suggested the odour could be coming from the vent from the kitchen !

On the way up to the hotel I was expecting some thing grand, but was disappointed as it looked very untidy and unkempt, which was a shame as the views were really nice, this was then continued into the reception area, very foreboding, empty looking and unfriendly.

The room as nice, but the bathroom ceiling was covered in mould and in general it was in need of some attention.

Evening meal was alright but ended up through a recommendation to go to the Hungry Monk.

Overall it was not what I was expecting and will not be going back there again, likewise I would not recommend it.

Room Tip: Go to the Hungry Monk for meals, the food, service and price are fantastic

Wonderful position and views but you're really just in a golf club. Been in better 3star hotels. Our room though spacious was stoory with stained valance and grubby lampshades, en suite very basic though good hot water. White wine was warm in the bar and at dinner, had to ask for cutlery, can we have butter for our toast (which was cold). Lovely pool but area around it is shabby, water cooler broke. Overall lacking in all but average hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Stayed at the hotel for two nights at the start of November with my wife. We paid a total price of £99 for bed and breakfast so can't complain about the price. The Hotel claims to be 4 star but I would say its 3 star + as some areas need a little bid of an upgrade. The room was a good size and the décor was OK. We had a double bed, which was too soft for me as I prefer a hard bed, did notice some of the rooms appeared to have a king size bed and you should ask about this when you book. The breakfast was good. If you want a cooked breakfast it is served to you. You can help yourself to cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc if you prefer. We did not use the restaurant for lunch or dinner as we preferred to eat out. The pool at the hotel is a good size and heated. In the pool area you also have a steam room and sauna. You collect your towel on the way into the pool. The hotel has its own golf course and beautiful walks and views over the Clyde. This hotel is not for you if you don't drive or have mobility problems. The layout is a bid of a rabbit warren and does not have any lifts (our room was on the 4th floor if you went directly from reception or the 2nd if you used the side door). You can walk into the village but it takes a good 15 mins to get there and double that to get back as it is all uphill. The village does have a train stations and a return ticket to Glasgow was only £5.60. Suggest you leave your car at the station or get a taxi £4.00 each way. I would recommend the hotel if you are looking for a golf break or a cheap base to explore the West of Scotland.

Room Tip: Ask for room in leisure block on same level as starter box.

First impressions once you've got to the top of the drive are good - the old house looks great!

Reception is slightly strange - just a desk in a brightly carpeted room - more could be made of this area! However the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are of a good size, I had one above reception, fantastic huge windows and lots of space. The bed was comfortable and I had a great night's sleep.

One thing to be aware of is that the hotel is built up a hillside and so getting from reception to the restaurant could be daunting as there are many stairs to climb. Perhaps something to avoid if you're not good with stairs.

Once you've reached the top however it's worth it - the hotel has a decent bar and restaurant. We had a great dinner there in the evening and breakfast was excellent.

Although the hotel could do with a few modern/luxury touches, the views over the river are almost worth it on their own!

Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, my room was a family room in the original part of the hotel. It was a bit tired. The base of the bed was in shreds and the mattrass was well used and not very comfortable. The pillows were deflated and only 2 per bed. I phoned the reception at 8 pm for an extra pillow and im still waiting for it.
Half of the roof in the bathroom was black with mould!!!!
The views are amazing, the staff were brilliant, the breakfast was much better on the 2nd day. On the 1st day the porridge was burnt and it was still served.
My mams room was in the refurbished side, it was well appointed, everything was fresh....no complaints about the room but my mam is disabled and there are no lifts and there is a lot of corridors and stairs.
We had a few treatments at the spa and the girls were awesome, massages were brill.
If they keep on refurbishing the rooms I would highly recommend this hotel
