Stayed here in mid-April for five nights for my Honeymoon and I couldn't have imagined it being any more perfect (weather, location and experience). When we arrived at the airport we were picked up by arranged transport through the lodge. On the ride to the lodge, the driver gave us tons of information about Queenstown and surrounding areas and even went out of the way to take us to a scenic overlook of the city for photos. When we arrived we were greeted directly by the staff and taken on a tour of the facility while the porters settled our bags in our room. They told us about all of the activities they typically arrange for their guests and informed us of the prices of all of those activities.
Pre-dinner cocktails was always a treat with the staff always willing to make suggestions of drinks and even making some up on the fly and preparing them deliciously. Dinners (6 or 7 courses) were also great. Every night was something fantastically different from the night before. Breakfast was fairly typical with a continental style spread available as well as some menu options. I also got the feeling that the chef was willing to go off menu for any special requests. Lunch was the only meal that wasn't included in the tariff. While it was always tasty, it's also somewhat pricey but I think the offset of the dinner (which would easily be a minimum of USD$100 a head at a restaraunt) made it well worth the cost, to include the picnic they packed for us!
Every member of the staff that we met (the only ones not met, or even SEEN even though the place was spotless, was housekeeping) was friendly, talkative and well informed about any of your scheduled activities. They felt like a close-knit family that was striving to make you feel as taken care of as possible. For example, when my wife and I went skydiving, they knew how nervous my wife was and they went so far as to greet us upon landing on the lawn (yes, on the lawn) of Blanket Bay with two glasses of champagne!
I would suggest Blanket Bay to anyone looking for a quiet (only four other couples, only two the night before we left) scenic, peaceful spot where all you have to do is suggest something to the staff and it happens. We will definantly be doing an aniversary at Blanket Bay.
