“Fantastic holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

Returned yesterday after a fabulous week's skiing. The hotel is well situated and is only a short walk to the ski lifts. Yes, it is a short uphill walk back to the hotel; however as another poster pointed out, if you struggle to negotiate that you are probably not fit enough to ski! For the faint hearted there is a courtesy bus service which runs from 9-10 and returns from 4-5.
The Nordic Esports ski hire shop is very reasonable and the staff are friendly and helpful. We used the heated ski lockers at the back of the El Clos bar at the foot of the slopes.
The hotel facilities are excellent and the staff were courteous and attentive. There was an excellent selection of food and fresh fruit at every meal and we certainly had no complaints about the quality or quantity. The only bugbear was that the queue for the coffee machine at breakfast times was a bit frustrating.
Lluis, the bar manager was an absolute star and an all round lovely guy. He runs a great happy hour from 5-6 when drinks are 2-4-1. When you consider that the normal bar price for a pint of draught San Miguel was 2.75 euro, this must be the cheapest bar in Andorra. I can highly recommend the gin and tonic! We will definitely return to this hotel.
Tip: pre-book lift passes from ski Andorra. com. They offer a lunch package which gives you vouchers for lunch included in the price of the lift pass. Most of the Grandvalira outlets accepted them in exchange for the 10 euro menu meals. For a family of four, this is a real cost saving.

good location, clean and tidy hotel, with friendly staff. Stayed in a twin room, very small beds but very comfortable indeed. English TV too in the rooms. Food was a bit hit and miss, first day was rather poor, but next couple of days was great, and the new year gala dinner was amazing: lobsters, shrimp, crayfish, oysters, razorshell fish, the works. Ski bus stops just down hill from hotel, very convenient, and we hired our skis from Nordic ski where the hotel has a discount, right on the slope, with ski lockers to rent too, so no lugging skis up and down in awkward ski boots.

Good location, clean and comfortable bedrooms. Unfortunately let down by a few simple things such as;

No drying facilities in the ski locker, just a garage with lockable cages. Ski boots are wet all week unless you take them up to your room.

Poor food quality and selection, three examples of un cooked meat during the week. At least one resulted in mild food poisoning and a day of skiing missed.

Coffee machine !!!! On average 10-12 people queuing constantly every morning for any drink as the staff watch on. Prepare some coffee and orange juice in big jugs, it's not hard !!!

As for the staff they try hard to please but we couldn't help but laugh at their bizarre ways. Similarly local bar staff were slow and odd, don't be surprised to wait and wait some more even if you are the only one waiting to be served !!! Poor après ski in El Tarter.

Had a great holiday as the skiing was amazing and none of our group let little things like the above ruin our time. Would definitely go back but would stay in Soldeu instead.

Stayed her for a week at the end of feb 2013. Couldn't fault the hotel, really comfortable beds, pleasant staff and varied menu for the week. Breakfast choice was excellent, evening meals served between 8-10pm, self serve buffet. Preferred El Tarter to Soldeu as there was no queues in the morning and the chair, gondola up to the main hub was very close to the hotel. We hired a locker in the ski hire shop at the bottom of the slope to store our gear for the week. Worked out perfect, The hotel is on a hill but seriously, it's a 30 meter walk uphill o the hotel from the main road. If you're fit enough to ski this shouldn't inconvenience you. Absolutely loved Andorra. The conditions were amazing and the resorts are well linked by gondola and chair lifts. No nightlife in El Tarter so choose soldeu or Pas de la casa if this is important to you (showing my age!)
Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable, I was very surprised how comfortable the beds were, it was a struggle to get out of it most mornings.
We had a full length bath with shower over. Water pressure was strong in the shower, always a bonus. My only fault was there was insufficient wall hooks within our room to hang ski jackets etc to dry out and air. Very odd. Wardrobes had enough hangers, however a few hooks on the back of doors and around the room wouldn't go amiss.
Don't expect anything from the wifi service. The signal was very poor even right beside the router in reception and there's no wifi in rooms, they definitely need to upgrade the router. There's a pc in the main TV lounge, free to use but also painfully slow.
TV in bedroom room had the usual CNN, BBC world news and french/spanish channels found in most european hotels. Very typical of hotel TV, grainy picture and nothing to shout about. Download a movie or two to your laptop or tablet if you like a bit of evening movie to end the day.
I'd return again without question, Andorra has so much to offer for intermediate and beginner skiing and hotel del clos was a comfortable place to return to after a day on the slopes. Hotel Del Clos exceeded my expectations. Top Tip: If travelling on a package with Thomas cook (neilson), book your ski hire and lift pass in advance of your trip. We left it too late to reserve with neilson(7 days minimum notice required) and the price we paid on arrival was 40 Euros extra. We had ski hire from Nordic Sportss at the bottom of the main chairlift, you can't miss it, Boots and ski's were almost new and very comfortable. The staff were very helpfull. The best tip I had from a fellow tourist was to ski the rossinyoll piste, blue run heading towards canillo. Amazing!!

Stayed at this hotel Feb/Mar 2013. The rooms are clean and tidy, well equipped and warm. Its close enough to the Gondola and chair lifts. The staff are friendly and helpful.
But the downside is :
The food was served buffet style but always luke warm, never hot
The coffee machine has one speed, dead slow. So a long line of fed up people was the norm each morning.
The same for the toaster, one rotating style toaster for a hotel full of people? it meant a long wait for toast or not bothering. I suspect most people didnt bother.
The wifi is only available around the reception area, however it is way too slow when 15/20 are all trying to access it at once (once again resulting in deciding not to even bother with it)
These were small problems but after a week they really start to grate!
They are also very easily rectified!
I think i have seen a few of them crop up on previous reviews.

Our third stay at this hotel and we were well looked after again. The short from the ski slopes and gondola warms one up for the day's activities (although the uphill walk back can be a bit tiring!). There is, however, an option to use the Hotel transport to and from the Gondola station. We preferred to use the heated ski storage behind the Hotel Llop Gris, and suit our selves to timing. (That was also close enough to the free car park to make carrying skis back to car easy at the end of our stay). The food was plentiful and both breakfast and dinner are based on an all you can keep down buffet. The variety is generally good but this year, the potatoes nearly always came as chips with a change to croquets on one evening only. Dinner has a soup and/or salad first course followed by mains, deserts, cheese and fruit. Breakfast is continental/and or british full fry - mix and match to suit. Don't expect the food to be piping hot as the salads and cold dishes share the same bain marie so it is not heated. Beware the onion rings - on only one night were they onions - they are usually calamari! But there is usually another fish choice as well. We will go again.

We were moved to this hotel and luckily fell on our feet. The hotel is a short walk from the slopes so I cannot see why anyone could complain. The food was good with a reasonable choice all week apart from one day when they seem to run out of food for 30mins! We rented a locker at the Nordic (behind the cafe next to Nordic Ski Hire and bottom of the slopes) for 30euros instead of carrying our gear although you can use the free bus at fixed times. If you want to stay in El Tarter then this place or the Nordic is popular (same chain). Only criticism is that there was only one member of staff on during happy hour!! Otherwise would have got 5*!
